Gwendola Pearl Williams, 90 Blanche W. Bradshaw NORTON – Blanche Whitaker Bradshaw, 87, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at her home in Miami. Born to the late Floyd H. and Flaura Cox Whitaker in Norton, she moved from the Norton area during the Second World War, but returned often to visit family and friends. She was preceded in death by brothers, Willard D. Whitaker and Harold K. Whitaker. She is survived by a daughter, Ellen Fulton; a grandson, Steven Arnold; a granddaughter, Kelly Fulton; a brother, Buford C. Whitaker Sr. and his wife Nancy; a sister, Ruth Whitaker Burke and her husband Jerry, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Bradshaw will be held Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, with the Rev. John Ellington officiating. Mary Boone Hall BRISTOL, Va. – Mary Boone Hall, 94, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at NHC of Bristol. She was born Jan. 25, 1910, in Petros, Tenn., and was the widow of C.O. "Bud" Hall. She lived in Pardee and Blackwood, Va., and later in Norton, where she worked for Cury’s Department Store. She moved to Bristol in 1960 and worked for Tri-State Discount here. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert T. and Victoria McDonald Boone, her sisters, Nora Belle, Nina and Maude, brothers, Clarence, Bill and Bob Boone, and an infant son, Charles Eugene. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Bristol. Mrs. Boone is survived by one daughter, Sally Dean Robbins and her husband John of Bristol; two sons, Cyrus Onley Hall Jr. and his wife Donna of Christiansburg and James G. Hall and his wife Christine (who was a devoted daughter-in-law) of Bristol; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kelsey was a former employee of Big Jack Manufacturing and was also a housewife. Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Glen W. Kilday Sr. BRISTOL, Tenn. – Glen William Kilday Sr., 94, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at NHC of Bristol. He was born March 22, 1910, in Afton, Tenn., near Greeneville, and was preceded in death by his parents, James and Anis Kilday of Afton, two brothers, and four sisters. Mr. Kilday attended the old Doak High School in Chucky, Tenn. He graduated from Milligan College in 1933, where he played football and was a manager for basketball. He worked his way through school in the midst of the Depression. He later worked for Bristol Utilities, where he met his wife of 58 years, Margaret Rader Kilday. They were married in 1937. He was a charter member of the "Greatest Generation," giving most of his energy to the goal that his sons would have it better than his generation. He spent his entire career in public service. He taught high school math and coached basketball for a brief time, then served as a "sanitarian" (now called "environmentalist") for the Sullivan County Health Department for about 20 years. He then became superintendent of sanitation for the City of Winston-Salem, N.C., for 24 years, before returning to Bristol after his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army after the outbreak of World War II, from March of 1941 till January of 1946, working to control yellow fever and malaria in East Africa. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for his "exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements, rendered in a clearly exceptional manner." He was honorably discharged as a major in 1946. He was one of the organizing founders of the Bristol Little League Baseball program in 1950, and the first president of the Bristol Pony League Baseball organization in 1951. He earned his master’s degree in public health from the University of North Carolina in 1950. He was a loyal and active member of First United Methodist Church, where he served for many years as a Sunday School teacher, youth counselor and other offices. He was active in civic activities, including Civitan Club and was a volunteer with Bristol Memorial Hospital and Bristol Regional Medical Center. He helped install scores of Lifeline connections. He was honored with the Woodman of the World Outstanding Citizen Award, as was his wife, Margaret. Mr. Kilday was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, his parents, James and Anis Kilday of Afton, Tenn., two brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, James Fredrick and Donna Kilday of Bristol Tennessee and Glen William Jr. and Genie Kilday of Knoxville; grandchildren, Kathy Kilday Gillenwaters of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Doug Kilday of Austin, Texas, Dan Kilday of Bristol, James F. "Chip" Kilday Jr. of Arlington, Va., Mitzi Kilday of Charlotte, N.C., and Jeremy Kilday of Boone, N.C.; step-grandchildren, Billy McFall of Durham, N.C., and Matthew McFall of Boone; four great-grandchildren; nephews, Bill Kilday and Rex Kilday of Greeneville, and niece, Carolyn Tilson of Greeneville. McKinnon MARION – Walter Scott McKinnon, age 85, passed away Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, in the Francis Marion Manor. He was born June 10, 1919, in Grayson County, to the late Arthur and Rosie McKinnon, and was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Richard, Emmitt and Ottie McKinnon, and one sister, Elizabeth Foster. He was a Marion businessman for many years, owning the Economical Supply & Excavating Company. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Smyth County Moose Lodge 1004 and the Falling Water Baptist Church. Survivors include Wave Sexton McKinnon; one adopted son, Darrell McKinnon and wife Robin, Marion; one grandson, Dannon McKinnon, Marion; one brother, Paul McKinnon, Marion, and two sisters, Mabel and Jack Henderlite, Atkins, Va., and Harlo Henderlite, Marion. Williams Gwendola Pearl Williams, age 90, entered into eternal peace on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004. She was born July 17, 1914, in Volney, Va., to the late John B. and Cora Gaultney Phillips. She was a member of Anderson Street United Methodist Church and the Sunday School Class of ’86. Mrs. Williams lived most of her life in Bristol and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Anderson. Survivors included a sister, Pauline Odum, one brother, Greer Phillips, and several nieces and nephews.
