Bolling NORTON – Pauline Thacker Bolling, 81, went home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2004, at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Norton. She was born in Norton and lived most of her life there, was a good mom and friend and will be greatly missed by all. She was of the Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Creed T. Bolling, a daughter, Shirley Thompson, her parents, Huey and Lear Thacker, a brother, Euell Thacker, and three sisters, Ann Begley, Buelah Thacker and Rella Hembree. Ratcliffe MARION – George Washington Ratcliffe, age 85, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol Tennessee. Mr. Ratcliffe was born in Saltville to the late Henry C. and Fannie Burgess Ratcliffe, and was preceded in death by a son, Roger Ratcliffe. He was retired from Brunswick Corporation, after 37 years of employment, and attended the Marion Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, and was the recipient of several medals of valor. Mr. Ratcliffe was also a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. Survivors include wife, Cosby Gillespie Ratcliffe; two daughters and sons-in- law, Carolyn and Bill McClellan, Marion, and Vickie and Doug Davidson, Ocala, Fla.; two sons and three daughters-in-law, George and Susan Ratcliffe, Atkins, Va., John and Sue Ratcliffe, Atkins, and Mary Ratcliffe, Marion; one sister, Hazel Wyatt, Marion; one brother, Fred Ratcliffe, Baltimore; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a special friend, Uncle Bill Burgess, and several nieces and nephews also survive. "Jack" Whitaker, 84, of 291 Boozy Creek Road, Blountville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Bristol Hospice House. He was born in Scott County, Va., Boozy Creek, and attended Salem United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 12th Armored Division. He was preceded in death by his parents, B.L. Whitaker and Kate Snapp Whitaker, and two sisters, Mildred Hodge and Madge McClain. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Elsie McClain Whitaker of the home; two daughters, Kay Calhoun and husband Glenn of Blountville and Dorothy Baker and husband Paul of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Michelle Towns and husband Bryan, Kingsport, Beverly Haile and husband Nathaniel, Blacksburg, Va., and Paul W.
