She was 98 years of age and taught school for more than 40 years. She was the daughter of Davis D. and Hattie Stinson Breeding of Russell County, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Martin, and by two brothers, Paul A. Breeding, Wytheville, and Clarence Herbert Breeding, Speedwell, Tenn. She was a member of the Midway Baptist Church in Bristol. She graduated from Virginia Intermont College and Radford College. She taught school in Buchanan County, Russell County, Prince William County in Virginia and retired from teaching fourth grade in Bensalem, Pa. Surviving are three sisters, Edith Van Deventer, Roanoke, Dorothy Monk, Lebanon, and Mildred Nolen, Cooper City, Fla.; a brother, John H. McMurray, age 80, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, July 7, 2004, after a period of declining health. Linzy was born in Scott County, Va., May 10, 1924, and he was a son of the late John and Belle (Taylor) McMurray. He had been a resident of Sullivan County for a number of years. Linzy was retired from the Acid Department of the Tennessee Eastman Company after 41 years and seven months of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Hester Taylor, and his brothers, Sherman, Claude and Randell McMurray. Rouse, 90, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2004, in the Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, following a brief illness. Mr. Rouse was a lifetime resident of Smyth County. He owned and operated several businesses for 61 years. He was a successful business developer, who played a pivotal role in the first industrial development of Smyth County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen M. Rouse and Clara Dinkins Rouse, two brothers, Lloyd J. Rouse and John J. Rouse, and one sister, Chloe Rouse Haga. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Duncan Rouse; son, George Stephen Rouse; daughter-in-law, Mary A. Rouse; one granddaughter, Heather Luttrell and her husband John Luttrell; two great-grandchildren, Mary-Elizabeth Luttrell and Georgia-Kate Luttrell. Born in Mount Carmel, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Pearl and Bruce Tranbarger. She was a native of Hawkins County and resided most of her life on the family farm in Church Hill with her late husband, Bert E. Smith Jr. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Church Hill and was involved with several Bible study groups in Church Hill and Kingsport. She was a homemaker and an avid flower gardener. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mable Martin and Anna Lou Casteel, her brothers, Paul Tranbarger, Hubert Tranbarger, Robert B. Tranbarger Jr. and Jack Tranbarger. Survivors include her children, Nancy and Shelbourne Wallace of Bristol, Judith Cave of Kingsport, Bert E. South, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 7, 2004. She was a devout Christian and practiced her beliefs in everything she did in life. She was born in Pound on Sept. 18, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Delmer and Leona Mullins Meade. She moved to Hopewell in 1955. She was a member of Calvary’s Love Ministries, where she was a regular caregiver in the nursery. She was a loving and giving person who will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Zelma lived a simple life and nothing made her happier than being with her family and having all the grandchildren around her. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and her family and friends were blessed to have been a part of her world. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jonathan South, one sister, Carzella Osborne, and four brothers, Jess, Newman, Jerry and Tommy Meade. He had lived most of his life in the Offset community in Sullivan County and was a member and deacon of the South Chapel Baptist Church in Bristol Tennessee. Mr. Widner was a retired bus driver for Holston Bus Company. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Goldie R. Widner; three daughters, Margaret Hawkins and husband Marvin and Rita Johnson and husband Dennis, all of Bristol Tennessee, and Sharon Blevins and husband Billy of Abingdon; a daughter-in-law, Myrtle B. Wilson BRISTOL, Tenn. – Bobby Hugh Wilson, age 72, of 408 Greenfield Place, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2004, in the Wellmont Hospice House. Mr. Wilson was born in Mendota, Va., to the late Artist and Garnie Sproles Wilson. He had lived all his life in the Bristol area, was a brick mason and a member of the Volunteer Baptist Church. Mr. Wilson was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Gerline H. Wilson. Mr. Wilson is survived by two sons, Art Wilson and Mark H. Wilson; one daughter, Vicki R. Wilson Taylor; three grandsons; two granddaughters; two great- granddaughters; one great-grandson; two sisters, Bernice Poe and Christina Linder, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 10, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, with the Dr. Kenneth Jordan and Brother J.D. Neeley officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, with military honors to be rendered by the Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975. Pallbearers will be Mike Brock, Clayton Wilson, Clyde Poore, Bud Wright, Bo Bellemy and Bobby Barker. Honorary pallbearers will be Curley Thomas, Bud Henson, Guy Slone and Charles Butcher. Wyatt BRISTOL, Tenn. – Twyla D. Wyatt, age 64, of 316 New Camp Ridge Road, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at her residence. She was a homemaker and the daughter of the late Robert and Doris Hovis Wheatley. She was preceded in death by a husband, Harold "Doc" Wright. Survivors include a brother, Lenny Wheatley of Ohio. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, July 9, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Wyatt Cemetery, with Rev. Robert Coffey officiating. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home.
