Deloe WISE – Lucille McCoy Deloe, 78, passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at her home. She attended the Light House Church in Wise and the Esserville Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Leonard Cochran of Wise and Robert Androsko of Norton; four daughters, Christine Bise of Clintwood, Diane Peck of Norton and Nancy Vanover and Gladys Cochran, both of Wise; a brother, Sidney McCoy of North Carolina; four sisters, Maxie Cork of Missouri, Eula Butz and Claris Stark, both of Illinois, and Rethia McCoy of Castlewood; 10 grandchildren; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, in the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel, Wise, with the Rev. Jim Smith officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at the McCoy Cemetery, Dante, Va., with the Rev. Roger Barker officiating. Donald Dowell Sr. BRISTOL, Va. – Funeral service for Donald Melvin Dowell Sr. will be held Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Todd Crusenberry and Rev. Kenneth Widner officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery, with military honors to be presented by the Patton- Crosswhite VFW Post 6975. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Emmett L. Farmer ABINGDON – Mr. Emmett L. (Junior) Farmer, age 77, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born in West Virginia and had lived in Dungannon, Va., where he graduated from the Dungannon High School in 1946. He was U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II and graduated from ETSU in 1969. Emmett had lived in Abingdon the last 40 years, where he owned and operated Emits Family Restaurant for over 32 years before his retirement in 2003. He was a member of the Bethel Independent Baptist Church. Also, he was a member of the VFW Post 1994. He is survived by his wife, Carol Christine Gregory Farmer; his children, Vanessa Cummings and daughter, Lindsey, Tammy Salyer and children, Derek and Katie, all of Abingdon, Gregory L. Farmer and wife, Connie, and children, Cody L. and Haley, all of Christiansburg, Va., and Lonnie P. Farmer and wife, Rebecca, of Lebanon; and a special friend, Ernest Hart. A funeral service will be conducted Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at 2:30 p.m. in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, with Rev. John Massey officiating. Mary Marrow ABINGDON – Mary Will Hylemon Marrow, 84, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. She was the wife of Joe Marrow, who died in 1992, and a member of West Main Freewill Baptist Church in Abingdon. Surviving is a son, Wade Marrow of Tahoma, Calif.; a daughter, Dolly Jane Fleming of Clintwood; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville, N.C. The Rev. Keith Miller will officiate. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Tom Morrow Family Cemetery in Burnsville. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m Sunday at the funeral home. Judy Smith McIver Judy Smith McIver, 82, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, in Charlotte, N.C., at Sardis Oaks, after an extended illness. She was born April 8, 1922, in Bristol Tennessee, a daughter of the late Fred E. and Bessie A. Smith. She graduated from Bristol Tennessee High School and King College. She taught kindergarten and first grade in Bristol and was a children’s librarian at Elbert Ivey Library in Hickory, N.C. She enjoyed gardening and playing bridge and was an avid fan of Tar Heel basketball. She is survived by her husband, Donald McIver Jr. of Charlotte; daughter, Judith McIver Bost of Hickory; son, D. Gordon McIver of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and grandsons, Benjamin McIver Bost and wife, Catherine, of Hickory, Russell A. McIver and Andrew G. McIver of Lawrenceville. Her sisters, Dana S. Shipley, June S. Esser and Martha S. Wilson, preceded her in death. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. Everett Eugene "Buddy" Messer, 62, passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Elizabeth R. Shearer FALLS CHURCH, Va. – Elizabeth Rees Shearer, age 92, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, in Falls Church, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born in Clarendon, Va., the daughter of N.A. and Ella Rucker Rees, and was a graduate of George Washington University. She was married to the late Ross Shearer for 59 years. They made their home in Arlington, Va. Elizabeth was an active Baptist, serving on the SBC Foreign Mission Board, where she spearheaded changes to implement equality for women. She was a strong advocate for peace and justice on the national and international scene. She volunteered 25 years as an historic interpreter at Arlington House, the Custis-Lee Mansion. Elizabeth Rees Shearer is survived by two sons, Ross Shearer Jr. of Vienna and Rees Shearer and wife, Kathy, of Emory; and three grandchildren, Stephen Shearer of San Francisco, Corrine Shearer of Vienna and Daniel Shearer of Burlington, Vt. A memorial service will be held in Arlington on Nov. 6. Arlington Funeral Home is in charge.
