Campbell, age 81, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2004, in Grace Healthcare of Abingdon, after a long illness. He was born in Abingdon, the son of the late D.J. and Kate Gray Campbell. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. He was a member of VFW Post 1994 and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles G. Campbell. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Edna Garrett Campbell; one son, David Wayne Campbell and wife Becky, Lebanon; one daughter, Ann Katherine Canipe and husband Mike, Acworth, Ga.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Canipe and Kelly Canipe, Acworth; two sisters, Margaret McIntyre and husband Bill and Nancy Morefield, all of Abingdon; sister-in-law, Marie Campbell, Bristol Virginia; four nephews and two nieces. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, June 6, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, with Dr. Don L. Paxton, Rev. John Stapleton and Rev. Jim Fuller officiating. Entombment will follow the service. Military honors will be conducted at the mausoleum by the Highlands Veterans Honor Color Guard. Rosie Mae Cuddy MEADOWVIEW – Mrs. Rosie Mae Wallace Cuddy, age 69, went to Heaven Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Cuddy was a native of Ashe County, N.C., and moved to Washington County, Va., as a small child. She was a member of the Washington Springs United Methodist Church and attended the Blackwell Chapel Union Church. She was graduate of Glade Spring High School and was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her husband, Bobby Cuddy, Meadowview; four sons and theirs wives, Tommy and Dina Cuddy, Roy, Utah, Rick and Debbie Cuddy, Meadowview, David and Stephanie Cuddy, Fairlawn, Va., and Bill and Kim Cuddy (Bill is stationed with the U.S. Marines in Iraq); two brothers and their wives, Ted and Patsy Wallace and Lonnie and Christine Wallace, all of Glade Spring; sister-in-law, Irene Wallace, Abingdon; brother-in-law, Bill Dodge, Waynesboro, Va.; grandchildren, Angie Cuddy, Bob Cuddy, Andy Cuddy, Katie Cuddy and Mikala Cuddy, and several nieces and nephews. McConnell BIG STONE GAP – Bonnie Jean McConnell, 80, died June 4, 2004, in Port St. Lucie, Fla., after a short illness. She was born in Russellville, Tenn., and lived in Exeter, Va., for many years. She has been a resident of Big Stone Gap since the early ’60s. She was a beautician and also had worked as a telephone operator for Westmoreland Coal Company. She was active in church and was in the Order of the Eastern Star 157 of Big Stone Gap for many years. She was preceded in death by husbands, Claude William Qualls and Conley S. Barker, her father, William Minnis Potter, mother, Clara Belle Potter, sister, Pauline Lowe, and brother, William M. Potter Jr. Surviving are her husband, Lloyd McConnell; her daughters, Glenda Hampton and son-in-law, Glenn, of Millboro, Va., and Patricia Gillenwater of Oxford, Miss.; grandchildren, Mark and Keith Hampton and Ed and Lindsay Gillenwater; great- grandchildren, Kristen Smith, Erica and Joseph Hampton and Will Collier; and one great-great-grandson, Darien Smith; sisters, Lois Winner, Pennsylvania, and Betty Green, Arkansas. She was born in Roanoke, a daughter of the late Joseph Peter and Frances Carr Henebry, and the widow of Fortunato Frank Molteni. She was a graduate of St. Joseph College in Maryland. She lived in Big Island, Va., and Oak Ridge, Tenn., before moving to Bristol in 1948, when she and her husband purchased D.B. Ryland and Company Jewelers. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and the Friendship Club of the church. She is survived by her son, Frank H. Molteni and his wife Mary of Bristol Virginia; a granddaughter, Meredith Molteni of Richmond; a grandson, Frank H. "Jay" Molteni Jr. and his wife Sandy of Charlotte, N.C.; a great-grandson, Garrett Molteni of Charlotte, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6 o’clock Sunday evening, June 6, 2004, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, with the funeral mass to follow at 6 o’clock. Rev. Timothy E. James Wade Moretz II James Wade Moretz II, 51, died at home on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a graduate of East High School, attended ETSU and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1999. At the time of his death, he was employed at AAI in North Charleston, S.C. He is survived by one son, Marcus C. Moretz of Summerville, S.C.; two daughters, Cheri and Brian Greene of Summerville and Diane and Tim Rhodes of Summerville; three grandchildren, Austin Greene and Matthew and Ryan Rhodes; spouse, Martha Moretz of Summerville; his parents, Wade and Ann (Phipps) Moretz Sr.; two brothers, Tim Moretz and Todd Moretz of Powell, Tenn.; one sister and brother- in-law, Susan and Thomas Dillon of Bristol Virginia. She was retired from Johnston Memorial Hospital, where she worked as a nurses assistant. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy D. Sr. and wife Joyce Ratcliffe Widener of Abingdon and Harry M.
