Cook Addison, 93, Mavisdale, Va. Billy Roger Boyd, 63, Honaker King McGlothlin, 85, Abingdon Martha Bell Hunt Buchanan Surber, 84, Abingdon Snoda Addison MAVISDALE, Va. – Mrs. Snoda B. Cook Addison, age 93, passed away Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at her home. She was born on Sept. 25, 1911, in Cleveland, Va., and was the daughter of the late Isaac Newton and Elizabeth Street Cook. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family in her generation. She was a faithful member of the Garden United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend to all. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Addison; two grandsons, Ricky Stanley and David Addison; one great-grandson, Brandon Keefer; two brothers, Edd Cook and Arthur Cook; five sisters, Bertha Horne, Bernie Horne, Stella Ratliff, Ida Martin and an infant sister, Marie. Mrs. Addison is survived by three sons, Donald Addison and wife Mildred of Arcola, Va., Joe Addison of Vansant, Va., and Leslie Addison and wife Betty of Forest, Va.; three daughters, Meryl Woods and husband Oakley of Mavisdale, Elizabeth Andriuk and husband Andy of Centerville, Va., and Sue Swaim and husband Mark of Berkley Springs, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Steve Stanley, Teresa Carter, Carey Addison, Cindy Kearney, Melissa Hess, Shelia McDonald and Angela Brumbaugh; and 15 great-grandchildren. Surviving, in addition to her children, are Bill Cook, Jim Cook, Jack Cook, Perry Cook, Ann Cook and Nell Hurt, children of her brother and sister-in-law, Edd and Mary Cook, that she considered as her children too. Funeral services for Mrs. Snoda B. Cook Addison will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, in the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain, Va., with Rev. Ray Amos, Rev. Paul McNally and Rev. Ancil Childress officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill, Va. Billy Roger Boyd HONAKER – Mr. Billy Roger Boyd, age 63, of the Drill section, passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, in a Grundy hospital. Born Oct. 9, 1941, in Richlands, he was a son of the late Charles and Ollie Brown Boyd. He was a 1959 graduate of Richlands High School and was in the military police with the U.S. Army. He had resided in the Drill area for the past 37 years and was employed as a truck driver with Claude V. Keen Trucking Company. Survivors include his wife, Eura Penley Boyd of the home; two daughters, Pamela Glovier of Lebanon and Jennifer Short of Honaker; three sons, Christopher Boyd and Zachary Boyd, both of the home, and Jonathan Boyd of Lebanon; one sister; five brothers; one grandson, Hunter Short; one son-in-law, Rusty Short; special friend, Doug Lowe; and two special brothers-in-law, Pete Penley and Don Penley. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, with Donald Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Austin Cemetery at Venia, Va. Flanagan BRISTOL, Tenn. – Anne Frances Flanagan, age 84, formerly of Belmont Drive, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville, Ky. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter to the late James and Margaret Dunn Smith. Mrs. Flanagan was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Flanagan. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Mrs. Flanagan started swimming competitively in her 60s and won many medals in the Tennessee State Senior Games. She qualified for six National Senior Games and competed in four. Survivors include a daughter, Mary E. Henn and husband, Ted, of Louisville; grandchildren, Anne Compton of Seattle and Michael Compton of Louisville; a sister, Sister Mary Thomasina of New York. Funeral Mass will be conducted on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at noon at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, with Father Timothy Keeny, celebrant, officiating. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Lilly was a former member of North Bristol Baptist Church and a current member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Lilly, of Abingdon; one sister, Betty Rector of Bristol Virginia; one brother, David Burnette of Bristol Tennessee; a first cousin, Jim Cadle of Bristol Tennessee; two double-first cousins, Butch Shelton of Bristol Virginia and Jerry Shelton of Memphis; two grandchildren, Austin and Matney Lilly; and several nephews and other cousins. King McGlothlin ABINGDON – Mr. King McGlothlin, age 85, formerly of the Fletchers Ridge section of Rowe, Va., went home to his heavenly father Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, in a Abingdon hospital. Born June 20, 1919, in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Jacob and Vinnie Ray McGlothlin. He was a lifelong resident of the Buchanan County area and had made his home with his daughter in Abingdon for the past three years. He was a member of the Fletcher’s Ridge Primitive Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Compton McGlothlin; one son, Sherman McGlothlin; one great-grandson; John Edward Maggard; one sister, Gracie McGlothlin; and four brothers, Elbert McGlothlin, Larkin McGlothlin, Andrew McGlothlin and Elden McGlothlin. In his generation, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Phil Lowe of Abingdon, Doris and Steve McNulty of Honaker and Rita and Charlie Barrett of Kingsport; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bernard and Lois McGlothlin of Vansant, James and Brenda McGlothlin of Meadowview and Loyal and Pam McGlothlin of Honaker; seven grandsons, Richard McGlothlin, Phil McGlothlin, Daniel McGlothlin, Bradley McGlothlin, Jordan McGlothlin, Gabe McGlothlin and Dewayne Hale; four granddaughters, Andrea Maggard, Alicia Woodward, Selina McGlothlin and Amelia McGlothlin; seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, with Elder Don Stacy, Elder Bobby Arrington and Elder Elmer Gene Compton.
