Church RICHLANDS – Ms. Valerie Charlene Church, age 44, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2004, in a Bristol Tennessee hospital following a lengthy illness. Combs BLUFF CITY – Kenneth E. Combs, age 73, of 405 River Road, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, July 24, 2004, at the Johnson City Medical Center, following an extended illness. A native of Bluff City, he was a son of the late Berson and Gertrude Hicks Combs. Mr. Combs was a member of Piney Flats First Baptist Church, where he formerly served on the Maintenance and Fellowship Committees. He retired from Raytheon Corporation, after working for 30 years, and was a Korean War Air Force veteran. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, June Combs, Bluff City; one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Steve Braswell, Piney Flats; three brothers, Ralph Combs, Jack Combs and Clarence Combs, all of Bluff City, and several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2004, in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home-Bluff City, with Dr. Allen Davis and Rev. Reed Mullins officiating. Music will be under the direction of Clay Nelson and Linda McCurry. The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Sunrise Cemetery. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to travel in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bill Ray, Gary Shipley, Jim Sanders, Clay Nelson, Bill Baird, Euell Goodman, Michael Combs and Tony Green. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Piney Flats First Baptist Church, Earl Forrester, Joe Papp, Wayne Braswell, Kyle Banner, Tim Henderson and Paul Boling. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday, July 26, prior to the service in the chapel, or other times at the residence. Ethan Duranso Ethan Thomas Duranso, infant son of Gary and Belinda Duranso, passed away Friday, July 23, 2004, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Andrew Duranso, Kingsport, and Gary Duranso, Michigan; two sisters, Misty Anderson and Jenie Duranso, both in Arizona; maternal grandmother, Betty Rush, Bristol Virginia; paternal grandmother, Nancy Duranso, Kingsport; three aunts, Beverly Stanley and Barbara Rush, both of Bristol, and Kathy Moggo, Michigan, and two uncles, Benny Rush, Bristol, and Gerald Duranso, Michigan. Smith, age 95, widow of Biram F. Smith, went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 25, 2004, from her home in Marion. She was born June 7, 1909, to the late Walter and Lina Brooks. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ed Greer, a grandson, David Greer, and several brothers and sisters. Mrs. Smith is survived by one daughter, Myrtle Greer of Marion; one granddaughter, Regina Talbert and husband Dale of Saltville; one granddaughter- in-law, Pam Greer of Atkins, Va.; one great-granddaughter, Mandi Vanhoozer and husband Will of Marion; one great-great-grandson, Tommy Vanhoozer of Marion; one step-great-granddaughter, Stephanie Taylor and husband Kevin of Saltville; one step-great-great-grandson, Kevin Jacob Cade Taylor of Saltville; several nieces and nephews, including special nieces and nephews, Walt Dennison and wife Beulah, Bob Smith and wife Geraldine, Ethel Louthen and husband Harold and Polly Street, and special friends, Ruth Rosenbaum, Cissy Lyon, Sheila Warren and Angie Warren.
