He was the son of the late Henry Frank and Julie Anne White Harless. Jim was a member and trustee of Temple Baptist Church and had attended Shiloh Baptist Church and Palestine Baptist Church. He was a member of the Abingdon Masonic Lodge 48, the Abingdon Chapter of the Eastern Star 182, the Bellwash Chapter of the Eastern Star 65 and the James E. Peters Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans 57. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Jim had served on the Washington County Planning Commission and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Brown during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59˝ years, Irene Steagall Harless, and a son, James Gilbert Harless. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed. Musick, age 90, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Maple Grove Rehabilitation Center. Born Sept. 21, 1914, in Russell County, a son of the late Tollie R. Musick and Allie Musick, he was the loving husband of 64 years to the late Beulah H. Musick. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. As a child, he came with his parents to the farm of his grandfather, Abel Musick, a homesteader, on Buffalo Mountain in the Weavers Creek section of the county. He lived there until recently when he moved to Spring City two years ago because of declining health. He attended Weavers Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Norma M. Kiser and husband Harry T. of Powhatan, Va.; and four sons. Ellis Carlton Musick and wife Della of Blountville, Roger Daniel Musick and wife Shirley, Abingdon, Cecil Bradley Musick and wife Linda of Cleveland and Walter Virgil Musick and wife Lois, Castlewood. He is also survived by his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and extended family, Darren Kiser, Angie and Ricky and Mark and Donna Davis, all of Powhatan, Tim and April Musick, Adam, Sarah and Jack Musick, all of Blountville, Sabina Musick, Kingsport and her fiance, Rodney Hudson, North Carolina, Josh and Erica Musick, Plain City, Ohio, Daniel and Serena Musick and Molly and Zack, all of Abingdon, Michael and Marjorie Musick, Dulles, Va., Melody Musick, Knoxville, Becky Leonard and Seth, Greg Dye, Jacob and Jennifer Musick and Christian, all of Lebanon, and Robin and Todd Brendel and Joey and Erin Kay, all of Monterey, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Born Dec. 30, 1933, in Towson, Md., to the late Frank and Nona Wastler Peters, he was a faithful member of The Church of God, Friendly Circle, Marion. Mr. Peters was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served in the U.S. Army, where he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, and was a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. Mr. Peters was a retired Smyth County school bus driver and an excellent craftsman and woodworker. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Haga Peters of Sugar Grove; two sons and daughters-in-law, C. Ernie Jr. and Kathy Peters of Sugar Grove and C. Bruce and Cindy Peters of Emory, Va.; one sister, Jane E. Colley of Edgewood, Md.; two grandchildren, Pete Peters III and Heather Peters; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Richardson DAMASCUS – Maudie Ann Richardson, age 88, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon. She was a native of Ashe County, N.C., and lived in Green Cove, Va., before moving to Damascus, where she had lived most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Ambrose and Minnie Rhoten Lewis.
