She was a retired registered nurse and a member of the Birchfield Baptist Church, Pound, Va. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Baker, and preceded in death by four brothers, Alvin Baker, Earlin Baker and Vernard Baker all of Pound, and Winfred Baker of Bristol Virginia; and a sister, Alverda Lee of Norton. Surviving are her brother, Lester Baker of Pound; four nephews, Kenneth Baker of Merritt Island, Fla., Samuel Baker and Leon Baker, both of Bristol Virginia, and Danny Baker of Pound; eight nieces, Margaret Ann Baker of Knoxville, Imogene Carter of Merritt Island, Violet Clark of Wise, Muriel Cantrell of Pound, Betty Jessee of Ypsilanti, Mich., Patricia Learner of York, Pa., Marlene Matthews of Appomattox, Va., and Ann Lee of Idaho. Silas Lee Brown Jr. CEDAR BLUFF – Mr. Silas Lee Brown Jr., age 89, passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in Tazewell Community Hospital, following a long illness. He was a lifelong resident of Cedar Bluff and was the son of the late Silas Lee Brown Sr. and Mary Jane Hall Brown. He was retired from the Norfolk & Western Railroad and was a member of the Cedar Bluff Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Dunn Brown, two brothers, William Alexander Brown and Charlie Brown, and four sisters, Margaret Smith, Annie Dawson, Alverda Corder and Francis Widner. Mr. Brown is survived by one son, David Lee Brown and wife Mary Jane of North Tazewell, Va.; one daughter, Mary Margaret Trent and husband Timothy of Cedar Bluff; one sister, Mrs. Rudolph (Bessie Blake) Whitt of Cedar Bluff; five grandchildren, Lee Brown and wife Mary Beth of Bluefield, Va., Bradley Brown and wife Jessica of Pounding Mill, Va., and John-Walker Trent, Caitlin Trent and Levi Trent, all of Cedar Bluff; four great-grandchildren, Andrew Brown, Mallory Brown, Wesley Brown and Emmalyn Brown; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Born on May 19, 1913, in Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late Carson and Myrtle Tate Bevins. Wanda retired from Chrysler "Amplex Plant," after 25 years of loyal service. She blessed the lives of many people throughout her lifetime and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She will forever live in their hearts. In addition to her parents, her cousin, Carl Tate, also preceded her in death. Wanda was like a mother to her special friends and neighbors of 21 years, Garry and Betty Gulliver; and was like a grandmother to Beth and Shannon Gulliver and Brian and Mary Gulliver, all of Belleville. Four cousins also survive her, Betty White of Canton, Mich., Dorothy Tate of Clear, Va., Virginia Colley of Porter, Va., and Ferne Pate of Bloomfield Hills, Mich. She was a graduate of Inez High School in Inez, Ky., and made her home Kermit, W.Va., most of her life, moving to the Belfast area nine years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Claypool Hill Bible Church. Survivors are her husband, Mr. Franklin D. He enjoyed history and writing and had written for Formula One Racing. Mr. Williams was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area, was the son of the late Cody and Hattie Gross Williams, and was of the Baptist faith.
