Finney Jr., 79, of 807 Airport Road, Bristol, Va., died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mr. Finney was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Lebanon and had made his home in the Bristol area since 1941. He was the owner and operator of Finney and Finney Construction Co., a member of Belle Meadows Baptist Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mattie Montgomery Finney; his father, James R. Finney Sr.; and a sister, Hope Donald. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Finney; son, James R. Finney III; daughter, Carolyn DiPerio; mother, Willie Anne Finney; sister, Patty Wilson; three brothers, C.D. Finney, Don Finney and Jerry I. Finney; stepson, Larry Davenport; stepdaughter, Sherry Mayle; two grandsons, Tony and Mark DiPerio; two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Kala DiPerio; four step-grandchilldren, Brandy and Daniel and Jason and Christina; and step-great-granddaughter, Kele Lowery. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dewey Williams, Rev. Sam Haynes and Rev. Jerry Musick officiating. Special music will be by Sue Watts and Charles Hickman.The committal will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mountainview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Williams, Mike Malone, Charles Hickman, Tip Defreese, Joe Greene, Sam Russell, Larry Johnston, Woody Caldwell, Mike McCann and Eddie Wilson.
