She was born in Surgoinsville but had lived the majority of her life in Rogersville. She was a member of Riverview Baptist Church in Blountville. Lori Morgan Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, George Morgan, her parents, William Samuel Cole and Flora Ward Cole, and her sisters, Nola Castle, Ruby Odell Castle and Rosa Derrick. She is survived by several nephews and nieces and great-nephews and great- nieces. Shirley Lee Chappell BLOUNTVILLE – Shirley Lee Chappell, 72, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Sullivan County, Tenn., a daughter of the late John W. and Nora C. Roberts Whiteman and was the widow of Benny Chappell, who passed away in November 2003. She was also preceded in death by a special friend, Fred Harlan. She graduated as valedictorian of her class at Blountville High School in 1949. She was employed by the Sullivan County Library for the past 19 years. Shirley was instrumental in the establishment of the Genealogy Room at the Blountville Library and was an avid researcher of family histories. Her extensive knowledge of the region will be an irreplaceable asset to the library. She was a member of Bellemont Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Tolliver and husband Earl of Bristol Tennessee and Sharon Lauderbaugh and husband John D. "Skip" of Jacksonville, Fla.; her son, John Mark Chappell and wife Sue of Blountville; six grandsons, Benjamin Tolliver, T.J. and Cody Lauderbaugh, Jonathan and Jared Chappell and Wesley Smeltzer; her brother, Harold Whiteman of Blountville; special friends, Peggy Harlan, Blountville, and Ray and Virginia Grant of Pickens, S.C., and several nieces and nephews. Deel, age 43, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Heritage Hall in Grundy, where he was a resident since 1991. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of Earl and June Looney Deel of Vansant. He was a member of Looney’s Methodist Church and an avid fan and collector of Elvis Presley. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George W. and Missouri Deel, and maternal grandparents, Bill and Ollie Looney. Hazel Hagy Hayter ABINGDON – Hazel Hagy Hayter, 94, passed away at her home on June 23, 2004, after a brief illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, Va. At her death, Mrs. Hayter was the oldest living member of Carvosso United Methodist Church, where she had served in many positions. She taught Sunday School for many years, had served as pianist, was an active member in the church choir and the United Methodist Women. She was the daughter of the late Charles A. Hagy and the late Daisy Davis Hagy. She was the widow of Ralph E. Hayter. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Thornley, Windsor, Everette and Kermit. Survivors include two foster daughters, Helen H. James and husband Dr. Hal James of Memphis and Marva Alder of West Hartford, Conn.; two sisters, Beryle H. Miller and husband Douglas Miller of Bristol Virginia and Barbara H. Honaker ALEXANDRIA, Va. – William (Billy) L. Honaker died June 22, 2004, at his home. Billy was a native of Russell County, Va., and a graduate of Temple Hill High School. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and retired as a salesperson in 1994. Stamper, age 73, passed away Tuesday morning, June 22, 2004, at his home. Mr. Stamper had resided in Kingsport for the majority of his life. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Stamper worked for the Mead Corporation and later went into sales with the Lindenmeyr Company. After retirement, he worked for several years as a greeter at the Stone Drive Wal-Mart store. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Stamper loved to cook for everyone. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing blackjack. Mr. Stamper always said that he was the luckiest Papaw ever. His parents, Chester Stamper and Elsie Stamper Baugh, one daughter, Suzanne Stamper, and one brother, Chester Stamper Jr., preceded Mr. Stamper in death.
