Addington ABINGDON – Orville W. Addington, 95, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004. He was a member of Unitarian Universalist Church of the Highlands and was an avid golfer and bridge player. Mr. Addington was a Navy veteran and a retired professor of math from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Constance Bowman Addington. Survivors include his sister-in-law, June Bowman Owens of Abingdon; one brother, Omer C. Addington of Gate City; special friend and caregiver, Nancy V. Abel of Abingdon; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. A special thank you is extended from the family to caregivers Sue, Dorothy, Lola, Pat and Ed. A graveside service will be held Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, with Bob Hill officiating. Roby Elden Barton LEBANON – Roby Elden Barton, age 71, of Dickenson County, Va., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at the Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Carson Barton and Clercy Barton Tiller. He was a retired miner and a member of UMWA Local 2274, Clintwood and was a member of Trinity Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepfather, Dewey Tiller, two brothers, Beecher Arland Barton and Carson Barton Jr., and one son, David Barton. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Roxy Inez Barton; four sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Cox ABINGDON – Mrs. Beatrice Woodward Cox, age 91, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, in Charlotte, N.C. She was a native of Holston, Va., and lived in Washington County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William E. Woodward. She was a graduate of Greendale High School and graduated from Radford College in 1933. She taught at Greendale, Wallace and William King High Schools and at Abingdon High School for 15 years. She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women, the Wesley Bible Class and served on the administrative board in earlier years. Beatrice was a member of the Washington County Education Association, the Washington County Retired Teachers and the Virginia Education Association. She was a member of the Abingdon Booklovers Club and the hospital auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Roy Cox, her sisters, Dessie Atwell, Hester Price and Regina Woodward, and brothers, Herbert Woodward, Hubert Woodward and Homer Woodward. She is survived by her son, Dr. William Walter Cox, and daughter-in-law, Vicki Butt Cox, of Chesapeake, Va.; her daughter, Elizabeth Moon, and son-in-law, Travis Moon, of Charlotte, N.C.; one granddaughter, Lesley Cox of Tampa, Fla.; two grandsons, Wes Moore of Chicago and Brad Moore of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews. Darin Ray Fuller BRISTOL, Tenn. – Darin Ray Fuller, age 36, of 552 Highway 126, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004. He was a native and lifelong resident of Bristol and a graduate of Sullivan Central High School Class of 1986. He was a past member of the National Bicycle League (BMX), in which he and his brother, Greg Fuller, raced for a number of years. They both were members of PICO and Cycle Craft Racing Team. He was employed with Morton Bishop Paving Company of Blountville. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul E. Fuller; paternal grandparents, Guy E. and Pauline Lilly Fuller; and maternal grandfather, Charlie Ray Burnette. Survivors include his mother, Ruth Anne "Roonie" Burnette Fuller; his brother, Gregory Michael Fuller of the home; his maternal grandmother, Corintha Pippin Burnette of Bristol Virginia; one nephew, Michael Paul Orion Fuller; special aunts, uncles and cousins; all members of the "Crew," and last, but certainly not least, "Suicide Scruff," the miracle dog. Hodge BLOUNTVILLE – Sabra Ida Main Hodge, of 237 Old Stagecoach Road, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Johnson County, Tenn., and lived in Blountville most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Asa and Ella Mae Reese Main, and the widow of Orville A. Hodge Sr. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Nealia Sheets, Marie Campbell, Eula Mae Main and Thelma Bomar; a brother, Frank Hammond; and a great-granddaughter, Latasha Hodge. Mrs. Hodge was a retired employee of the Sullivan County Board of Education, was of the Baptist faith and was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Survivors include three daughters, Judith Gray, Peggy Blevins and Eva Brooks, all of Blountville; four sons, Richard Hodge of Blountville, Orville Hodge Jr. of Kingsport, David Hodge of Bluff City and Joseph Hodge of the home; three sisters, Edith Joyner of Grand Prairie, Texas, Rachel Brown of Memphis and Patricia Fincher of Queen City, Texas; two brothers, J.R. Hudson, age 79, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at the James H. Quillen Veteran Affairs Medical Center. He was a World War II veteran, having served in Central Europe, Northern France and Germany. He received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Expert Infantry Badge and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. Following the war, Mr. Hudson remained in Germany and served as a military policeman during the Nuremberg Trials. A native of North Carolina, he had been a businessman in Bristol since 1957, owning and operating Empire Coin Machine Inc., throughout Southwest Virginia for 45 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine R. Hudson. Survivors include a daughter, Katherine M. Hudson, and a son, Curtis H. Hudson Jr., both of Bristol Tennessee.
