Ruth Hall NORTON – Virgie Ruth Hall, age 81, passed away Thursday evening, July 22, 2004, at her home in Mooresburg, Tenn. She was born in Wise County, Va., and lived nearly all of her life in Norton. She was a mother and a homemaker. Ruth was a 30-year member of the Norton and Wise County Bowling Leagues and was also a charter member of the Norton Rescue Squad. She attended Davis Chapel Church. She was a daughter of the late Alexander and Lillie Bledsoe Moore, and was also preceded in death by a son, Cecil Berry Hall, and two brothers, Fred Moore and Bill Moore. Survivors include her husband, Thomas J. James E. Lewis BRISTOL, Tenn. – James E. Lewis, age 75, died Friday, July 23, 2004, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. He was born on June 27, 1929, in Bristol, where he was a lifelong resident and the son of the late Orville and Carrie Lewis. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles and the 865 Anti- Aircraft Artillery Unit. Mr. Lewis also fought in the Korean War from 1951-1953, and served five years in the Army Reserves, after receiving an honorable discharge. He was valedictorian of the Class of 1947 at Virginia High School. During his high school years, he was an employee of Hecht’s Bakery. He owned and operated the Oakview Market in Bristol Virginia, for seven years. He also worked as an agent for Jim Walter Homes for five years. Later, he worked as a self- employed painter. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Rebecca Lewis of the home, and two sons, Roger Lewis of Bristol and Starrett Lewis and wife Lori of Jonesborough, Tenn. Graveside services will be held Monday, July 26, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Glenwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Norman Loveless and Rev. Gary Rowlette officiating. Military honors will be provided by the National Guard Troop F, 2/278 ACR and the VFW Patton Crosswhite Post 6975. Lind, age 77, the best father and husband in the world, passed away on July 21, 2004. He was preceded in death by Marian, his dearly beloved wife of nearly 46 years, and brothers, Inge Rolv Lind and Egil Frode Lind. He is survived by daughters, Helen Lind, Marta Gray and husband Christopher; sons, David Lind and wife Sandy and Erik Lind and wife Judy; grandchildren, Brian, Sean, Sara, Kari, Rebecca, Brett, Stephanie and Kjirsten; sister, Bjorg Tonsberg and husband Sigurd of Oslo, Norway, and three special nephews, Craig, Martin and Colin Lind. Nils was a pioneer in hydraulic technology who was well-known, widely respected and trusted throughout the railroad maintenance industry as a result of his innovative designs. In retirement, he was able to pursue a passion for woodworking, becoming a master clock-maker and luthier. His fine craftsmanship has left a legacy that will endure far into the future. His greatest gift was his limitless love for his family, especially his wife, Marian, for whom he tirelessly and lovingly cared for during her long illness. His presence in the lives of those who knew and loved him was a priceless gift. He will be dearly missed. Minegar, age 79, was called home suddenly by our Father on Friday, July 23, 2004. He was born in Elkhart, Ind., on Aug. 25, 1924, served in World War II and marched under the Arc de Triomphe, participating in the liberation of Paris. He also served in the Korean War. He was an experienced businessman, faithful pastor, beloved husband, father, grandfather and a friend of integrity to all who knew him. He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 57 years, Sally Rose Minegar; his daughters, Lori Boies of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Lynn Beasley and husband Mark of Charlotte, N.C.; his son, Craig Minegar and wife Judith of Winter Park, Fla., and his grandchildren, Clint, Charity and Chassen Boies, Steven and Benjamin Minegar and Jason and Faith Beasley. Virgil Smith GRUNDY – Virgil Smith, 71 years of age, of the Lynn Camp section, passed away Friday, July 23, 2004, at home following a brief illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Major and Sarah Ramey Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a member of the Bethlehem Old Regular Baptist Church No. 2. Mr. Smith was a retired coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion, member of the American Legion Military Detail, past post commander of the John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Evalene Smith, Oct. 23, 1999. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Stiltner, and two brothers, Joseph Smith and Archie Smith. He is survived by four daughters, Pamela and husband Randall Sutherland, Big Rock, Va., Sonya L.
