Polly Arnold ST. PAUL, Va. – Polly Arnold, 76, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Haslet, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of St. Paul and daughter of the late Walter "Gander" and Norma Jessee. She briefly lived elsewhere before the death of her husband, Bob Arnold. She was a dedicated mother to her two children and lived a very happy life, knowing she was loved by so many. She is survived by one daughter, Danise Arnold of Haslet; one son, David Arnold of Miami Beach, Fla.; one brother, Joseph "Clark" Jessee of St. Paul; and one nephew, Wayne Jessee of St. Paul. Funeral services for Polly Arnold will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, with Reverend Lee Kidd officiating. Committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood. Landon Fallin, 81, formerly of Montross, died on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004. Mr. Fallin was a retired real estate broker, a Marine veteran of World War II and the Korean War, a member of First Baptist Church of Charlottesville, past president of Annacostic Lions Club of Washington D.C., a member of Montross Landman Lodge AF & AM 293, Montross, Piedmont Shrine Club of ACCA Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Charlottesville, Scottish Rite Free Masonry, S.J. USA, Valley of the Washington Orient of District of Columbia, ALMAS Shrine’s A.A.O.N.M.S. of Washington, served as the chairman of the deacons of the Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church, Washington; a deacon of Currioman Baptist Church, Zacata, Va., and served as a board member of the Signet Bank. Survivors are his wife, Jessie M. Fallin; two sons, Stephen T. Fallin of Manassas, Va., and Leo Shipp of Front Royal, Va.; a daughter and her husband, Lisa L. Paddock and Jack of Camp Springs, Md.; two sisters, Flora Morrell of Annapolis, Md., and Mary V. Seitz of Virginia Beach, Va.; eight grandchildren, Rachel M. Sapperstein, Jessica Myers, Aimee Valltos, Timothy Spicer, Sonia Marie Hall, Landon Matthew Paddock, Landon Nathaniel Fallin Buell and Joshua Alexandria Fallin Buell; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Fallin was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Marie Fallin. "Bill" Greene, 63, 232 Walnut Grove Road, was called home to be with the Lord, Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at his residence. A native of Bristol Virginia, he was the son of the late Clay and Lillie Blevins Greene. He attended Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church and retired as a lineman from Jersey Central Power and Light in 1996. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Chinquapin Grove Ruritan Club. Mr. Greene was preceded in death by his first wife, Willonell Greene, and a son, Gregory Greene. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Greene of the home; two daughters and sons-in- law, Tracey and Jeff Mitchell, Bluff City, and Tammy and Randy Avery, Plano, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Allison Greene, Howell, N.J.; one granddaughter,, Casondra Mitchell, Bluff City; one sister, Patsy Rasnake, Bristol Tennessee; and one brother, Don Greene, Atlanta. The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at Tetrick Funeral Home-Bluff City Chapel, with Rev. Jerry Shaffer officiating. Osborne Sr. JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Arthur Franklin Osborne Sr., 72, 359 Cherokee Mountain Road, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at his residence. Mr. Osborne was a Russell County, Va., native and had lived most of his life in Washington County, Tenn. He was a son of the late George Washington Osborne and Clemie Tine Casey Osborne, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Virginia Osborne, and a favorite son-in-law, J.R. Shell. Mr. Osborne was retired from Harris Tarkett. He was a Baptist. Mr. Osborne is survived by three sons, Arthur Franklin Osborne Jr., Jonesborough, Danny Wayne Osborne, Hampton, and Dennis Allen Osborne, Jonesborough; one daughter, Mary Carolyn Osborne Shell, Roan Mountain; one brother, Claude Osborne, Jonesborough; three sisters, Clara Mae Hamm, Jonesborough, and Betty Ann Williamson and Frances Lyons, both of Johnson City; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Doris Jane Vance SWORDS CREEK, Va. – Mrs. Doris Jane Vance, age 72, passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, in a Richlands hospital. Born Dec. 24, 1932, in Russell County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Ola Compton Dye. She had spent most of her life in the area and was of the Baptist faith. She attended Dye Presbyterian Chapel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Mills, one stepson, Ronnie Vance, one brother, Cletis Dye, and one sister. Survivors include her husband, Golden Vance of the home; two stepsons, Lee Marteny of Norfolk, Va., and Radford Vance of Perrysville, Ohio; one brother, Donald Dye of Woodbridge, Va.; one half-brother, Harold Hess of Swords Creek; one half-sister, Freda Dye of Ohio; stepgrandson, Daniel Marteny; stepgranddaughter, Jessica Marteny; and several additional stepgrandchildren also survive.
