Mary Lucille Hoops TAZEWELL – Mary Lucille Hoops, age 80, formerly of Cedar Bluff, passed away Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in a Tazewell hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born in Cedar Bluff, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Nell Burnett Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, one sister, two brothers and son-in-law, Dennis Howery. Mrs. Hoops is survived by her husband, the Rev. Charles Hoops; one son, Ben Hoops and wife Joann of Beckley, W.Va.; one daughter Mary Lou Howery of Bluefield, Va.; three sisters, Christina Jackson and husband Earnest of Belfast, Va., Charlotte Barrett and husband Allen of Abingdon and Lois Ann Short of Richlands; two brothers, Henry David Williams and wife Margaret of Jewell Ridge, Va., and Harry Dale Williams of Cleveland, Ohio; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive. Norma Simerly Rash BRISTOL, Tenn. – Norma Faye Simerly Rash, age 57, passed away, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. She was born July 24, 1947, in Sullivan County, Tenn., was a homemaker and attended the Beidleman Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sarah Edith Pickel, and a granddaughter, Sarah Rash. Survivors include daughter, Melissa Smith, Bristol Tennessee; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jeffery Rash, Bristol Tennessee, and Johnny "Jody" Rash and wife Lisa, Bristol Tennessee; father, Ray J. Smith, age 72, passed away Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced later by Bradley’s Funeral Chapel, Chilhowie. John O. Windham HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – John O. Windham, age 84, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Huntsville Hospital. Mr. Windham was born in Decatur, Ala., and was the oldest son of the late John Oxford Windham and Ruby Blandon Cowan. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Forces. He graduated from Auburn University in 1947, and was employed as an aeronautical engineer with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for 35 years. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Huntsville, where he served as a deacon, a member of the Joe Stowers Sunday School class and enjoyed singing with the Hallelujah choir. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Katherine Simcox Windham; one daughter, Katherine Windham Hutchens and husband Wayne of Atlanta; one sister, Jane Windham Johnson of Huntsville; a brother-in-law, William M. Simcox of Blountville, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, in Huntsville.
