Denton Sr., age 85, died on Saturday, June 12, 2004, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tenn. He was born in Montgomery City, Mo., but lived most of his life in Bristol Tennessee. He was the son of the late Earl and Maude Denton. Mr. Denton retired from Capitol Insulation and was a World War II Army veteran. He was an active member and past deacon of the Central Holston Christian Church. He devoted 50 years as trustee of the Shipley Cemetery Association. He was a supporter of the Hickory Tree Fire Department, a past member of the South Holston Ruritan Club and one of the founders of the South Holston Little League. Mr. Denton was an avid woodworker after his retirement. Many of his woodworking pieces have brought much happiness and fond memories with people near and far. He was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Kenneth E. Gentry, and one granddaughter, Angela Gentry Goins. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hazel Shipley Denton; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Edward (Eddie) and Levon Denton and Henry and Pam Denton, Bristol Tennessee; two daughters, Sandra Gentry, Bristol Tennessee, and Donita Denton, Johnson City; seven grandchildren, Jackie Wilson, Brett Denton, Teresa White, Marty Denton, Kevin Denton, Brandi Smith and Sandi Denton; five great-granddaughters, Laken Gentry, Katelyn Morrell, Grayson White and Taylor and Skylar Wilson, and one great-grandson, Austin Smith. Tommy Louis Graves BRISTOL, Va. – Tommy Louis Graves, 52, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Johnson City, a son of the late Christopher Cole and Ruth Copeny. Tommy worked for the Job Corps in Montana during the 1960s. He attended Langston High School in Johnson City and moved to the Bristol area in the early ’70s. Tommy was a member of Emmanual Baptist Church. He was also affectionately known as "Old Folks" and loved to fish and paint. Lena Cole McDonald ROARING GAP, N.C. – Mrs. Lena Cole McDonald, age 62, of 820 Country Club Road, High Meadows Estates, died Saturday morning, June 12, 2004, at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Cole of Jewel Ridge, Va., and Thelma Vance Dean of Paintsville, Ky., and two brothers, Josh Cole and Henry Cole, both of Paintsville, also preceded her in death. Lena was born in Buchanan County, Va., on March 25, 1942. In 1959, she married B.W. McDonald. Lena graduated from Whitewood High School in 1960. She worked at the post office for 10 years as post master. In 1972, she and her family relocated from Whitewood to Paintsville. In the early ’80s, she was a co-owner of the Bath and Linen Closet in Prestonsburg, Ky. Her hobbies included golfing, gardening, cooking and entertaining. But her real passion was her family, who she loved with all her heart. She is survived by five children, Tim McDonald, Tammy Williams, Greg McDonald, Greta Meek and Byrd McDonald; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Carter Cole of San Francisco, and a host of family and friends also survive. Roy Lee Norman CEDAR BLUFF – Mr. Roy Lee Norman, age 72, of the Baptist Valley section, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004, in a Richlands hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Cedar Bluff and was a son of the late Guy and Lena Brown Norman, both Tazewell County, Va., natives. He was raised in the Cedar Bluff area, was a 1951 graduate of Richlands High School, and, after proudly serving his country during the Korean War as a first lieutenant in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C., returned to Tazewell County, where he was a respected residential contractor for many years. He was a member of the Cedar Bluff Lodge 260 A.F. & A.M. for almost 50 years, a member of the Cedar Bluff Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 104 of Richlands. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence Guy "Norm" Norman, a sister, Anna Maude Ray, and a brother, James E. Norman. She was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County and a member of Blountville Christian Church. She was a retired medical secretary from Bristol Regional Medical Center, after many years of service. Mrs. Weaver was the daughter of the late Ada (Large) and McCoy Blackburn. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ernest D. Weaver, and two brothers, Ray Blackburn and Clarence Blackburn. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lou Weaver of Blountville; two sons, J. Marlin Weaver, of Blountville and Ernest "Mac" Weaver and his wife Dianna of Bristol Tennessee; two grandchildren, Chad Weaver of Nashville and Matt Weaver and his wife Regina of Blountville; a special step-great-granddaughter, Kaylee Smiley; a special sister-in-law, Louise Shoemaker, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, at the graveside in East Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, with Rev. Dwight Shaffer and Mr. Leland Houser, minister, officiating. Entombment will follow. There will be no formal visitation, however, friends may call or visit the home of Mary Lou and Marlin Weaver at any time. Ernest White Jr. EVANS, Ga. – Ernest White Jr., sergeant first class, (retired), slipped into the arms of Jesus on June 13, 2004. He was the beloved husband of Erma Rankin White; father of Teresa White Pruitt and Jeffrey White; grandfather of Lindsey Pruitt, Tanner White, Blake White, Justin Pruitt and Jeremy Pruitt. He is also survived by three sisters, Patsy Houser of Blountville, Joyce Dakin and Dorothy Boling of Bristol Virginia. He was born in Bristol Virginia to Ernest and Nellie Skeens White. Ernest was a retired Army veteran, with 20 years active duty. He served two tours in Vietnam, three tours in Europe and several areas in the United States. Ernest received two Bronze Stars for his bravery in Vietnam. He has resided in Evans for 27 years. He was the retired owner of White’s Lawns, a member of Martinez United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men and the Master’s Sunday School Class. He loved God, his family and his country.
