Mrs. Bales was born on Oct. 1, 1910, in Scott County, Va., to the late Frank and Susan Shaffer Frazier. She had lived all her life in the Bristol area, was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Bales was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Bales. Mrs. Bales is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Dorton of Blountville, and one granddaughter, Michelle Dorton of Blountville. Graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Glenwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Jack Stevens officiating. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home. Nellie Mae Blevins DAMASCUS – Nellie Mae Blevins, age 80, passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at her residence. She was born in Stotesbury, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Bill and Callie Eller Hayes. Mrs. Blevins had lived in Baltimore for several years, before moving to Damascus in 1975. She was of the Baptist faith and was the widow of Ernest Blevins. She is survived by one son, Roy D. Blevins and his wife, Debbie, of Nitro, W.Va.; one daughter, Sheila Blevins Roark of Damascus; two sisters, Juanita Blevins of Shady Valley, Tenn., and Ruby Botts of Damascus; four grandchildren, Jeff Roark, Nikki Roark, Doug Blevins and Brian Blevins; three great- grandchildren, Brandon Doss, Ethan Roark and Thomas Roark; and several nieces and nephews. Henry Lee Collins RICHLANDS – Mr. Henry Lee Collins, age 75, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, in Lewis Gale Hospital in Roanoke, following a brief illness. Born in Yukon, W.Va., he was the son of the late Morris and Ora Bell Smith Collins. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict. Henry was a minister with the Assembly of God and was chaplain of the Good Samaritan Food Pantry in Richlands. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Henry served on the Richlands Town Council since 1990 and was vice mayor of the Town of Richlands. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Morris Harold Collins and Don Collins, and one sister, Margaret Elizabeth Herron. Mrs. Dutton was a member of the Washington County Retired Teachers and was a life member of the Virginia PTA. She taught school in Washington County for many years and was a member of the Meadowview Home Extension Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ernest Dutton, and a daughter, Margaret Robinette. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was one of the oldest members of Bascom United Methodist Church and a former Sunday School teacher. She was a 1943 graduate of Lebanon High School. Mrs. Salyer was born in Jonesville, Va., on Sept. 8, 1911, the daughter of Everett Bruce and Odessa Smith Jones. She was the oldest living member of Cassidy Methodist Church, a member of the Women’s Society and the Josie Mackay Bible Class. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Salyer was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Luther E. Salyer, three brothers, Marshall Jones, Smith Jones and Kenneth Jones, and one sister, Pauline Simonds. Stringer, 78, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004. She was a longtime member of Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church in Bristol. Mrs. Stringer was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, J.B. and Kernie Anderson. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Clyde A. Stringer; twin daughters, Peggy Heath and husband Kelly and Libby Hoskins and husband Claud, all of Bristol; one son, Ed Stringer and wife Cindy of Marion; four grandchildren, Charles Stringer, Christie Grumbos, Angela Dannhardt and Seth Stringer; three great-grandchildren; her best friend of 60 years, Bernice Crowe; brothers, Denver Anderson and Lynn Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, with Rev. H. Malcolm Wansley officiating.
