Mr. Simon was a native of West Virginia and had resided in Baltimore and Chicago before retiring nine years ago and moving to the Bristol area. He was the son of the late Dora and Robert Simon. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech and served in the U.S. Army for six years. Oscar was a special agent for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. He was a member of Fellowship Chapel. While in Maryland, he was very active in the community, serving in the Boy Scouts of America as a troop master and coaching a Little League team for several years. Oscar was a very loving and caring husband, father, brother and brother-in-law and will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Poff Simon of the home; two sons, David Simon of Nashville and Lewis Simon of Naperville, Ill.; three sisters, Betty Collins of Culpeper, Va., Barbara Hines of Union, S.C., and Sondra Qualey and brother-in-law, Skip of Manassas, Va.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Greel and Kandy Simon of Grandy, N.C., Bill and Lucille Simon of Danville, Ala., and Larry and Jeana Simon of Jan Lew, W.Va.; a special brother-in-law and sister-in- law, Phil Simmons and Nancy Poff Simmons; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Price officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery with military graveside honors being conducted by Patton- Crosswhite VFW Post 6975 Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Micky Nutter, Robbie Hines, Joey Hines, Steve Collins, Grant Simmons and Allen Whitner. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Akard Funeral Home. E-mail condolences may be sent to the Simon family at akardfh@peercom.net.
