This Indenture made this twenty eight day of June 1785 BETWEEN Daniel Mason of Dinwiddie County of the one party and Benjamin Davis of Brunswick County of the other party . . . for and in the consideration of twenty pounds . . . and six thousand pounds of Petersburg Tobacco . . . by these presents do grant bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff & confirm unto the said Benjamin Davis . . . one certain Tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the aforesaid County of Brunswick on the North side of Meherrin River and on the South side of Rose's Creek and bounded as follows (to wit) BEGINNING at the aforesaid Roses Creek at the said Davis's line, Thence South along the aforesaid Davis's line unto Benjamin Edwards Brown's line, thence along the said Brown's line West unto a shrub oak a corner a (sic) Nathaniel Harrison's line, thence along the said Harrison's line North unto the aforesaid Creek begun on, thence down the various courses of the run of the aforesaid Creek unto the BEGINNING as it meanders, containing by estimation ninety nine acres . . . This Indenture made this 29th Day of October 1785 BETWEEN John Crenshaw Senior of the County of Brunswick of the one part and Richard Gunn of the County aforesaid of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred & twenty five pounds . . . by these presents doth freely, clearly & absolutely bargain and Sell, alien and confirm unto the said Richard Gunn in plain and open market all that tract and parcel of Land lying and being in the County of Brunswick adjoining the Lands of Blumer White, Fredrick Cook, John Dupree, John Tilman & William Gunn Senior containing by estimation three hundred acres . . . This Indenture made this twenty eighth Day of November 1785 BETWEEN James McKenny & Molly his wife of Brunswick County in the parish of Saint Andrew of the one part and Robert Westmoreland of the same County and Parish of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of forty four pounds . . . by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell, alien & confirm unto the said Robert Westmoreland . . a tract or parcel of Land containing eighty eight acres . . . being part of one hundred & eighteen acres granted unto John McKenny by patent Dated the twenty seventy Day of August one thousand seven hundred & seventy situate in Brunswick County between the lines of Isaac Read, Richard Taliaferro, Edward Holloway, & Reubin Allen being the Land & Plantation whereon the said James McKenny now liveth . . . Walker of the County of Dinwiddie of the one part and Isaac Hicks of the County of Brunswick of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred and fifty pounds ten shillings . . . by these present doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Isaac Hicks . . . all that tract or parcel of Land & Plantation lying and being in the said County of Brunswick on the North side of Meherrin River about one mile above Pennington's ford containing five hundred and sixty seven acres . . . and bounded as followeth, to wit, BEGINNING at the mouth of Hall's Creek on Meherrin River from Thence up the said River as it meanders to Colo. This Indenture made this sixth Day of October 1785 BETWEEN Alexander Walker of the County of Dinwiddie of the one part and Isaac Hicks of the County of Brunswick of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of nine hundred and nine pounds . . . by these presents doth grant, bargain, & sell unto the said Isaac Hicks . . . all that tract or parcel of Land and Plantation lying & being in the County of Brunswick on the North side of Meherrin River near Pennington's ford containing six hundred & six acres . . . & bounded as followeth, to wit, BEGINNING at William Stainback's corner white oak standing on the River, and by his lines to William Caudle's and by his lines to Colo. John Jones's land and by the said Jones's lines to the Land purchased by the said Isaac Hicks of Thomas Walker and by the lines of that Land to Meherrin River aforesaid and down the said River to the BEGINNING . . . This Indenture made this third Day of May 1785 BETWEEN Joel Woolsey of the County of Brunswick of the one part and Randle Woolsey of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred & fifty pounds . . . hat granted, sold, aliened, released and confirmed unto the said Randle Woolsey . . . one certain tract or parcel of Land containing by estimation two hundred & fifty acres lying in the said County of Brunswick and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at a Ash on quarrel swamp thence along John Powell's line to Black oak, thence along said line to the Ready branch to William Carpenter's, thence down the branch to Quarrel swamp, thence down the said swamp to the possimmon tree branch, thence along said Branch to John Woolsey's line, thence along Woolsey's line, to a corner white oak on