Mr. Beam was born March 10, 1959, in Brady, Texas. He was a former resident of Kingsport and has made his home in Bristol since August, 2000. He was an employee of Cooper Automotive in Surgoinsville, Tenn., and a member of the Gateway Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Hayes Beam. "Joe" Cunningham, 89, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tenn. He was born in St. Paul, Va., a son of the late Charles T. and Eva Culbertson Cunningham. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was with the first wave landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day, and received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, a Presidential Unit Citation, an ETO Service Award, three Battle Stars and an Arrowhead. He lived in Bristol since 1945 and was employed as an accountant for the Black Diamond Company. He was a member of the 29th Infantry Division Association, an original member of the Virginia 116th Infantry Company I, belonged to the American Legion, the VFW, the King Masonic Lodge 461 of Bristol, the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 39, where he was a past Commander and life member and was active with the Boy Scouts. He was a member of South Bristol United Methodist Church for more than 55 years, where he taught Junior Sunday School, was a choir member and served as layman, church steward and treasurer. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Caufield and Elizabeth Slagle; and a brother, Charles Cunningham. Survivors include his wife, Eva Hartsock Cunningham; a daughter, Iris Forrester of Abingdon; two sons, Joe Allen Cunningham and his wife, Kay, of Bristol and David Gregory Cunningham and his wife, Donna, of Midway, Tenn.; two brothers, Paul Cunningham of Virginia Beach and Douglas Cunningham of Jefferson, Ga.; one sister, Eva Jane King of Castlewood; five grandchildren, Lenora Miller, Christopher Cunningham, Angela Wilhoit, Brian Cunningham and Laura Forrester; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Simcox, Elizabeth Miller and Rylan Joseph Cunningham; friend and care giver, Rebecca West; and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church for 73 years. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Stiltner DEFIANCE, Ohio – Ada McClanahan Stiltner, 85 years of age, formerly of Buchanan County, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2004, following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Freelin and Ida McClanahan. She was a resident of Buchanan County several years prior to moving to Clyde, Ohio, in 1952, and then to Defiance in 1953, and was of the Christian faith. She was a former employee of General Motors and later she was employed by Campbell’s Soup Company, where she retired in 1975. She was well-respected by her co-workers and friends knew her as a Christian because she lived the life she professed. She was kind to others and loved God. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and a homemaker. Mrs. Stiltner was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Hibbert Stiltner in 1990. She is survived by three daughters, Gennabee and husband Donald Hill, Defiance, Hazel Smith, Defiance and Diana Cameron, Hendersonville, Tenn.; three sons, Charlie and wife Shirley Stiltner, Defiance, Phillip and wife JoAnn Stiltner, Greensprings, Ohio, and Dewey and wife Donna Stiltner, Berlin Heights, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Clyde (Kelsey) Looney, Grundy; three brothers, Dewey McClanahan, Grundy, John Burton McClanahan, Grundy and Claude McClanahan, Arkansas; a grandson she raised, John P. Smith; and her dear "like a daughter", Solonia Kathryn Church. Also, she is survived by 17 grandchildren; 25 great- grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was a daughter of the late Hiram and Addie Lane Moore, and was the widow of Leaton Vanwinkle, who passed away in 1970. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jack Vanwinkle; two sisters, Etta Mae Rogers and Dora Carter; five brothers, Johnny Moore, Carson Moore, Frank Moore, Sydney Moore and Walter Moore. White CHURCH HILL, Tenn. – Michael Edward White, 57, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Kimball, W.Va., he grew up in Swords Creek, Va., and attended Honaker High School, Honaker. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. White was wounded during his service in Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest White and Imogene Mabry White.
