He was of the Baptist faith, a 75-year member and past master of the Masonic Lodge No. 59 of Pound, member of E.H. Gill No. 50 of Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons in Virginia, a former governor and pilgrim of the Moose Lodge in Kingsport. Mr. Cantrell will be remembered for his loving contributions to his family, his favorite greeting, "Hi Doll," and his wonderful spirit as he blessed the lives of everyone who knew him. Robert Lee Fritz BRISTOL, Va. – Robert Lee Fritz, 78, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Old Butler, Tenn., the son of the late George Fritz and Mary May Hodge Fritz, and had lived most of his life in the Bristol area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a former employee of Cortrim Manufacturing Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Lynis Hess Fritz. Survivors include his son, Robert Lee Fritz Jr.; two sisters, Bulis Adamson and Betty Ruth Dixon; one brother, James Fritz; two stepdaughters, Jetta Ollis and Lula Ray Hawthorne; one stepson, Louis Hess; several grandchildren, great- grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Henry Edward Green MEADOWVIEW – Henry Edward Green, age 62, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2004. He was born in Pennington Gap, but had lived most of his life in Washington County, Va. He attended William King High School and graduated from the Abingdon High School in 1961, where he was an outstanding athlete. While playing football at Abingdon, he received the Joe Latture award and MVP. While playing baseball, he was scouted by the St. Louis Cardinals. He also graduated from Emory & Henry College. Henry had taught several years in the Washington County School System, having coached football and baseball at John Battle High School and Holston High School, where he had been the athletic director. Henry started working at the Virginia Highlands Community College in 1983, serving first as Job Training Partnership Act programs specialist and then as program assistant in the Division of Continuing Education. Following his retirement, he was appointed to the Virginia Highlands Community College Board by the Washington County Board of Supervisors. He served as chairman of the VHCC Board during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 academic years and was very active in the community serving on numerous committees. He attended the Mahanaim United Methodist Church in Clinchburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Rector Green (the love of his life), and his parents, Thomas Green Jr. and Vivian Hartsock Green. Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Green Taylor and husband, Tracy, of Meadowview, Melissa Green Nava and husband, Jose, of Abingdon; a brother, Thomas Green III and wife, Kay, of Wytheville; an honorary daughter, Marlene Agreda Nava; his joy and pride, two grandsons, Palmer and Colby Taylor. Calvin Thompson RICHLANDS – Mr. W. Calvin Thompson, age 86, passed away Friday, Oct.1, 2004, at his home following an apparent heart attack. Born at Burkes Garden, Va., he was the son of the late William C. and Ruth Fowlkes Thompson. He was a retired Jewell Ridge Coal Corp employee and attended the First Christian Church of Richlands and the Claypool Hill Church of Christ. In addition to his parents a brother, George Thompson, and a sister, Alma Seek, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Billie L. Hagy Thompson; one daughter, Mrs. Susan Thacker and husband Jim of Richlands; two sons, Jim Thompson and wife Janet Woosley of Cedar Bluff, Wayne Thompson and wife Brenda of Cedar Bluff; one sister, Betty Thompson of Rockville, Md.; three brothers, Robert H. Thompson of Springfield, Ohio, Randolph Thompson and Lenden Thompson both of Burkes Garden; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at 2 p.m.. at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, with Evangelist Bob Smith and Rev. Gerald Stacy officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Serving as pallbearers are Mike Richardson, William Dunford, Isaac Thompson, Craig Hagy, Bill Hagy, Larry Stacy, Vaughn Lester and Jerry Coleman. Honorary pallbearers will be friends. Bobby Walls LEBANON – Bobby Walls, 57, passed away on Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon. Arrangements are incomplete at Owens Funeral Service, Lebanon. Sophia Weaver Mrs. Sophia "Billie" Weaver, age 78, formerly of 505 Magnolia Ave, went to be with the Lord Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at the home of her daughter, 1711 Mount Holston Road, in Bluff City, where she was currently living. She was a native of Pike County, Ky. Mrs. Weaver was a very loving wife and mother. She was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Weaver was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald, in 1998. She is survived by two sons, Ron Weaver and wife Amy, Johnson City; Charlie Weaver and wife Trish, Kingsport; one daughter, Debbie Leonard and husband Tommy, Bluff City; one sister, Florence Keene, Brandon, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Lesley and Cole Leonard, Matthew, Aubrey, Jon, Elizabeth, Alex and Lindsay Weaver, Amber Gilbert and husband Mike; two great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Kloe Gilbert; several nieces and nephews. The graveside committal service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Monte Vista Memorial Park.
