Bellamy, 96, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at her home. Surviving is one stepdaughter, Mrs. Louise Wyatt of Bristol Tennessee. Funeral and burial will be held in Chicago. A.A. Clarke BRISTOL, Tenn. – Rowland Joseph Clarke, age 71, 1004 Columbia Road, passed away after a short illness, Wednesday morning, Aug. 18, at Greystone Health Care Center. He was a son of the late Freddie Thompson and Roger W. Clarke. Mr. Clarke was born in Tarboro, N.C., but spent most of his adult life in Tennessee. He was a retired textile weaver. He served in the U.S. Army, having been a Purple Heart recipient, and was wounded in Korea. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Joseph and Roger Lee Clarke, one sister, Myrtle Brown, and one brother, Ronald Clarke. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Janice Conner Clarke; three sisters, Bessie Frost of Gray, Faye Sheppard of Richmond Hills, Ga., and Sarah Manning of Little Washington, N.C., and one brother, Ray Clarke of Germany. Mr. Clarke is also survived by several nieces and nephews and two special nephews, Kenneth Sheppard and Jerry Wayne Conner Jr. He was a member of the Baptist faith and a member of the Bristol American Legion Post. Graveside services will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Liberty Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Liberty Church Road, Kingsport. Velma Greer NORTON – Velma Greer, 80, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at her home, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Dickenson County, Va., and was the daughter of the late Ervin and Delphia Potter of Burdine, Ky. Velma was a member of the Norton Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, William "Jake" Bledsoe, brothers, Buford and Bill Potter, sisters, Lois Baker, Jacqueline West and Kay Cheek. Survivors are a son, Robert Greer and his wife Linda of Grundy; daughters, Loretta Bledsoe and her husband Bill of Norton and Billie Sue Miller and her husband Tom of Smyrna, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Robbie Greer, Karen Bledsoe Allen and Steven Miller; four sisters, Ruby Collins, Yvonne Raffel, Joyce Lucas and Emma Sue Telfrey; one brother, Burns Ray Potter; several nieces and nephews and special caregivers, Michelle, Amber and Emily. Grindstaff, age 90, of 930 Stout Branch Road, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at the Watauga County Medical Center, following an extended illness. She was born Dec. 1, 1913, in Brownwood, N.C. She was the daughter of the late John D. Greer and Rebecca Mitchell Greer. In addition to her parents, Nannie was preceded in death by her husband, Don L Grindstaff, who passed away in 1986, three brothers, Albert, Sanford and Raymond Greer, and four sisters, Beulah Phillips, Edna Greer, Ollie Garretson and Viola Baker. Nannie was a homemaker and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed canning, cooking, traveling and horses. Survivors: one son, Danny Justin Grindstaff and wife Margaret Grindstaff of Mountain City; one sister, Mattie Walker, Mountain City; two grandchildren, Justin Grindstaff and wife Amy, Bluff City, and Tracy Holly and husband Wes, Elizabethton, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Anisha and Kendall Grindstaff, Bluff City; special friends, Rose Potter, Butler, Tenn., Willie Dickens, Mountain City, and Sandra Blevins, Butler, and several nieces and nephews also survive. Tina Livesay KINGSPORT – Tina "Sis" Livesay, 35, flew home with the angels on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, after a lifelong illness. A native of Sullivan County, she had lived in the area and in Virginia her entire life. She enjoyed working puzzles, coloring, laughing, feeding "Sissy’s" horse and spending time with family and friends and will be missed by all that knew her. Tina was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Elmer and Phyllis Livesay; her papaw and mamaw, Frank and Lizzie Livesay; a sister, Nichole Barbour; a niece, Payslee Fink Gaby; her stepdad, Jimmy Bowen, a nephew, Ricky Christian; her maternal grandmother, Corinne Lane; paternal uncle, Gary Lane, and paternal aunt, Opal Lane. Shirley Ann Matney GRUNDY – Shirley Ann Matney, 62 years of age, passed away Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, in Bluefield Regional Medical Center, Bluefield, W.Va., following a short illness. Born in Tazewell County, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Vernie Smith Matney. She was a resident of Buchanan County most of her life and a member of Little Prater Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Grundy High School Class of 1960 and a former employee, with 10 years of service, with the Army Map Service, Washington, D.C. She was active member of the Busy Bees Ladies Group of the Little Prater Church of Christ and an active member of the Ladies Red Hat Club. She was a retired employee of Buchanan County School Board. Newberry VANSANT, Va. – Winfred L. Newberry, age 54, of Route 1, passed away at his residence Friday, Aug. 20, 2004. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of Willard and Audrey Potter Newberry. He was the owner and founder of Newberry Trucking, which has been in business for 30 years. He loved riding his motorcycle and playing golf. Norton BRISTOL, Tenn. – Betty Mae Norton, age 73, a lifelong resident of the Bristol area, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Norton was born on April 14, 1931, in Bristol Tennessee, to the late William Denver and Lucy Galloway Campbell. She was the co-owner of Tri-City Opticians, a former employee of the Raytheon Company and attended Fellowship Chapel. Mrs. Norton was preceded in death by one son, David Wesley Norton, and by one brother, Jim Campbell. Mrs. Norton is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles W. Norton; her children, Charles L.
