Burnett BRISTOL, Va. – Funeral service for Roberta Alice Burnett will be held Monday, June 28, 2004, at 8 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Todd Crusenberry and Rev. Dan Birchfield officiating. Music will be provided by Jack Willis. Graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Polly Sue Gregory ABINGDON – Ms. Polly Sue Gregory, age 73, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born in Smyth County, but had lived most of her life in Washington County, Va. She was preceded in death by four brothers, John Rhea, Jimmy Rhea, Fraley Rhea and Tommy Rhea. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James L. Gregory; five daughters, Arlene Gregory Rust and fiancé Derek Stevenson of Abingdon, JoeAnne Davis and husband Thomas of Meadowview, Suzan Greer and husband Elmer of Abingdon, Mary Gregory of Kingsport and Carol Gregory of Abingdon; three sons, Thomas Gregory and wife Sue of Cabot, Ark., William Gregory and wife Dencey of Abingdon and Graham Gregory Sr. and wife Kathy of Glade Spring; three brothers, Donald Rhea, Ronald Rhea and Millard Rhea, all of Saltville; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Jackson RICHLANDS – Mr. Larry W. Jackson, age 55, passed away Friday, June 25, 2004, at the home of his son, Derrick Jackson, in King, N.C., following a lengthy illness. He was born in Richlands and was a son of the late Colonel Floyd and Oakley Hale Jackson, both Richlands natives. He was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area, a 1968 graduate of Richlands High School and was of the Pentecostal faith. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Sandra K. Jackson; one daughter, Mrs. Sherry Jackson Graf of Richlands; one son, Mr. Derrick W. Jackson and wife Heather of King; one sister, Mrs. Brenda "Susie" Hampton and husband Glenn of Pounding Mill, Va.; four granddaughters, Laura Graf, Kayla Graf, Sydney Jackson and Erynn Jackson. Funeral services for Mr. Larry Wayne Jackson will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, with Rev. Dannie Short and Rev. Rick Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. James H. McVey, Dr. M.V. Richard Cline Kinzie MARION – Richard Cline Kinzie, age 90, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, June 27, 2004. He was born on June 10, 1914, and was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters and his parents, Rev. L.N. Kinzie and Mary Fellers Kinzie. He attended Royal Oak Presbyterian Church in Marion. Survivors include wife, Rosa Wagoner Kinzie; son, Richard C. Kinzie Jr.; daughter, Barbara Susan Kinzie; grandchildren, Rebecca Susan Kinzie, Stafford Johnson, Edward Charles, Catherine Spencer Kinzie, Sharon K. and Kevin Redd; great-grandchildren, Carrie Johnson, Sarah Johnson and Christopher Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins also survive. Cora Lee Perdue MAVISDALE, Va. – Mrs. Cora Lee Perdue, age 90, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2004, at her residence following a lengthy illness. Born in West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Viola Hamilton Lambert. She was a member of the Keen Mountain Free Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Charles Filmore Perdue, three sisters, five brothers, a granddaughter and a great-grandson. She is survived by two sons, Donald Gene Perdue and wife Irma of Manassas, Va., and Roger Lee Perdue and wife Betty of Alexandria, Va.; three daughters, Mrs. Eileen Fleming and husband Maynard of Manassas, Mrs. Charlotte Rowe and husband James of Manassas and Mrs. Peggy Charles and husband Willy of Oakwood, Va.; one brother, Arthur Lambert of Beckley, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; her church family and a host of friends also survive. Johnson Powers, 95, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2004. Owens Funeral Service, Lebanon, is in charge of arrangements. Frank B. Sands COEBURN – Frank B. Sands, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 26, 2004. A lifelong resident of Coeburn, he was born Aug. 4, 1922, the son of the late Floyd and Mary Smith Sands, formerly of Pulaski County. He served in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer escort and the U.S.S. Weber. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. He was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theatre, European-African Theatre, Middle East Theatre, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre with Star, Phillipine Liberation and Good Conduct Medals. He was a retired employee of the Pittston Coal Company. Mr. Sands attended Mary’s Chapel Church. He had served as Sunday School superintendent and taught in the teens’ class. He was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a member of Coeburn Masonic Lodge 97 A.F. & A.M. and Coeburn Royal Arch Chapter 79. He served as master of the Masonic Lodge in 1957, District Deputy Grand Master of the 48th District in 1962. He served as secretary of the Masonic Lodge for the past 39 years. He also served as secretary of Coeburn Royal Arch Chapter for 40 years. Mr. Sands is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Vina Short Sands; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Monroe Robinette; two grandchildren, Nathaniel and Laura Robinette; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Helen Nixon of Baltimore and Mrs. Gertrude Hall of Coeburn, and several nieces, nephews and friends. Masonic services will be conducted 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2004, by the Coeburn Masonic Lodge 97 A.F. & A.M. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tenn. Ira Tester Turner NORA, Va. – Ira Tester Turner, age 88, passed away June 26, 2004, at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County. Tester was a retired coal miner and store merchant and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member and deacon of the Lighthouse Freewill Baptist Church and was attending West Dante Community Church. He was born Feb. 19, 1916, and he married Cindia Mann on Sept. 17, 1934. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Richard Jackson and Sarah Rasnick Turner, his wife, Cindia Turner, his brothers and sisters and one great- grandchild, Joshua Alex Frazier. He is survived by two sons, H.J. and Virginia Turner of Castlewood and Ira and Brenda Turner of Norton; two daughters, Pansy L. Meade of Nora and Patty and Howard Hawkins of Laurel Springs, N.C.; two sisters, Pansy McCoy of Lubbuck, Texas, and Bonnie Payne of Coeburn; one brother, Beldon Turner of Coeburn; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a very special friend, Emory McCoy. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2004, at West Dante Community Church, with Clergymen Danny Meade, Howard Edwards and Darrell Milgrim officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Temple Hill Memorial Cemetery conducted by VFW Post 8979, DAV Chapter 35 and American Legion Post 227. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
