Loyce was a member of Beverly Hills Tabernacle, Wise, as well as the Pine Mountain/Letcher County Craft Co-op, Ermine, Ky. She was a retired LPN, having worked at Norton Community Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital, and was a talented seamstress. Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by a daughter, Bertha Kaye Austin, her parents, John Franklin Addington and Bertha Lee Aldridge Addington, two brothers, Odas Addington and John B. Addington, and two sisters, Lyell Boggs and Carrie Lee Breckner. He was a disabled coal miner, a member of United Mine Workers Local 1568 and a member of the Old Regular Baptist church. He was a son of the late Claude Sawsan and Lacie Thomas Church. He was a member of the Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Chauncey, W.Va., and attended the Abingdon Church of the Nazarene in Abingdon. Elmer was a retired miner and a member of the UMWA District 17 in West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy K. and Bonnie Owens Scott, a brother, Brownie (Bud) Scott, and a sister, Wilma J. Wells. Sturgill Funeral Homes in Wise is in charge of arrangements. Carlos Shortridge ROWE, Va. – Mr. Carlos "Tom" Shortridge, age 44, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, in a Grundy hospital. Born Jan. 27, 1960, in Buchanan County, Va., he was a son of George and Opal Hall Shortridge of Rowe. A lifelong resident of the Rowe area, he was of the Pentecostal faith. He had attended Garden Creek High School and was a disabled coal miner. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rick Shortridge and Rhonald Shortridge. In addition to his parents, survivors include one son, Matthew Shortridge of the home; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Debra and Sherman Harrison of Rosedale, Va., and Barbara and James Christian of Rowe; one niece, Kim Baldwin; two nephews, Richard Shortridge and Nick Shortridge; and his former wife, Pam Shortridge of Rowe. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Rowe Free Pentecostal Holiness Church at Rowe, with Rev. Ancil Childress and Rev. Arvil Arwood officiating. He was a member of the Valleyview Freewill Baptist Church, a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA District 28. Preceding him in death were his parents, James Addrian and Juanita Smith, one sister, Janice Abriham, and one brother, Larry Smith. He was a native of Galesburg, Ill., and the son of the late Hurley R. and Goldie Boen Tucker. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Merchant Marines, serving in Korea. He retired as a Teamster and worked at Food City in Blountville. He played harmonica and sang with various gospel groups. He was a member of Bradley Street Baptist Church. Mr. Tucker was a great dad, good to everybody and loved kids, his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death a sister, Mildred Blust. Survivors include two daughters, Robin Greco and husband, Michael, of Edwardsville, Ill., and Lori Walker and husband, Gregory, of Wood River, Ill.; two sons, Dennis Tucker and wife, Pamela, of Bethalto, Ill., and Steve Tucker and wife, Pamela, of Edwardsville; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his lady friend, Peggy Peters; one brother-in-law, Charles Blust of Galesburg; two nieces and one nephew.
