She was a life long resident of Bristol Virginia and had been a homemaker all her life. She was a member of Old Airport Road Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Mildred Ann Hopson of Bristol Tennessee; one son, Samuel Steven Smith of Atlanta; three grandchildren, Chad Creger of Kings, N.C., and Isaac Smith and Abby Smith of Atlanta; and four foster children, Phyllis Gott and J.W. Smith, both of Bristol Virginia, Raymond Smith of Johnson City and Betty Booher of Bristol Tennessee. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Sherfey and Rev. Lee Lambert officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Smith, Hoover Smith, Jeff Curbey, Lynn Sherfey, Jeff Booher and Richard Reed. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family would like to give a special thanks to Freda and friends onBonham Road and a "special" thanks to Mazie who was always there for Mom.