Zachariah Simms's line, thence along said line, to a corner Maple on the live oak branch, thence down the said branch to the BEGINNING . . . and the Joel Woolsey & Lidia his wife for themselves their heirs shall and will arrant and forever Defend the said Lands unto the said Randle Woolsey . . . KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that we William Walker, Daniel Fisher, Richard Elliott & Andrew Meade are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Virginia in the sum of fifteen hundred pounds . . . to be paid to the Governor of the said Commonwealth . . . Dated this 28th Day of Novr. 1785. The Condition of this obligation is such that whereas the above bound William Walker is constituted and appointed Sheriff of the County of Brunswick during pleasure by a Commission from the Governor under the Seal of the Commonwealth bearing date the [blank] Day of [blank] 1785 if therefor the said William Walker shall well and truly collect all fines & forfeitures accruing or becoming Due to the said Commonwealth in the said County of Brunswick and shall duly account for and pay the same into the Treasury, and shall also well and truly collect and received all officers fees and dues put into his hands to collect and duly account for and pay the same to the Officers to whom which fees are due respectively at such times as are prescribed & limited by Law and shall well and truly execute all Process and precepts to him directed and pay and satisfy all sums of money & tobacco by him received by virtue of any such Process to the Person or persons to whom the same are due . . . and in all other things shall truly and faithfully perform the said Office of Sheriff during the time of his continuance in the said office then this obligation to be void. KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that we William Walker, Daniel Fisher, Richard Elliott, Andrew Meade of the County of Brunswick are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Virginia in the sum of fifteen thousand pounds . . . to be paid to the Treasurer of the said Commonwealth . . . Dated this 28th Day of Novr. 1785. The Condition of this obligation is such that if the said William Walker Sheriff of the said County of Brunswick shall truly and faithfully collect account for and pay agreeable to Law all taxes imposed & becoming due in the said County for the year one thousand seven hundred & eighty six and by Law to be received by him the said William Walker then the above obligation to be void. TO ALL to whom theses presents shall come Know ye that whereas a certain tract of Land lying on Little Genito Creek in the County of Brunswick whereon Lewis Hicks now lives and which he purchased of Francis & Lucretia Young was formerly made over in Trust to me as by Deed bearing date the [blank] Day of [blank] and recorded in the County Court of Brunswick will fully appear for the express purpose of securing and paying a certain sum of money and therein expressed due by the said Lewis Hicks to Robert Turnbull of Dinwiddie County and for no other purpose whatever now know ye that for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred pounds to me in hand paid for the use above mentioned and for and in consideration of the farther sum of five shillings . . . that I do by these presents relinquish every claim and Demand to that tract of Land, which by virtue of said Deed of Trust I ever had to the said Lands, the same being this Day sold by the said Lewis Hicks to John Wills of Brunswick County and the money arrising (sic) from said Sale paid by me to the said Robert Turnbull, as directed by said Deed of Trust Witness my hand & Seal this 28th Day of November 1783. This Indenture made this fourth Day of October 1785 BETWEEN Thomas Moss & Mary his wife of the County of Greensville of the one part and John Mitchell of the County aforesaid of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred & twenty pounds . . . doth grant, bargain and sell, alien enfeoffed and confirm unto the said John Mitchell . . . one certain tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the County of Brunswick on the South side of Rattle snake Creek containing by estimation two hundred & sixty acres . . . and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at a white oak on Bedingfields Creek on Oliver Day's line, thence along Day's line to John Brewer's line, Thence along Brewer's line to Rattle snake Creek, thence down the said Creek to Nathan Harris's line, thence along Harris's line to Bedingfields Creek, thence up the said Creek to the BEGINNING . . . THE COMMONWEALTH of Virginia To Thomas Claiborn, William Vaughan & James Fletcher Gentlemen greeting whereas Henry Walton and Rebecca his wife of the County of Brunswick by their certain Indenture of bargain and sale bearing Date the 28th Day of May 1784 have sold & conveyed unto Soloman Hall the