He was a native of Richmond and had lived in Shady Valley for the past 17 years. He was the son of Henry Slemp Baumgardner and Edith Bernice Parks Baumgardner. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robin Justin Baumgardner, and maternal grandparents, Clarence and Myrtle Parks. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Anita Marlene Baumgardner; four sons, Andrew Baumgardner, Anthony Baumgardner, Aaron Sluder and Adam Sluder; and a special nephew, Tyler Hall, all of the home; two brothers, Kenny Baumgardner and wife, Sherry, of Abingdon and Glen Baumgardner and wife, Tammy, of Bristol Tennessee; paternal grandparents, Slemp Baumgardner and Ruth Baumgardner of Abingdon; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Roy and Dorothy Wallace of Shady Valley; and several nieces and nephews. Richardson, and a brother, Reaves "Buddy" Wheeler. She was retired assistant director of nursing at Bristol Memorial Hospital for many years and for the last three years at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church and was first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, having served during World War II in the Army Nursing Corps. She is survived by a daughter, Linda S. Dennie Ray Leonard Mr. Dennie Ray Leonard, age 56, of the Upper Big Branch section of Dismal, passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, following an injury sustained in a mining accident. Born in Mercer County, W.Va., he was the son of Pattie Mae Vandyke Leonard of Patterson and the late Matoka Edward Leonard. Dan was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church in Pound, was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Wise County Shrine Club. Dan was born June 27, 1936, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was retired from several businesses that he had owned and operated. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. His parents, Bascom and Beulah Mullins, and one sister, Evelyn Idema, preceded him in death. He was a lifelong resident of the Tazewell County area and was a 1981 Richlands High School graduate. He loved to raise and ride his horses and spending time outdoors. He especially loved spending time and doing things with his children, family and friends. James A. Wampler James Anderson Wampler, age 81, of 6008 Old Jonesboro Road, passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was born in Norton and was the son of the late John Sevier and Lillian Wolfe Wampler of Bristol. He was reared in Bristol, where he attended the public schools and was a graduate of Virginia High School. He received his college education at V.P.I. and the University of Richmond. As a youth, he was active in the Boy Scouts and was a member of the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps in Bristol. During World War II, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and became the pilot of a B-24 Bomber. He flew combat missions over Germany as a member of the Eighth Air Force in England. After the war, he was active in veterans’ affairs and served as commander of the James C. Brewer Post of the American Legion in Bristol. For many years, Mr. Wampler was associated with his father and brothers in the retail furniture and carpet business in Bristol. In recent years, he became a respected home builder in Bristol and upper East Tennessee. For more than 50 years, he and his wife were faithful members of Central Presbyterian Church in Bristol, where he served as chairman of the Board of Deacons. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patsy Peavler Wampler; a daughter, Rebecca Fulton Wampler and husband, Steven M. Albin, of Knoxville; two sons, James A. Wampler Jr. and wife, Betty A. Wampler, of Bristol and John Nathan Wampler and wife, Sharon Wampler, of Knoxville; a grandson, who was the "apple of his eye," William James Meese, also of Knoxville; two brothers, John S.
