THE COMMONWEALTH of Virginia To John Powell, Thomas Claiborne, William Vaughan & James Harrison Gentlemen Greeting WHEREAS James Harwell and Rebecca Harwell his wife of the County of Brunswick by their certain Indenture of bargain and Sale bearing Date the 14th Day of March 1785 have sold & Conveyed unto Thomas Washington the fee simple Estate of five hundred and fifty four acres of Land . . . lying and being in the said County of Brunswick AND WHEREAS the said Rebecca Harwell cannot conveniently travel to our Court . . . to make her acknowledgment of the said conveyance therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Rebecca Harwell shall be willing to make before you of the Conveyance aforesaid contained in the said Indenture which is hereunto annexed and we do therefore command you that you do personally go the said Rebecca Harwell and receive her acknowledgment of the same . . . the 16th Day of June 1785. By Virtue of this Commission to us directed we the Subscribers have privily examined Rebecca Harwell the wife of the within named James Harwell in manner and form as the said Commission requires & have received her acknowledgment of the Indenture hereunto annexed which said Indenture she acknowledge freely & voluntarily without his persuasion or threats and she was willing that the same should be Recorded in the County Court of Brunswick certified under our hands and seals the 19th Day of July 1785. This Indenture made the ninth Day of July 1785 BETWEEN Buckner Stith Senior of the County of Brunswick of the one part and Liza McKenny & Fanny McKenny Children of Thomas McKenny late of the said County deceased of the other part WHEREAS the said Thomas McKenny was in his lifetime and at the time of his death possessed of sixty seven acres of Land adjoining the tract of the said Buckner Stith for which a consideration had been paid and the said Buckner Stith fully satisfied and for which a Deed had not been made through the neglect of the said Thomas McKenny . . . that the said Buckner Stith in consideration of the premises and in order to fix the fee simple of the said Land in the heirs of the said Thomas McKenny (reserving & saving to Susanna McKenny the Widow of the said Thomas McKenny her right of Dower therein) . . . hath granted made over and confirmed unto the said Liza & Fanny McKenny . . . the said sixty seven acres of Land above mentioned and bounded as followeth BEGINNING at a maple just below the Sawyers Road on a small Branch of Roses Creek thence along Campbell's line South twenty five Degrees West sixty poles to a white Oak near the said Road, thence along William McKenny's line North thirty one Degrees East one hundred & eighty poles to a Red Oak, thence South sixty one Degrees East sixty poles to a Shrub Oak, thence a new line South thirty two Degrees West two hundred & twelve poles to the first Station. . . I Do hereby acknowledge that when I bought a certain Tract or Parcel of Land containing by estimation one hundred acres lying & being in the County of Brunswick on the East side of the long Slash joining the said John Blick's Land, that he purchased of Thomas Yeargain, bounded by John Blick, James Bass, Benjamin Lanier, William Rideout, James Parham, and Jesse Berryman, of Charles Harrison, our bargain was that I was to have a Deed from John Yeargain & his wife, and to trust to this title in the said Land, that the said Charles Harrison was not to warrant or Defend the same, or be any way answerable or liable any further than John Yeargain's and his wifes right. This Indenture made this 14th of January, 1785 BETWEEN John Harvey of the County of Brunswick of the one part and William Moore of the said County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds . . . doth grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff and absolutely confirm unto the said William Moore . . . a certain tract or parcel of Land in the County of Brunswick containing by estimation fifty acres . . . BEGINNING on Great red oak Creek at a white oak, thence South to a corner pole, thence West to a corner hickory on Purdie's line, thence South East by a line of marked trees to little Red oak, thence down the said Creek to the mouth, thence up the great Red oak Creek to the BEGINNING . . . THE COMMONWEALTH of Virginia To Philip Burford & Wyatt Hawkins Gentlemen greeting WHEREAS John Twitty decd. and Mildred his wife now the wife of Phillip Hawkins of the County of Warren in North Carolina by their certain Indenture of Bargain & Sale bearing Date the 6th Day of April 1774 have sold and conveyed unto Lewis Collier of the County of Brunswick in Virginia the fee simple Estate of four hundred Acres of Land . . . lying & being in the said County of Brunswick and whereas the said Mildred cannot conveniently travel to our Court . . . to make her acknowledgment of the said conveyance therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Mildred shall be willing to make . . . and do therefore command you that you do personally go to the said Mildred and receive her acknowledgment of the same . . . the 30th Day of June 1785. This Indenture made the 24th Day of July 1785 BETWEEN Robert Brooks of the County of Mecklenburg of the one part, and Robert Brooks Rose of the said County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds . . . doth grant, bargain & sell, alien, enfeoffed & confirmed unto the said Robert Brooks Rose . . . one certain