He was a U.S. Army veteran, of the Church of God faith, self-employed mechanic of R & B Garage and an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing and hunting. Tammy Jean Cox Yates OAKWOOD, Va. – Tammy Jean Cox Yates, 43 years of age, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2004, on Garden Creek Road, near Oakwood. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of Sandra Winchester Cox of Vansant, Va., and the late Tivis Cox. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was employed as a store clerk. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Yates is survived by her husband, Elmer Franklin Yates of Oakwood; her mother, Sandra Winchester Cox of Vansant. She is survived by three sons, Jeff Cox, Oakwood, Dustin Yates, Oakwood and Rusty Yates, Oakwood; maternal grandmother, Lottie Winchester, akwood; two sisters, Debbie Keen, Grundy and Rita Cox, Vansant; one brother, Timothy Cox, Vansant; and one granddaughter, Marissa "Tiny" Cox, Oakwood. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Cox; paternal grandparents, Druie and Mary Cox; and maternal grandfather, Frank Winchester.
