Alonzo Clawson JONESVILLE, Va. – Alonzo Clawson, age 83, of the Long Hollow community, passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at his home. He had been a resident of Lee County, Va., all his life and attended Mount Hope Baptist Church. He was a retired coal miner for the Westmoreland Coal Company, a veteran of World War II and a member of the Preston Masonic Lodge 47 of Jonesville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Clawson; his parents, Doc and Zella Clawson; three brothers, Adrian, Bob and Vance Clawson; and by one sister, Nell Allen. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, L.C. and Judy Clawson of Wise and Billy Wesley and Bessie Clawson of Church Hill, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Kimberley Clawson and Brandon Clawson of Church Hill and Mardy Clawson and wife Karen of Meadowview; one great-granddaughter, Kaitlin Clawson of Meadowview; two sisters, Jessie Smyth of Woodway, Va., and Ruby Jean Doss of Dayton, Ohio; three brothers, Leslie Clawson of Billwyn, Va., Norman Clawson of Dryden, Va., and Coy Clawson of Westland, Mich.; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Gurley Paul Harr BLOUNTVILLE – Gurley Paul Harr, age 84, passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, in Bristol Nursing Home. Mr. Harr was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and the son of the late Noah and Ida Ann Akard Harr. Mr. Harr had a great interest in Sullivan County genealogy. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he had served as Sunday School treasurer for over 50 years and was a member of the church choir. Mr. Harr retired in 1983 from Tennessee Eastman, with 42 years of service. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Lee Harr, and a daughter, Sara Ann Harr. Survivors include his wife, Edith Bowery Harr, and one daughter, Betty Smith and husband Randy of Blountville. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Jessica Smith and Zachary Smith. Mr. Jones was a retired brakeman for Clinchfield Coal Co. and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 1259. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Lucy Leonard Jones; three sisters, Anne Campbell, Peggy Wagner and Helen Bond; one brother, J.W. Jones Jr.; and his first wife, Jeanette Stapleton Jones. Survivors include his wife, Naomi L. Mullins APPALACHIA – Stephanie Ann Mullins, 29, was surrounded by her family when she went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004. Stephanie was an active member of Andover Methodist Church in Andover, Va., and was a former employee of American Health Care as regional director of admission. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, who touched many lives through her faith in Jesus Christ. Stephanie was preceded in death by grandparents, Pete and Adelene Fannon of Appalachia, and grandmother, Lottie Mullins of Wise. Surviving are her parents, Terry and Sherree Mullins of Appalachia; grandfather, Gilford Mullins of Wise; a sister and brother-in-law, Kristie and Mike Rowsey of Paducah, Ky.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and Renee Mullins and Brandon and Denise Mullins, all of Big Stone Gap; one special sister, Heather Young of Appalachia; several nieces and nephews, whom she adored, Teryn, Tessa and Cole Mullins of Big Stone Gap, Trey Peace and Belle Rowsey of Paducah and Dakota Rowsey of Washington; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Born on June 4, 1942, in Washington County, Va., Peggy was a daughter of the late Sandoe Kennedy Jr. and Maxine Mitchell Kennedy. Peggy was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Monica Kennedy, a brother, Walter Kennedy, and a sister, Frances Wise. She attended Calvary Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Hulen W. Thomas; a daughter, Peggy Holzer and husband Robert of Abingdon; two sons, Mickey W. Thomas and wife Tina of Bristol and Jeffrey L. Local 1259. He attended Esther Memorial United Methodist Church. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Kenneth Wampler. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Cox Wampler; a son, Rick Wampler, Castlewood; his father, Ernest L.
