Eden Sr. ABINGDON – John L. Eden Sr., age 83, a resident of 28305 Osceola Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born in Washington County, Va., the son of the late David Andrew and Isadore Virginia Fleenor Eden, and spent most of his life in the Bethel community. He was a member and an elder of the Bethel Presbyterian Church. He was trustee and treasurer of the Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. He was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II, with 20 years of service. He was a survivor of the sinking of the USS Lansdale DD 426. He was a life member of the Disabled Veterans James E. Peters Chapter 57. He was a member of the Washington County, Va., Post 12 American Legion. He was the past 9th District Commander of the American Legion. He was a life member of the VFW Post 1994. Survivors include his wife, Betty B. Eden of Abingdon; three sons, John Lewis Eden Jr. of Abingdon, Raymond Ernest Eden of Abingdon and Curtis Lawrence Eden of Abingdon; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Elsea of Mount Dora, Fla.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services for John L. Eden Sr. will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, in the Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Quenton Elkins RICHLANDS – Mr. Quenton Elkins, age 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at the Golden Age Retirement Center at Claypool Hill, Va., following a lengthy illness. He was born in Russell County, Va., and was a son of the late Dave C. and Leona Strouth Elkins, both Russell County natives. He was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area, was a retired miner with Jewell Ridge Coal Corp. at Jewell Ridge, Va., and a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 1760 of Seaboard, Va. He was former owner and operator of Driver Sales and Service, Lonesome Pine Auto Parts and Elkins Wrecker Service in Richlands. Mr. Elkins was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Willie E. Lowe Elkins, two sisters, Edna Robinson and Irene White, also, one brother, Winfred Elkins. Survivors are two sons, Mr. Donald L. Lewis Hall WHITE PINE, Tenn. – Lewis Hall, age 80, passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at his home. He was preceded in death by parents, Irvin L. Hall Sr. and Hester Louise Moss Hall, brother, I.L. Hall Jr., and sisters, Hattie B. Hall and Laura Hall Taylor. Surviving are his wife, Elon Swift Hall, sister, Eloise, and brother, Edward Carroll Hall. He worked at Stouffer Chemical for many years and was a farmer in the White Pine community. Samuel Earl Henegar ABINGDON – Samuel Earl Henegar, 68, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and was of the Baptist faith. Kozakowski KINGSPORT – Lula Minor Kozakowski went home to be with the Lord at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. Born in Big Stone Gap, a daughter of the late Hiram M. and Bessie L. Blevins Minor, she had resided in Kingsport since 1997. Mrs. Kozakowski had been a home services advisor for Old Dominion Power Company in Big Stone Gap. She was a member of the Doran Addition Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Kozakowski will be remembered as a loving wife and mom who loved her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Joseph W. Kozakowski Sr. in 1999, one sister, Janice Terry, and two brothers, Johnny Merrill Minor and Elmer Minor. Survivors include one son, Joe Kozakowski Jr of Kingsport; two sisters, Madeline Bush of Kingsport and Francis Rigg of Centerville, Ohio; five brothers, Kyle Minor and Luther Minor, both of Kingsport, Dewey Minor of Blountville, Harlis Minor of Happy, Ky., and Fred Minor of Piney Flats; and several nieces and nephews. Combs Funeral Service is serving the family of Mr. Lambert. Lorna J. Maloney BLOUNTVILLE – Lorna J. Maloney, 81, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in Covington, Ky., a daughter of the late George A. Lucas and Goldie Hogan McGuire, and was the widow of John C. Maloney. She lived in Cincinnati, moved to Florida in 1980, and had lived in Blountville for the past seven years. She was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Anne Catholic Church. She worked with Stouffer’s Restaurants for 25 years. Survivors include her daughters, Georgia A. Root and her husband Mark of Bristol and Lorna Schutte of Cincinnati; her son, John J. Maloney of El Paso, Texas; grandchildren, Lauren Root, Jason Root, John Lee Maloney, Sean (Maloney) Hafer, Teresa Uterstaedt (Todd), Christine Poth (Jeff), Meredith Meyer (Todd), John David Schutte (Katie), George Schutte, Sarah Schutte and David Schutte Jr.; and five great-grandchildren. McCurry KINGSPORT – Jeremy Phillip McCurry, 22, died unexpectedly. Born in Kingsport on June 26, 1982, he was a loving son, brother and grandson. Jeremy was a friend to all who knew him and was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School Class of 2000. Jeremy enjoyed fishing and golf and was an avid North Carolina Tar Heel fan. Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Jack and Lois McCurry, and uncle, Barry McCurry. Surviving are his stepfather and mother, Robert "Bob" and Donna DeVault; brother, Jackson McCurry; sister, Jessica McCurry; daughter, Taylor McCurry; father, Craig McCurry; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Emogene Haynes; uncles, Stephen Haynes and Lenny Haynes; aunt, Debbie McCurry; and several cousins. Born July 23, 1938, in Buchanan County, Va., a son of the late Ira J. Owens and the late Mary McFarlane Owens, he was a graduate of Council High School and attended the University of Virginia. An industrial engineer, he was a former employee of Russell Manufacturing Co. in Lebanon, A.J. Schneierson and Son in Siler City, N.C., and was the retired owner of B.L. Owens Manufacturing Co. in Altavista, Va. and Eagle Pointe Inc., in Huddleston, Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Owens and Ashby Owens. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Shirley Breeding Owens; a daughter, Kimberly Mayhan and her husband Robert, Green Mountain, N.C.; a son, David W. Owens, Melane, N.C.; a grandson, Daniel S. Culbertson of the home; two sisters, Evelyn Musick and husband Ralph, Meadowview and Laska Fuller and husband Clarence, Rosedale, Va.; three brothers, B.M. She was the daughter of Naomi Mary Adams Mullins and the late Joseph Troy Mullins Sr.; also preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph L. and Mary E. Roberts Mullins and James Taylor and Dicy Roberts Adams; two sisters-in-law, Thelma June Mullins and Karen Ann Mullins; and one brother-in-law, Thomas J. Elliott. Surviving, other than her mother, are her husband of 48 years, Caynor Allen (Sonny) Smith Sr.; a son and daughter-in-law, Caynor Allen Smith Jr. and wife Mary Dora Smith; one grandson, Charles Caynor Smith and one granddaughter, Dora Lee Smith, all of Wise; two sisters, Peggy J.
