Bussey Sr. BRISTOL, Va. – Mr. Preston Leon Bussey Sr., age 65, passed away Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bussey was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va. , a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, Benhams, Va., and retired from Mid-Mountain Foods, with 16 years of service. Crissman, age 83, of Lewis Creek Road, passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 19, 2004, in a Lebanon nursing facility. Born March 11, 1921, in Honaker, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Mae Stump Crissman. He was a lifelong resident of the Honaker area and a member of the Honaker First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and served as Sunday School superintendant for many years. He was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of the Pruner Lodge 254 AF & AM of Honaker. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation with 43 years of service. Upon retirement, he served as a funeral assistant at Honaker Funeral Home for several years. Survivors include his wife, Mamie Stump Crissman of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Blevins of Lebanon and Mrs. Brenda Musick and her husband, Jim of Honaker; one son, Dr. James Crissman and his wife, Mary of Sycamore, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Virginia Russ of Hansonville, Va.; four grandchildren, Rev. DeBose Sr. Mr. David Belasco "Cuz" DeBose Sr., age 76, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at his home. Belasco was born July 15, 1928, in Saltville, to the late Robert Bruce and Kathleen Pope DeBose. He moved to Abingdon at an early age, where he remained until his death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Ritchie Swan. He was a devoted member of the Charles Wesley United Methodist Church, where he was chairman of the official board, chairman of the trustees and had a deep passion for the church’s upkeep. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Harriet Ann DeBose; his son, David Jr. and his wife Alecia; two granddaughters, Belicia and Dominique, all of Hampton, Va.; his sister, Katie DeBose of Abingdon; a brother in law, William E. Anderson of Abingdon; seven nieces; nine nephews; and numerous great-nieces, great- nephews and cousins. Sims, age 80, went to be with the Lord Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mr. Sims was a native of the Drill community of Russell County, Va. He was the son of the late Earl and Oma (Lowe) Sims. He was a resident of the Bristol area for the past 25 years and a retired coal miner with the Island Creek Coal Company with over 30 years of service. He had served 50 years in the Masonic Lodge, where he had obtained a 32nd Degree and he was a member of the Painter Creek Church of Christ. He was a sweet and loving father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed by his many, many friends. He also loved to fish and play music on his fiddle. He had fun telling his jokes and pulling pranks on people and he was so full of life. He was preceded in death by one son, Rodney Sims, one granddaughter, Lori Brewer, and one brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Frances Sims. Sproles, 87, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Indian Path Medical Center, Kingsport. He was born in Dante, Va., son of the late Charlie C. and Rebecca Sproles. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Dante. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Sproles. He is survived by one daughter, Donna Jo Hamblin of Bristol Virginia; two grandsons, Anthony James Austin and wife Allison of Limestone and Todd Raymond Hamblin of Bristol Virginia; one granddaughter, Tonya Rebecca Ingle and husband Jeff of Castlewood; five great-grandchildren, Travis Ingle, Dallas Ingle, Emily Austin, Nathaniel Austin and Kala Hamblin; and several nieces and nephews. Dwight Statzer BRISTOL – Dwight Statzer, 78, passed away Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at his daughter’s home. He was a native of Bristol Virginia and retired after 20 years of service from Bristol Virginia Utilities Board. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. He was of the Holiness faith and attended True Faith Tabernacle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jean Worley Statzer.
