She was born in Kentucky and had lived in Bristol since 1954. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church on Euclid Avenue in Bristol Virginia. She was a private duty nurse for 10 years and was the operator of B & S Grocery Store for many years. She was the widow of Franklin Whitaker and William Grover Shipley. She is survived by a sister, Marie DeLoach of Bristol Tennessee; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Frank L. Whitaker and Robert Wayne Shipley. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the chapel of Blevins Funeral Home with Rev. Darrell Pickle officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Griffin, Bill Griffin, Billy Griffin, Keith Cope, Curtis Powers and Robert Fields.
