Cook BRISTOL, Tenn. – Our loving momma, Mattie Catherine Cook, went home to be with her Lord at 6 o’clock Sunday morning, Nov. 28, 2004, at her home. She was born in St. Joseph, Mo., on Sept. 17, 1917, to the late Joe and Rosie Little Fauver. Her family came to Tennessee when she was two years old in a covered wagon, with a herd of turkey. She was the widow of John H. Cook Sr. and the mother of 16 children; 50 grandchildren; 101 great-grandchildren; 20 plus great-great- grandchildren; and 28 stepgrandchildren to whom her heart and home were always open. She was a charter member of Liberty Baptist Church in Bristol, where she attended faithfully as long as she was able. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Cook Sr.; one son, Kermit Cook; several grandchildren; three brothers, Andrew Fauver, John W. Fauver and Charlie Fauver; and two sisters, Dora Harr and Susie Hatcher. Survivors include nine sons and six daughters, Lester Cook and Paula of Kingsport, Christine Lory and Chuck of McEwen, Tenn., John H. Cook Jr. and Shirley of Blountville, Dorcus Rosenbaum and Stanley of Blountville, Clara Craig and Joe of Bristol Tennessee, Douglas M. Cook and Jessie of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Roy Cook and Bobbie of Sparta, Tenn., Deborah Cornett and Jessee of Cunningham, Tenn., Dan Cook of Oak Ridge, Graham Cook and Mary of LaVergne, Tenn., David Cook and Charlotte of Blountville, Marie Morrell and Kevin of Bluff City, Tommy Cook and Connie of Bristol Tennessee, Calvin Cook and Donna of Bristol Tennessee and Alice Hunsucker and David of Blountville; her grandchildren; great- grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Bill Harr of the home, Ester Day and Pauletta Frye, a very special friend and care giver who was sent from God and whom we all love and appreciate; and one sister-in-law, Carrie Cook of Lenoir, N.C. Born at Floyd, Va., she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. D.H. Poff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin Poff and James Poff, and two sisters, Myrtle Williams and Ora Albert. She was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Woodrow Dailey; two sons, Richard Dailey and wife Diana of Richlands and Melvin (Bill) Dailey and wife Deborah of Sebring, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Lucy Smith of Chattanooga; four grandchildren, Nicole Dailey, Ryan Dailey, Beth Tiller and husband Roger and Dr. Kay Dales and husband Dr. Joe Dales; three great-grandchildren, Brianna Tiller, Joey Dales and Zachery Dales also survive. Helton, age 83, of the Garden Creek section, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at his home, following a long illness. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, Va., and was the son of the late Jessie and Nancy Jane Childress Helton. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. Local 1374 and was employed for 36 years by Beatrice Pocahontas Mine at Oakwood. He was of the Old Regular Baptist faith. He left behind a very loving caregiver, Lisa Helton (granddaughter); a host of friends and loved ones and a special friend, Terry Looney of Vansant, Va., who was faithful to the end with his visits and ministering to Elijah, as well as the whole family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mable Ann Ratliff Helton, and five grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family in his generation.
