Cecil Johnson, 74, Glade Spring Charles Edward Maddox, 72, Big Stone Gap Patricia Andrews ABINGDON – Patricia Anne Andrews, age 50, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at her residence. She was a native of Little Rock, Ark., and had worked as a nurse for the last 30 years. Survivors include a daughter, Jessica Childs, and two sons, Chazmin Childs and Eric Childs. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Knollkreg Memorial Park. Those attending the funeral service are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m. Tuesday. Lester Calhoun BRISTOL, Va. – Lester "Mickey" Roden Calhoun, age 67, of 20243 Benhams Road, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mr. Calhoun was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, and was born on Jan. 23, 1937, in Washington County, Va., to the late Roden Burkett and Minnie Ruth Moore Calhoun. He had lived all his life in the Bristol area, was retired from Eastman Chemical Company, with 31 years of service, and, after retirement, had worked for Roadrunner Delivery Service. Mr. Calhoun was a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Mr. Calhoun was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the National Guard for 27 years. Mr. Calhoun is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda Joyce Bowers Calhoun; one daughter, Donna Marie Calhoun Rock and husband Tony; two sons, William Lester Calhoun and wife Stephanie Lynn and Jeremy David Calhoun, all of Bristol; two grandchildren, Lindsey and Whitney Rock; mother-in-law, Mabel Louise Bowers of Bristol Virginia; two brothers, John C. Calhoun and Robert A. Calhoun Sr.; two sisters, Peggy S. Byars and Rebecca J. Calhoun; two special brothers-in-law, Johnny Grizzle and Larry W. Bowers; five special sisters-in-law, Teresa Grizzle, Sheila Bowers, Linda Bowers, Birdie Calhoun and Lois Calhoun; and several nieces and nephews. Ball Cannon went to be with her Lord, Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center after a short illness. She was born in Saltville, a daughter of the late Manley James Kensley Ball and Sarah Florence Darnell Ball. She was a graduate of Meadowview High School and had made her home in Bristol. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World Lodge 6035 of Bristol Virginia. She was a former employee of Raytheon and Parks Belk. Marie loved to garden, work in her flowers and play Rook. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Cannon Thomas, two brothers, James William and John Clyde Ball, and two sisters, Kathleen Ball and Eleanor Ball Poston. Survivors include husband, Charles "Chuck" Cannon; daughter, Joan Hartley; two grandsons, Eric Hartley and wife, Jennifer, and Chris Hartley and wife, Robin; sister, Margaret Ball Carter and husband, Joe; several cousins, nieces and nephews and one special little friend, Lucas Johnson. He was born on Oct. 31, 1957, in Richlands, to Ronald Kirk Earls Sr. and the late Mary Lou Earls. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1976 and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1976 to 1984. His naval experience led to a lifetime of working in computer technology. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Earls. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Tena Cox Earls; two children, LeAnna Earls Swing and Brandon Earls; granddaughter, Ashley; father, Ronnie Earls; and three younger brothers, Kirk, Michael and Brian Earls, along with their families, also survive. Born Sept. 13, 1939, in Venia, he was a son of the late John Frank and Edith Hess James. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1958 graduate of Council High School. A retired and disabled coal miner, he was employed at Clinchfield Coal Company for over 30 years. He was a member of the Venia Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and the Pruner 254 AF&AM. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Jerry Bostic. Survivors include wife, Velma Carol Farmer James of the home; one daughter, Donna Bostic of Venia; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Deby Cook James of Council, Va.; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Nicole and Artie Nuckles of Venia; one grandson, Tyler Bostic of Venia; four sisters, Martha McGlothlin and Nilah Dillard, both of Honaker, Lucille Austin of Venia and Fayrene Rasnake of Davenport, Va.; one brother, Darrell James of Honaker; and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran of Korea, a member of the First Christian Church of Pennington Gap, Va., a former member of the Coeburn Lions Club and former scoutmaster of Troop 312, Pennington Gap. Maddox BIG STONE GAP – Charles Edward Maddox, 72, died Oct. 2, 2004, at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport. Mr. Maddox was a lifelong resident of the area and played football at Appalachia and St. Charles during his high school days. He was a beloved husband, father and papaw, "Papaw Charles." He loved his church, life, family and his flowers. He was retired, having been employed as a butcher with Armour Food Company. Mr. Maddox served his country with the U.S. Army in Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay Calvin and Flo (Whited) Maddox. Walls, 57, passed away on Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon. Born on Dec. 31, 1947, in Lebanon, he was the son of the late James Walls and Lorena Walls Yates. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles McKinnley Walls. Survivors include one son, Bobby Walls Jr. of Michigan; two brothers, James Walls Jr. of Plymouth, Mich., and Barry Walls of Charleston, S.C.; and two sisters, Nadyne McClellan of San Mateo, Fla., and Christine Ashley of Beleville, Mich.
