Ball KINGSPORT – Gladys Marie (Casteel) Ball, age 61, went to be with her Lord, Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at her residence, with her family surrounding her, after a period of declining health. Gladys was born Jan. 21, 1943, in Blountville, and was the only daughter of the late William and Mary (Eaton) Casteel. Gladys has lived in the Kingsport area for 37 years. She was a member of Pilgrim’s Chapel Church and she worked as a nurse technician at the Indian Path Hospital. Four brothers preceded Gladys in death. Gladys is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Clyde S. Ball Sr.; two daughters, Angela Ball Dixon of Kingsport and Anita Ball Ferguson of Bristol Tennessee, and a son and daughter-in-law, Clyde Jr. and Tanya Ball of Kingsport. She is also survived by five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glen Casteel and his wife JoAnn of Blountville and Herbert Hickman and his wife Wilma of Bluff City, and a special son-in-law, Larry Speers. He was retired from the Virginia Highway Department, with 42 years of services. Cherry LENOIR CITY, N.C. – Phyllis (Phyl) Hashbarger Cherry, age 74, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2004, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Phyl was born in Bristol and was a graduate of Bristol Tennessee High School and The Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing, Chattanooga, Class of 1951. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Lenoir City, and served on several mission trips, along with her husband, Bill, including serving as Baptist Mission Service Corps volunteers in Indiana for a year and a half. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Oma Hashbarger of Bristol Tennessee. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, William E. A lifelong resident of the area, she was the oldest member of the Miller Creek Community Church. Margaret Neal Mrs. Margaret Lillian Neal died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, May 17, at Glade Valley Nursing Home, Walkersville. She was the wife of the late David Sherman Neal, who died in 1982. Born on Feb. 7, 1920, in Bedford County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Marvin Warren and Julia Isabella (Widener) Spriggs. Originally from Abingdon, the family moved to Gaithersburg in 1966. Margaret is survived by her devoted daughter, Sue Able of Frederick, Md.; her son, Ronald Neal and his wife Carolyn of Mt. Lorena Boyd O’Dell BRISTOL, Va. – Lorena Boyd O’Dell, age 93, of Grand Court, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2004, in the NHC Health Care of Bristol. Mrs. O’Dell was born on Sept. 26, 1910, in Bluff City, to the late Robert Andrew and Julia Ellen Green Boyd. She had lived all her life in the Bristol area, was a homemaker and a member of the Euclid Ave Baptist Church. Mrs. O’Dell was also a fifty-year charter member of the Weaver Pike Homemaker Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Parks O’Dell, one brother, Lawrence Boyd, and by one granddaughter, Julia Ann. Mrs. O’Dell is survived by two daughters, Joanne O. Stiltner BRISTOL, Tenn. – Katie Alene Monday Stiltner, age 82, of 138 Mapleview Drive, went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 20, 2004, at the Wellmont Hospice House. She was born Jan. 31, 1922, in Johnson City, a daughter of the late James Earnest and Ruth Weisgarber Monday, and was the last surviving member of her family. Mrs. Stiltner had worked as a substitute teacher, nurse’s aide and bookkeeper before her retirement. She had made her home in Breaks, Va., before moving to Bristol in 1979. Mrs. Stiltner was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Kelsie Stiltner, their precious son, Kelsie G. Stiltner, and grandson, Keith Stiltner. Mrs. Stiltner was a member of Island Road Freewill Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Heaven received an angel today.
