Mrs. Vada Mary (Breedlove) Hale, age 89, formerly of Swords Creek, Va., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at home, after an extended illness. Sandra Kay Heaton DANTE, Va. – Sandra Kay Heaton, 60, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol Tennessee. She was born in Dickenson County, Va., daughter of the late Ed and Gracie Dorcas Powers Rasnick Sr. She lived her childhood and adult life in Dante. She was preceded in death by one sister, Janice LaForce, and two brothers, Thomas and Mitchell Rasnick. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Fred Heaton of the home; two sons, Timothy Heaton of Bristol Tennessee and Marty Heaton of Dante; two brothers, Ed Rasnick Jr. of Lebanon and Donald Rasnick of Bristol Tennessee; four grandchildren, Audrey Heaton, Joshua Heaton, Hannah Heaton and Lauren Compton; and 21 nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Sandra Kay Heaton will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, with Rev. Leonard Ferguson and the Rev. Hickman, 77, passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 2004. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1949, and was retired from Tennessee Eastman Company, after 36 years of service. Mr. Hickman was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the VFW. He was an avid golfer. His mother and father, Lee and Viola Hickman, preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Frances Hickman of the home; one daughter and son-in- law, Cyndee and Carlyle Rees, Harmony community; one son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Pam Webb, Kingsport; three grandchildren, Terence Webb, Trever Rees and Laura Rees; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Sandra Hickman, Piney Flats, and Herschel and Joyce Hickman, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; one niece, Susan Paris and husband, Sam, Franklin, Tenn.; and two great-nieces, Annie and Lily Paris. Ruth Hall Hobson ABINGDON – Mrs. Ruth Hall Hobson, age 91, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. Born on Oct. 17, 1913, in Floyd County, Ky., Ruth was a daughter of the late John Hall and Armina Frasure Hall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kit Carson Hobson; her brothers, Parrott Hall and Tivis Hall; and her sisters, Mary Newman, Frances Williams and Betty Scoles. Ruth was a retired school teacher, having taught many years in Buchanan County, Va., and Kentucky school systems. She was the recipient of the Teacher of the Year award. Ruth was a member of the North Bristol Baptist Church and was a former member of the Vansant Baptist Church in Buchanan County. Ruth was a very active church member and showed her support for her church by teaching Sunday School for many years and volunteering with the Baptist Women’s Group. Survivors include a brother, Walker Hall of Spring Hill, Fla.; several brothers- in-law and sisters-in-law; as well as several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, with Rev. Jody Breeding officiating. Lowe BLACKSBURG, S.C. – Mrs. Kathleen Horton Lowe, age 74, of 514 Tribal Road, formerly of Raven, Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at a Gaffney, S.C., nursing home. She was born in Raven, and was a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Pearl McGlothlin Horton. She lived in Virginia most of her life and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Jesse J. Lowe, one sister, Leona Lowe, and three brothers, Winfred, Ralph and Larry Horton. Survivors are one son, Mr. Jesse J. Lowe Jr. of Butler, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Lorraine Bales of Swords Creek, Va., Mrs. Arnette Vipperman of Blacksburg and Mrs. Pearl Horton of Blacksburg; one brother, Mr. Donald Horton of Swords Creek; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two stepgreat- grandchildren also survive. Jack Junior Lynthlin CLEVELAND, Va. – Jack Junior Lynthlin, 54, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004. Born in Russell County on March 3, 1950, he was the son of the late Walter and Maddlene Vance Lynthlin. He was a lifelong resident of Russell County and worked at Tri-County Tire in St. Paul, Va. In addition to his parents, one brother, "Boo" Franklin Lynthlin, and one sister, Dixie Hamilton, also precede him in death. Survivors include his wife, Theresa Lynthlin; daughter, Janet Perkins and husband Carlos of Dante, Va.; son, Daniel Junior Lynthlin and wife Pamela of Lebanon; brothers, Roger Lynthlin and Howard Lynthlin, both of Cleveland; sister, Lettie T. Sweatt of Alabama; grandchildren, Cody, Matthew and Jack Lynthlin, all of Lebanon; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Franklin Miller Sr. CHILHOWIE – Franklin Brent Miller Sr., age 86, passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, in the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol Tennessee. He was born in Ashe County, N.C., to the late Samuel Garfield Miller and Martha (Mattie) Caudill Miller, and was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Joy Barr Miller, a sister, Vesta Wilson, and two brothers, Earl Kermit Miller and Deward B. Miller. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army/Air Corps, having served in World War II. He was a member of the Midway Chapel and the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. He was the owner and operator of Miller’s Place in Chilhowie for over 40 years. Survivors: one son, Franklin Brent Miller Jr., Chilhowie; one daughter, Joyce Davidson, Seven Mile Ford; one sister, Francis June Buchanan, Marion; three grandchildren, Steven A. Davidson, David C. Davidson and Joseph Paul Miller; and several other special family members also survive.
