Marceline Burnett Bailey, of 4008 Nickleby Court, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2004, in the Holston Valley Medical Center, after a courageous 10-year battle with ovarian cancer. Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Wayne Lee Blevins KONNAROCK, Va. – Wayne Lee Blevins, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the home of his daughter in New Castle, Va. He was a native of Washington County, Va., and had lived in Konnarock before moving to New Castle in 1990. He was the son of the late Victor and Ollie Mae Ball Blevins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Marie Blevins, a son, Ronald Wayne Blevins, a grandson, Jason Young Grimm, and a special friend, Bertha Boone. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, and covered most all of the European Campaign, including Normandy. Mr. Blevins was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 57 of Abingdon, worked as a coal miner and carpenter and was a member of the Azen Baptist Church. He is survived by three daughters, Barbara Grimm and her husband Donald of New Castle, Brenda Morrison of Konnarock and Joyce Asbury and her husband Eddie, of Saltville; four grandchildren, Edward Grimm, Dawn Fisher, Ronda Blevins and Tina Blevins; five great-grandchildren, Sarah Fisher, Nathaniel Fisher, Emerald Grimm, Morgan Grimm and Sonya Blevins; a special nephew, Danny Absher; one brother, Vernie Blevins of Konnarock; five sisters, Mae Boone of Shacklefords, Va., Edna Pinter of Gary, W.Va., Betty Saddler of Pennsylvania, Rita Campbell of Hayes, Va., and Carol Eller of Meadowview, and several nieces and nephews. Jean Wilson Compton Jean Wilson Compton died Thursday, July 22, 2004. She was born in Flat Rock, Va., Nov. 16, 1931, to Irene Reedy Wilson of Pataskla, Ohio, and the late Jesse B. Wilson. They retired from the lumber business in 1991. Jean was always active in church activities and as a Sunday School teacher for handicapped children. She and Marion also had a church bus route. She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, and attended North Star Baptist Church in Bristol Virginia. Crickmer TAZEWELL – Harold Evans Crickmer, age 80, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol Tennessee. Born June 20, 1924, in McAlpine, W.Va., he was a son of the late Walter Baldwin Crickmer and Ethel Gilchrist Crickmer. Mr. Crickmer was a graduate of Mark Twain High School in Stokesberry, W.Va. He attended Concord College and graduated from West Virginia University, with a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the Fourth Marine Division. He had worked as a mining engineer and had retired as a vice president from Pittston Coal Group. He was a member of the Tazewell Christian Church, a member of the Marine Corps League, the Tazewell Lions Club, the Fincastle Country Club and the Alumni Association of West Virginia University. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Mason Crickmer, Douglas Fredrick Crickmer and Walter Baldwin Crickmer Jr., and one sister, Marion Crickmer Grimm. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jeanette Hall Crickmer; one daughter, Susan Crickmer Jackson and husband Tom of Salisbury, Md.; one sister, Marjorie Crickmer Myers of Apopka, Fla.; one grandson, Thomas Preston Jackson II, and numerous nieces and nephews. Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mary Brooke Massie BRISTOL, Va. – Mary Brooke Massie, age 46, died July 19, 2004, in Bristol Virginia, where she resided the last years of her life. Brooke was a native of Rappahannock County, Va., born to Grace Wallihan Massie and Wade H. Massie III on June 9, 1958. She was one of the first female graduates from Randolph Macon Academy in Front Royal, Va., where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the school’s "It’s Academic" team. Brooke completed her education at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, earning a bachelor’s degree in government, with high distinction, in 1980, and a law degree in 1983, while serving as editor of the law school’s tax journal. Throughout her life, Brooke was an avid reader and writer. She was dedicated to her family and friends and to her pets. In her years in Bristol, she was active at the State Street United Methodist Church and several community organizations. She will be remembered by her warm disposition, keen intellect and dry wit. Brooke is survived by her brothers and sister, Wade W. Massie of Bristol Virginia, Michael M. Massie of Washington, Va., George H. Massie of Washington, Va., and Nancy M. Wiley of Orange, Va.
