Bonham CHILHOWIE – Gene Kelly Bonham, 71, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Howard and Mary Franc Bonham. Mr. Bonham owned and operated Bonham Oil Company in Glade Spring for over 40 years before his retirement in 2003. He also enjoyed many years on his family farm in Smyth County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a past president of the Chilhowie Lions Club and a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jean B. Bonham; one son, William J. Bonham, Richmond; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Dan Foster, Monterey, Va.; two grandchildren, Scott and Mariam Foster; one sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Bob Sullivan, Fredericksburg, Va.; one niece, Susan Sullivan; one nephew, Patrick Sullivan, and one special friend of the family, James Vannoy, Glade Spring. Fred Frank Cox BRISTOL, Tenn. – Fred Frank Cox, 71, of 634 5th St., died on June 6, 2004, at his residence. Mr. Cox was born July 5, 1932, in Bluff City, to the late Joe and Nell Cox. He lived in the Bristol area all his life, where he worked in glasswork for 35 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War, where he earned the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Cox, and grandson, Raymie Hilliard. Billy Paul Holbrook DANTE, Va. – Billy Paul Holbrook, 73, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon. He was born in Russell County, Va., son of the late Bert L. and Ethel Holley Holbrook. He was a retired miner and member of U.M.W.A. Local 1256 and was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Holbrook. He was born in Abingdon to the late Earl G. and Nannie McDaniel Pennington. He was employed with Brunswick, Marion Composites and General Dynamics for over 37 dedicated years, where he supervised the test range and worked as a senior engineer. Mr. Pennington will be forever remembered as a very devoted and loving husband and wonderful father. He was loved and will be missed by all that knew him.