fee simple Estate of two hundred acres of Land with the appurtenances lying and being in the said County of Brunswick and whereas the said Rebecca cannot conveniently travel to our Court . . . to make her acknowledgment of the said conveyance therefore we do give unto you or any two of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Rebecca shall be willing to make before you of the conveyance aforesaid contained in the said Indenture . . . and we do therefore command you that you do personally go to the said Rebecca & receive her acknowledgment of the same and examine her privily and apart from the said Henry her husband . . . the 2d Day of August 1785. THE COMMONWEALTH of Virginia To Fredrick Jones, John Jones & Philip Jones Gentlemen greeting Whereas James Lanier of Brunswick & Randol Daniel & Lucy his wife of the County of Dinwiddie by their certain Indenture of bargain and Sale bearing date the 22d Day of November 1784 have sold & conveyed unto John Birdsong of Brunswick the fee simple estate of eighty six acres of Land with the appurtenances lying & being in the said County of Brunswick and whereas the said Lucy cannot conveniently travel to our Court . . . to make acknowledgment of the said conveyance therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Lucy shall be will to make . . .and we do therefore command you that you do Personally go to the said Lucy and receive her acknowledgment of the same . . . the 9th Day of September 1785. This Indenture made this twenty second Day of July 1785 BETWEEN William Lanier of the County of Brunswick of the one part and James Smith of the said County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of fifteen pounds specie which he the said William Lanier owes and is justly indebted to the said James Smith as will more fully appear - due the twenty fifth Day of December next and which the said William Lanier honestly desires to secure and pay to him and for and in consideration of the further sum of five shillings to him in hand paid by the said James Smith . . . he the said William Lanier hath granted, bargained, sold and confirmed unto the said James Smith . . . a certain negro girl named Lucy and her increase . . . upon trust nevertheless that the said James Smith . . . shall after the twenty fifty Day of December next as soon as the said James Smith shall think fit sell for the best price that can be got after giving ten days notice publickly (sic), the said Slave, and out of the money arrising (sic) from such sales, discharge the said Debt of fifteen pounds then due to the said James Smith . . . together with all and every expense and costs that may happen . . . and then the said James Smith . . . shall pay or cause to be paid unto the said William Lanier all the overplus of the money if any remain from the sale of the said negro . . . THE COMMONWEALTH of Virginia To Thomas Stith, John Powell & Thomas Claiborne gentleman greeting whereas Paul Tatum and Penellipa his wife, Benjamin Bass and Sarah his wife, James Vaughan & Susanna his wife, James Bresse (?) and Ann his wife, Lewis Peebles & Jane his wife and Tabitha Hicks of the County of Brunswick by their certain Indenture of Bargain and Sale bearing Date the 3d Day of December 1782 have sold and conveyed unto William Atkinson of the County of Greensville the fee simple Estate of two hundred and sixty three acres of Land . . . lying and being in the said County of Brunswick and whereas Jane wife of the said Lewis Peebles cannot conveniently travel to our said Court . . . to make her acknowledgment of the said conveyance therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Jane shall be willing to make . . . and we do therefore command you that you do personally go the said Jane and receive her acknowledgment of the same . . . the 20th Day of January 1786. This Indenture made this twenty second Day of May 1786 BETWEEN William Ivy and Unity his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and John Wills of the same County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred & fifty pounds . . . doth grant, bargain & sell, alien and confirm unto the said John Wills . . . all that tract or parcel of Land situate lying & being in the said County of Brunswick on both sides of little Gennito Creek containing two hundred & forty four acres . . . and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING on a corner white oak on Fields's line Thence across the little Gennito Creek to a corner white oak, from thence to a corner blackjack, on Fields's line from thence to the BEGINNING . . . Signed by William Ivy (his mark) and Unity (Ivy) her mark), and witnessed by Douglass Wilkins, Robert Turnbull, Thomas Washington, and Daniel Dugger. Brunswick County Court the 26th of June 1786. This Indenture was acknowledged by William Ivy & Unity his wife to be their Act & Deed & Ordered to be Recorded.
