Zarnail Ruby Bostic, age 79, of the Baptist Valley section, entered into his heavenly reward with his Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, in a Richlands area hospital after a brief illness. "Zarn" or "Hardrock", as he was affectionately known by many friends and family members, was a tireless and dedicated worker in many of the area’s churches. Zarnail was always willing to lend a hand repairing a roof, building an addition or cleaning up after a natural disaster, as well as promoting Sunday School, encouraging young people or advancing revival in any of the churches he served. Until declining health prevented, he was active in ministry at Laurel Creek and Jones Chapel Free Pentecostal Church of God. Born on May 29, 1925, in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late James William and Rosa Ellen Keene Bostic. He lived most of his life in the Richlands area and was a disabled coal miner. During the latter stages of World War II, he was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock. He was a member of UMWA and was employed by Pocahontas Fuel Company and Clinchfield Coal Company, before becoming disabled in a roof fall. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velva Marie Oliver Bostic; five brothers, Johnny, James, Alfred, Roby and Tommy Bostic; three sisters, Carra Hess, Molly Bostic and Polly Bostic; three stepsisters, Dollie Sisk, Lacy O’Quinn and Myrtle Jackson; two stepbrothers, Tivis and Roley O’Quinn. Surviving family members include two daughters, Mrs. David (Claudine) Nance of Taylorsville, N.C., and Mrs. James (Teresa) Altizer of Cedar Bluff; two sons, James Bostic and wife Kathy of Cedar Bluff and the Rev. Daniel Bostic and wife Connie of Richlands; six grandchildren, Mrs. Darren (Christine) Payne and Mrs. Joe (Carrie) Hartness, all of Taylorsville, Jamie Bostic and wife Kristy of Peterstown, Matthew Bostic and wife Latonia of Taylorsville, Mrs. Ross ( Michelle) Jenkins of Gate City and the Rev. Josh Bostic and wife Veronica of Raven; six great- grandchildren, Garett and Bryson Payne, Krista, Lindsey and Blaine Hartness and Madison Bostic; one stepsister, Maudie Street of Abingdon; and one half-sister, Bonnie McGehee of White City, Ore. Born Oct. 7, 1942, at Russell County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Willie E. and Nannie B. Honaker Wilson. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Vansant Church of Christ. Carl was born April 11, 1934, in Chilhowie, to Luther Blaine and Josephine Doss. He was preceded in death by his father, Blaine Doss, his grandmother, Belle Blevins of Chilhowie and his father-in-law, Hugh Lane of Abingdon. Carl was a member of the South Fork Baptist Church in Marion. He was a former employee of Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon, where he worked for 17 years, before having to retire due to health reasons. He really enjoyed his work and made many friends while working there. Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His greatest joy in life was his family. He was so very proud of each of his children and grandchildren. Carl is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Virginia Lane Doss. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Commerce, supervisor, Virginia Inspection Office National Marine Fisheries Service in Hampton, Va., for 30 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Ted traveled extensively and lived many places due to his job and he always made friends quickly. He loved his family and was so caring to everyone he met. Her precious parents were the late Joe and Jettie Pesto. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and a faithful contributor to Christian Ministry. She was a faithful and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a dear friend to many in her life. Hobbs Jr., both of Bristol Virginia, and Tony Hobbs of Florida; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a very devoted and caring friend, Cecil Burkes. Wampler WYTHEVILLE, Va. – Hortense Elizabeth Jackson Wampler, formerly of Wise County, Va., departed this world Oct. 4, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jefferson "Stonewall" Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold S. Wampler. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy Lynn Wampler Ward and John W.
