She was a caretaker in the area for many years and enjoyed doing things for other people, such as helping those who needed her. Ella Bowers Ella Lucille Oliver Bowers, age 82, went to be with the Lord Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 19, 1922, in Benhams, Va., to the late George and Mary Boling Black, and has lived her life in the Bristol area. She was a homemaker and was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clifford Oliver; her second husband, Stanley Bowers; a son, Anthony Oliver; and a sister, Willie Joe Deskins. Mr. Garrett had coached Little League baseball, was a Boy Scout leader for several years, an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and hunter, had excelled in archery and was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church. Mr. Parks was a native of Bristol Virginia, and had spent most of his life in the Bristol area. He was the son of the late Carl and Maudie Kate (Brown) Parks. He was a hunting and bow instructor for the TWRA for 15 years and had won the Hunting Instructor of the Year in 1986 and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by one sister, Kitty L. Jefferie; three brothers, Robert Franklin Parks, Joe Gordan Parks and Raymond J. Parks. Survivors include his wife, Karin C. Parks, and their son, S. Fifth St., formerly of Cedar Bluff, Va., died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at her residence. She was born in Pounding Mill, Va., and was a daughter of the late John B. and Uva Steele Gillespie, both Tazewell County natives. Catherine taught first grade for many years. She was a graduate of Richlands High School, received an associate’s degree from Farmville State Teacher’s College and began her career more than 65 years ago in a two-room school in Steelesburg. More than three decades later, she completed a bachelor’s degree at Radford College. She was a lifelong member of Cedar Bluff Presbyterian Church and was the first woman to serve the church as an elder. Catherine married William Scott Warner when he returned from serving in World War II and they made their home in Cedar Bluff. She kept voluminous journals and was an avid gardener and cook. Her lemon lilies and her potato yeast rolls are legends in her family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jane Gordanier. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mary Catherine Warner and husband, Steve MacDonald, of Harrisburg, Mrs. Wilma Susan Daniels and husband, Dean, of Blackstone, Va., and Mrs. Uva Steele Stanley and husband, John, of Orange, Va.; one sister, Uva Frey of Berryville, Va.; five grandchildren, Amy Wilson, Charlie Wilson, John MacDonald, Will Stanley and Joe Stanley; and two great- grandchildren also survive. He was a native of Washington County, Va., and was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Blanche Widner, a special friend, Lucille Eades, and three brothers. Survivors include his brothers, Coy Widner and wife Barbara and Frank Widner and wife Carol, all of Bristol Tennessee, and David Widner and wife Carol, Clyde Widner, Gary Bebber and Chester Widner and wife Tammy, all of Abingdon; his sisters, Betty Snyder and husband Dean, Shady Valley, Tenn., Sally McClure, Bristol Virginia, Bonnie Wilson and husband Dean, Abingdon and Charlie "Peanut" Wright and husband, Donald, Abingdon; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Greenwood Cemetery, with Rev. Mark Baumgardner officiating. Interment will follow. Pallbearers will be Gary Bebber, Dean Wilson, Lenwood Wilson, Jessie Roe, Chris Rust and Randy Fritz. Honorary pallbearers will be Timmy Fritz and Mike Norris. Wilson ABINGDON, Md. – Beulah Marion Wilson died Sept. 15, 2004, at Lorien Nursing Home in Riverside, Md. She was 77. She was born October, 1926. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Henry of Danville, Va.; a sister, Betty Ruth Dubiel of Edgewood; a brother, Franklin T. Hackney of Franklin, Va.; one granddaughter; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Lee Wilson, and her parents, Clarence A. Hackney and Vivian Shackleford. A graveside service will be held at Highland Cemetery in Danville on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at 2 p.m.
