Miller, 96, Bucyrus, Ohio Mary Sue Plummer, Bristol Virginia Jimmy L. Baker CLINTWOOD – Jimmy L. Baker, age 68, passed away at his home Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004. He was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County, a disabled coal miner, veteran of the Korean War, and a 1954 graduate of Dickenson Memorial High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hardaway and Hattie (Wallen) Baker; three brothers, Richard "Ricky" Baker, Cecil Baker and Glenn Baker. He is survived by his wife, Betty Baker of Clintwood; son, Brad Baker and wife Tara of Jackhorn, Ky.; daughter, Vickie Baker of Clintwood; brothers, Carroll Baker and A.J. Baker, both of Clintwood; sisters, Sue Mullins and Janie Bise, both of Clintwood; grandson, Matthew Baker of Clintwood; granddaughter, Courtney Baker of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews. Born to the late Floyd H. and Flaura Cox Whitaker in Norton, she moved from the Norton area during the Second World War, but returned often to visit family and friends. She was preceded in death by brothers, Willard D. Whitaker and Harold K. Whitaker. She is survived by a daughter, Ellen Fulton; a grandson, Steven Arnold; a granddaughter, Kelly Fulton; a brother, Buford C. Whitaker Sr. and his wife Nancy; a sister, Ruth Whitaker Burke and her husband Jerry; and many nieces and nephews. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tenn. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. Mr. Dillman was retired from the Norfolk and Western Railroad after 27 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Virginia Anders Dillman. He is survived by one son, Ronald C. Dillman of Marion; one granddaughter, Brandi N. James Edward Hill ABINGDON – James Edward "Jim" Hill, age 64, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at his residence after a long illness. He was born in Abingdon, the son of the late James N. and Ruth Musick Hill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Sue Owens Hill. He retired from Appalachian Power Company, having worked 33 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving as a boom operator on a KC135 from 1958-1962. He was known by many as "Boomer." He was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church. He was a freelance photographer for many years. He was a member and past Master of Masonic Lodge 48, Abingdon. He served on the Grand Lodge of Virginia 1997-1998. He was a Worthy Patron of Eastern Star, 32 Scottish Rite. He was a member of Shriner of Kazim Temple and Jericho Temple. He was the photographer of Kazim Temple for 20 years. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and past president of Desert Sands Shrine Club. A member of the Abnormals Parade Unit. He was the co- founder of the Hollywood Boys and a member of the Shrine Legions of Honor. He was well-liked and well-loved by dear friends and loving family. Survivors include one sister and brother in law, Linda H. and Thomas L. Haworth of Asheville, N.C.; one nephew, David L. Wise of Mooresville, N.C.; three nieces, Renee Hensley, Hope and husband Larry R. He was born June 10, 1919, in Grayson County, to the late Arthur and Rosie McKinnon, and was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Richard, Emmitt and Ottie McKinnon, and one sister, Elizabeth Foster. He had been in Ridgefield Retirement Center in Chilhowie for about nine years and cared for daily by his brother, Paul. He was a Marion businessman for many years, owning the Economical Supply & Excavating Company. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Smyth County Moose Lodge 1004 and the Falling Water Baptist Church.
