Charles Allen Deel VANSANT, Va. – Charles Allen Deel, 68 years of age, passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in the Baptist Hospital, Winston Salem, N.C. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Charlie Deel and Patty Keen Deel. He was a member of the Little Martha Old Regular Baptist Church, a retired coal miner, loving father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Deel, on Dec. 16, 2003, two sisters, four brothers and one granddaughter, Miranda Sue Deel. He is survived by three daughters, Brenda Gail Deel Mullins and husband Richard Carl of Maxton, N.C., Linda Gay Deel Wright and husband Roy Lewis of North Augusta, S.C., and Barbara Allan Deel Helton and husband Samuel Dean of Mocksville, N.C.; one son, Gary Dale Deel and wife Susan of Lebanon; two brothers, Tommy Deel of Oakwood, Va., and Lee Deel of Vansant. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a member of Hood Memorial AME Zion Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Kate Gudger; his son, Jessie C. Gudger Jr.; his daughter, Joan R. Bussey; and his brothers, James W. Gudger and Fred D. Gudger. Clarence D. Harr Clarence Dulaney "C.D." Harr, age 77, went to be with the Lord Friday evening, Nov. 26, 2004, in NHC HealthCare of Bristol after a period of declining health. He was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County. He was the son of the late Clarence Earl "Earl C." and Ella Clark Harr. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Donna Lynn Harr, and a son, Michael Edwin Harr, who died in Vietnam. Mr. Harr served four years in the U.S. Navy. Following his return from service, he was employed at Kyle Motor Company in Bristol for a number of years. He then became a partner in Shankle-Harr Garage and later becoming owner/operator, where he worked until his retirement. He was a member of Blountville Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, superintendent of Sunday School, choir member, treasurer, deacon and elder. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dorothy "Dot" B. Wills Harr; three sisters and husbands, Lucille and Grover Winegar, Sue and Fred Wagner and Ann and Charles Mays, all of Blountville; five brothers and wives, Herman and Betty Harr, Wayne and Vivian Harr and Jerry and Rebecca Harr, all of Blountville, Willard and Jerrie Harr, Centerville, Md., and Dale and Virginia Harr, Kingsport. He was the owner and manager of Don’s Kwik Stop and was the manager of Slagle’s Supermarket for many years. Tolliver MARION – Howard James Tolliver, age 89, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, in Fairfax, Va. He was born in Troutdale to the late John and Charity Blevins Tolliver and was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita J. Tolliver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, and was the recipient of several medals of valor. Survivors include one son, James A. Tolliver; one daughter, Pam Tolliver Childs; grandchildren, Stephanie Tolliver, Catherine Tolliver, Will Childs III and Tyler Anne Childs.
