She was a member of the Winder Church of God, Winder, and was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Barrett, two sons, Ronald Baber and Stephen Baber, five brothers and a sister. Surviving are five sons, George J. Baber of Bushnell, Neb., Bishop Kyle L. Baber of Winder, Joseph C. Baber of Lanette, Ala., Clinton Jesse Baber of Commerce, Ga., and Mike Baber of Norton; two daughters, Nancy E. Mummert of East Berlin, Pa., and Shelby Winebarger of Winder; a stepson, Roy Barrett of Cedar Bluff; a stepdaughter, Etta Sue Millsaps of Burke, Va.; three sisters, Juanita Mutter of Coeburn, Zelma Adams of Chesapeake, Va., and Frankie Lunde of Hertford, N.C.; 29 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel, Coeburn, with Bishop Kyle L. Baber officiating. He was a lifelong resident of Damascus. He was the son of Maggie Lee Brown and the late Charles Quincey Brown. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olivene Thomas Brown. Mr. Brown was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean conflict. A former member of Damascus Fire Department, he enjoyed a lifelong occupation of livestock dealing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Charles was a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church. In addition to his mother, he is also survived by one daughter, Cindy Blevins and her husband Rock of Damascus; one son, Mark Brown of Abingdon; one brother, Walter Q. Brown of Damascus; three grandchildren, Brett Blevins, Hayley Brown and Clay Brown, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Damascus United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jane Ayers officiating. Eller, age 79, of 611 Wilcox Road, went to be with his Lord and family Sunday, June 6, 2004, at his residence, following a lengthy illness. He was a native of Shady Valley, Tenn., and was born Jan.18, 1925, to the late Floyd O. (Oscar) and Jane Nancy Stanley Eller. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Icenhour Eller, who passed away in April of 2003, also by two brothers, Carl "Speedy" Eller and Conley Eller, two half-brothers, Vernia Manuel and Paul Eller, and a grandson, Shannon Proffitt. He was retired from Raython and was a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a Army veteran, having served in World War II. He loved to fish, make "whorleys" for his friends and grandchildren. Survivors: three daughters, Nancy Proffitt of Mountain City, Shirley Icenhour of Bristol Tennessee and Carolyn Eller of Elkton, Md.; two sisters, Maudeina Moore of Lynchburg and June Eller of Mountain City; five grandchildren, Melissa Osborne, Scarlett Lucas, Patricia Mills, Marsha Icenhour and Ethen Proffitt; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Combs Funeral Service in Lebanon is serving the family of Mr. Fields. Bert Griffin Jr. Bert "B.L." Griffin Jr. died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Independence Regional Health Center, Independence, Mo. B.L. Griffin was born in Abingdon on May 29, 1929. He was raised in Bristol Tennessee, where he attended grade school and high school. Mr. Griffin served four years of active duty with the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. He graduated from East Tennessee State University and had been a salesman for the Morton Norwich Co. His survivors include three sons, Michael Griffin and Mark Griffin, both of Franklin, Tenn., and Dan Griffin of Grain Valley, Mo.; a sister, Dorothy Anthony of Bristol Tennessee, and five grandchildren. Born May 6, 1949, in Russell County, a daughter of the late Tivis Musick and the late Gracie Musick, she was a graduate of Cleveland High School. She was of the Baptist faith and a resident of the Finney community. She was a lover of animals, especially her Pomeranian, Benji. Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Robert Grizzle, and three half- sisters, Giva and husband Charles Russell, Elizabethton, Deloras Garrett, Johnson City, and Lois and husband Joe Scyphers, Abingdon. He was born on May 24, 1939, in Lex, W.Va., to the late Floyd Milton and Stella Mae Bishop Lowery. Mr. Lowery moved to the Bristol area in 1982, coming from War, W.Va. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the Charity Pentecostal Tabernacle and avid hunter, fisher, and loved evangelizing. Mr. Lowery was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Chuck Robinson, and by two brothers-in-law, Carmon Gene Sparks Sr. and Charles Hicks. Mr. Lowery is survived by his wife of 45 years, Shirley D.
