Blevins Jr. GLADE SPRING – David Cecil "Weasel" Blevins Jr., age 47, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2004, at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol Tennessee. He was a native of Mountain City, Tenn., but had lived in Washington County, Va., all of his life and was a son of Cecil and Jettie Stanley Blevins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Malachi and Luvinia Blevins and Etta and Jake Stanley. Mr. Blevins was a truck driver for Worleys Trucking Company and was a member of the Wrights Chapel United Methodist Church. Hawkins VANSANT, Va. – William Robert Hawkins, 59 years of age, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2004, following a brief illness. Born in Marion, N.C., he was a son of Naomi McGee Hawkins of Glenwood, N.C., and the late Everett H. Hawkins. He had been a resident of Buchanan County for several years, a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Marion, N.C., and a retired surveyor. While in service he received the Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal W/10LC, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two stars and Sharpshooter Badge (M16 Rifle). He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Sinking Creek Lodge 575, a member of the Jericho Shriners Scottish Rites of Kingsport, a member of Mystic Tie Lodge AF& AM Marion, N.C., a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 59, where he served as the Past and the Present Commander. He was a member of the John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion Color Guard, the National Guard of Tennessee, the Jericho Shriners Scottish Rights Color Guard and a commissioned Kentucky Colonel. He had spent most of his life in the Richlands area prior to moving to Colorado 20 years ago. Born on April 4, 1980, he was the son of Joseph H. and Bonnie Marshall Keller. He was the grandson of Mr. Henry Smith Keller and Mrs. Margaret Ryan Keller, both now deceased, of Bristol Virginia. He was a graduate of East High School in Pennsylvania, where he was on the track and cross country teams and was a member of the Science Olympiad Team. He was president of the Student Government Association at West Virginia University Institute of Technology, former president of the dorm council and president pro-temp of the student senate. Walt also was a member of the Electronic Combat Part of West Chester, a student at West Virginia University Institute of Technology and was a senior majoring in mechanical engineering. He lived his entire life in West Chester and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in West Chester. He was an avid fisherman and built models. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Matthew H. Keller of Trexlertown; and uncles, aunts and many cousins. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late John and Lydia Yates Matney. She was a graduate of Grundy High School and Radford College. She was a member of the National Education Association and Retired Teachers Association. She was a retired school teacher, having taught at many one and two-room schools in her early career and taught for many years at P.V. Dennis Elementary School. She was a life-long resident of Buchanan County, a member of the Grundy Baptist Church and the last surviving member of her family. Mrs. McClanahan was preceded in death by her husband, Carl McClanahan, March 13, 1994. Also, preceded in death by two brothers, five sisters, and a granddaughter Carla Elaine Rife. Born in Kingsport, Bill was a 1982 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School where he ran track and was a member of the student council, and also attended the University of Tennessee. He was a member of Mafair United Methodist Church and was employed in the food service industry before retiring due to health reasons. Bill was an avid sports lover where he also was involved in coaching. He was a kind, loving, and caring person and will be missed by his family and friends. His grandfathers, W. E. Eula Mae Stevenson CEDAR BLUFF – Mrs. Eula Mae "Mitchell" Stevenson, age 73, was carried from this life of suffering by angels to be with her Lord on Monday, July 5, 2004. She was a loyal and dedicated Christian and active member of the Bandy Freewill Baptist Church. She was a very caring and loving mother and grandmother and loved by all. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Born in Tazewell County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Nancy Baldwin Mitchell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Henry E. Stevenson; two sons, Wayne L. Stevenson and Steve A. Stevenson; one brother, Dennis Mitchell; two sisters, Lorraine Sparks Stevenson and Thelma Christian. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Ann Vance of Cedar Bluff, and Mrs. Tim (Melissa) Lowe of Swords Creek; three sons, Michael Stevenson, Danny Stevenson and wife Leanna, and Terry Stevenson and wife Donna, all of Cedar Bluff; granddaughter and special caregiver, Sarah Vance; grandchildren, Kevin Beavers, Jarad Stevenson, David Stevenson, Jennifer Stevenson, Joshua Starling, Brandon Stevenson, Travis Stevenson, Zachary Stevenson and Charity Stevenson; two great- grandchildren, Jenna Stevenson and Erin Beavers; one sister, Minnie Wright of Ocala, Fla.; two brothers, Floyd Mitchell Jr. and wife Marie of Bandy, Va., and Ken Mitchell and wife Louella of Cedar Bluff; special niece and nephew, Nancy Sparks Starling and Danny Starling, who Eula was like a second mom to; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, with Rev. Sam Altizer, Rev. Danny Starling, Rev. Lawrence Hayes and Brother Marvin Nipper officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Jarad Stevenson, Kevin Beavers, David Stevenson, Brandon Stevenson, Travis Stevenson, Joshua Starling, Leslie Mitchell and Roger Christian.