Tract of Land containing by estimation one hundred & forty acres . . . lying on the East side of Poplar Creek and in the County of Brunswick and bounded as followeth, to wit, BEGINNING on a Maple on the Creek, thence North one hundred sixty eight Degrees East one hundred and ninety two poles to a Hickory in Wall's line, thence by his line North thirty one Degrees East eighty six poles to his Corner white oak in Walker's Line thence by his Line West two hundred & Sixty four poles to his Corner hickory on the Poplar Creek aforesaid, thence down the meanders of the said Creek to the BEGINNING . . . THE COMMONWEALTH of Virginia To John Jones, John Edmunds, Thomas Edmunds and Binns Jones Gentlemen greeting WHEREAS Thomas Haynes & Frances his wife of the County of Brunswick by their Certain Indenture of Bargain & Sale bearing date the 23d Day of May 1785 have sold & conveyed unto Herbert Haynes of Warren County the fee simple Estate of one thousand acres of Land . . . lying and being in the said County of Brunswick and whereas the said Frances cannot conveniently travel to our Court . . . to make her acknowledgment of the said conveyance therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Frances shall be willing to make . . . and we do therefore command you that you do personally go the said Francis and receive her acknowledgement . . . the 8th Day of July 1785. THE COMMONWEALTH of Virginia to John Jones, John Edmunds, Thomas Edmunds & Binns Jones Gentlemen greeting WHEREAS William Stith, Thomas Stith, Daniel Fisher and Katharine Stith wife of the said William in the County of Brunswick by their certain Indenture of Bargain & Sale bearing Date the 28th Day of June 1785 have sold & conveyed unto Robert Turnbull of Dinwiddie County the fee simple Estate of twelve hundred & twelve acres of Land . . . lying & being in the said County of Brunswick and whereas the said Katharine cannot conveniently travel to our Court . . . to make her acknowledgment . . . therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receiver the acknowledgment which the said Katharine shall be willing to make . . . and we do therefore command you that do personally go to the said Katharine and receive her acknowledgment of the same . . . 8th Day of July 1785. This Indenture made this eleventh day of July, 1785 BETWEEN William Stith and Katharine his wife of the County of Brunswick, and Thomas Stith and Daniel Fisher Trustees for the said William for the payment of a sum of money due from him the said William to Robert Turnbull of the County of Prince George of the one part, and Drury Stith of the County of Brunswick of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred pounds . . . to the said Robert Turnbull in hand paid by the said Drury Stith the receipt whereof will appear by the said Turnbull's receipt endorsed on theses Presents they the said William Stith & Katharine his wife and Thomas Stith and Daniel Fisher have granted, bargained and sold . . . unto the said Drury Stith . . . all that tract or parcel of Land situate on Brunswick County on both sides of flat Rock Road on the Branches of Waqua & Sturgeon Creeks containing by estimation five hundred and eighty one acres being formerly granted unto Drury Stith formerly of the said County by letters Patent dated the tenth Day of August one thousand seven hundred and fifty nine, which said Land was by him disposed of to Richard Stith of the County of Bedford, and by the said Richard to Jshua (sic) Mabry, and he the said Drury Stith departing this life without making any conveyance therefor, Drury Stith his heir at Law, in order to fix the fee simple of the said Land in the said Mabry executed a Deed bearing date the twenty third day of November one thousand seven hundred and seventy two, and by the death of two of the witnesses thereto and the death of the said Drury the said Deed was not admitted to Record till the year one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight when the same was proved by the surviving witness and Recorded and the said William Stith having afterwards become a purchaser of the said Lands they the said Joshua Mabry and Richard Stith and their wives and Lucy Stith relict of the said Drury the younger all joined in a conveyance for the said Land and general warranty to the above William Stith by an Indenture of Bargain & Sale bearing date the eighteenth Day of September one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight and duly recorded . . . This Indenture made this first Day of November 1785 BETWEEN Thomas Pinner and Lucy his wife of Brunswick County in the province of Virginia of the one part and Randolph Vaughan of the other part of aforesaid . . . for and in the consideration of the sum of fifty pounds . . . bargained and sold alien, enfeoffed, . . . & confirmed unto the said Randolph Vaughan . . . on certain tract or parcel of Land containing by estimation seventy five acres . . . bounded as followeth, to wit, BEGINNING at corner pine on Jeremiah Bentley's, line, so running the said line of marked trees to a willow oak on the Rockey run, Thence up the said Run the various water course to Jesse Glover's line, Thence up the said line by marked trees to Thomas Stevens's line a corner oak, thence along the said line of marked trees to the said stationed pine it being the said Land the said Pinner bought of William Sucat & the said Sucat (or Sweat) of David Stokes . . .
