Born Sept. 6, 1931, in Buchanan County, Va., he was a son of the late Allen and Ethel Harris Ball. A lifelong resident of the Buchanan County area, he was a retired coal miner employed by Clinchfield Coal Company and a member of the UMWA Local 1452. He was a member of the Bee Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Dallas Wayne Ball, three sisters, Phyllis Rasnake, Virginia Ball and Carmie Ball, and one brother, Elmer Ball. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Beulah Bostic Ball of the home; four daughters, Cathy Ray and her husband Russell of Hurricane Creek, Va., Carol Ball of Council, Rita Hale and her husband Mickey of Belfast, Va., and Iva Dean Hess of Council; three sons, Lester Ball and wife Ruth of Honaker, Lloyd Ball and wife Jeanette of Connelley Springs, N.C., and Gary Ball and wife Paula of Council; one sisters, Jearleen Ball of Lebanon; two brothers, Rev. He was born at North Tazewell, Va., lived in Chesapeake, Va., and lived the rest of his life in Wise County, Va. He was a U.S. Marine veteran and was a graduate of Nashville Auto/Diesel College. He was a co-founder of the Valley Fire Department and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Big Stone Gap. Frankie was also a member of the International Order of the Moose. He was the equipment superintendent for Barnettte Contractors, Wise. He was a son of the late William "Bill" Boothe and Hettie Brewster Boothe, and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Stella Lambert and Mary Hall, and by four brothers, James C. Boothe, Harold Boothe, Roy Boothe and George Boothe. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Meda Whitten Boothe, Big Stone Gap; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and George Barton, Big Stone Gap; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Gloria Boothe, Weaverville, N.C.; five grandchildren, Christy Barton and Chesney Barton, Caleb Boothe, Eli Boothe and Molly Boothe; two sisters, Euva Walbeck, Brookesville, Fla., and Mallie White, Whiteville, N.C.; a brother, Bill Boothe, Tazewell; special friend, George Barnette, Wise; childhood friend, James Ramey, Princeton, W.Va.; neighbor and close friend, Terry Dickenson, Big Stone Gap; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was a self-employed roofer and trucker and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Mack Chapman. Harkleroad Estil Lewis (Harkie) Harkleroad, age 84, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was both an Army and Navy veteran of World War II. He was a 35-year member of Pipe Fitters and Steam Fitters Union Local 538, and was a retired employee of Bristol Metals. He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Alice Harkleroad, daughter, Deborah Harkleroad Crain, and brother, Clarence Harkleroad. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Viola Reed Harkleroad. Allene was a former member of the Church of God of Prophecy and a current member of the Wayside Temple. She was a loving Christian mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a "mom" to everyone who passed over her doorstep. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy Henry Steele; two brothers, Claude Harris and Bill Harris; three sisters, Hattie Lee Price, Lola Harris and Lenora Harris; and one daughter-in-law, Hazel Steele. Viers Jr., age 78, of 136 Cedar Road, went to be with the Lord Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Wellmont Hospice House. Charles W. Wilson GLADE SPRING – Charles William Wilson, MSGT, USAF (Ret.), age 72, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born on Jan. 1, 1932, in Washington County, Va., Charles was a son of the late Emmett Grant Wilson and Mary Ann Moody Wilson. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Hawkins, and fourteen brothers and sisters. Mr. Wilson was retired from the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant. He had a total of 22 years military service, having originally served two years in the U.S. Army and then transferring to the U.S. Air Force, where served 20 years. He had received several medals, campaign ribbons and awards. He had served faithfully in the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He had also retired from the Southwestern State Mental Health Hospital in Marion and had served as an instructor at Virginia Highlands Community College in the air conditioning and refrigeration studies course. He was of the Southern Baptist Faith. He was an avid outdoorsman and his favorite activities were hunting, fishing and traveling. Charles is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diane Brown Wilson; a son, Ronald Wilson and wife Jo Ann; daughters, Tammy Wilson of the home, Ruth Ernest of Marion and Charlene Bobbitt and husband Douglas; his brother, Frank Wilson of Spokane, Wash.; his sisters, Betty Churchill and Geneva Wilson, both of Modesto, Calif.; his grandchildren, Michael Hawkins, Travis Hawkins, Charles Jason Ernest, Justin Wilson, Michael Ernest, Kelsey Wilson, Joey Blevins and Andrea Blevins; a special hunting buddy, Michael Blevins; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring, with Rev. Mark Ross officiating. Military graveside rites will be provide by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard Detail from Pope Air Force Base. Honorary casket bearers will be Andrew Blevins, Raydel Wilson, Michael Blevins, Doug Bobbitt, Michael Hawkins, Travis Hawkins, Jason Ernest, Justin Wilson and Joey Blevins.
