Maiden Louise Gooden Maiden, 77, of 408 Crockett St., Bristol, Va., died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in Bladen County, N.C., and had lived in Bristol most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Alden and Ruth Hayes Gooden and the widow of Robert H. Maiden. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald Maiden, and her daughter, Bobbie Maiden. Mrs. Maiden was a member of the Belle Meadows Garden Club and Trinity United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Jim Chandler of Bristol Virginia, and Letticia and Tim Robeson of Raleigh; three sisters, Betsy Barfield of High Point, N.C., Mary Ward of Clarkton, N.C., and Frances Adams of Elizabethtown, N.C.; two brothers, McAuley Gooden of Elizabethtown and Jimmy Gooden of Baton Rouge, La.; brother-in-law and friend, Bill Maiden of Bristol Virginia; former daughter-in-law, Judy Diltz of Bristol Virginia; friend and neighbor, Paulette Donahue; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Akard Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Amy Yeary Holmes, the Rev. Lester MacKinnon and her nephew, Bill Ward, officiating. The committal service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Darrin Maiden, Tyler Robeson, Travis Robeson, Matt Chandler, Dave Roberts, Chris Phipps, Beth Roberts and Leigh Beth Phipps. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Belcher, Phil Donahue, Jimmy Donahue, Carl Cunningham and Mike Fleming.
