This Indenture made this thirtieth Day of April 1787 BETWEEN Nathan Harris of the County of Brunswick and parish of Meherrin of the one part, and John Patrick of the County and parish aforesaid of the other part . . . for and in consideratio of the sum of twenty pounds . . . and further more for and in consideration of the natural love and tender affection which the said Nathan Harris hath and beareth unto the said John Patrick doth by these presents give grant, alien and confirm unto him the said John Patrick . . . one Negroe boy named Will one Negroe girl named Peggy and her increase, five head of cattle to be of the first choice of my stock of that kind one feather bed and furniture and one bay mare called by the name of the robuck filly, of which the said John Patrick hath been heretofore possessed of, and disposed of for his own profits all of which property and the increase thereof I the said Nathan Harris doth hereby give, grant and confirm unto the said John Patrick . . . This Indenture made this twenty seventh Day of March 1787 BETWEEN Benjamin Evans and Lucy his wife of the County of Sussex of the one part and David Meridith of Brunswick County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of ten thousand pounds of tobacco . . . doth grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff and confirm unto the said David Meridith . . . one certain tract or parcel of Land situate and lying on the North side of Meherrin River in the County of Brunswick and bounded as follows BEGINNING at Meridith's corner white oak on the river, thence along his line North forty five degrees East seventy poles to Collier's line, thence along his line North fifty seven degrees West forty four poles to his corner Black Jack, thence North ten degrees West one hundred and thirty eight poles to the said Collier's corner hickory, thence along his line South sixty degrees West twenty four poles to his corner Black jack, thence West one hundred and thirty six poles to his corner white oak, thence North thirty six degrees West twenty six poles to his corner on the river, thence down the river to Freeman's corner oak on the said river, thence along his line South twenty eight degrees East one hundred and eighty poles to his corner white oak on the said river, thence down the river with its meanders to the BEGINNING containing by estimation two hundred and twelve acres . . . This Indenture witnesseth that William Fogg of the County of Brunswick and parish of Meherrin for and in consideration of the sum of sixty pounds . . . paid by William and James Huff and Allan Love all of the County of Brunswick and parish of Meherrin . . . doth grant bargain and sell alien release enfeoff and confirm unto the said William and James Huff and Allan Love . . . all that tract or parcel of Land which the said William Fogg now lives on situate lying and being in the County of Brunswick bounded on the South by James Petillo on the North by James Brown East by Edward Travis and on the West by George Browder containing one hundred and five acres . . . to the only purpose use and behoof of the said William and James Huff and Allan Love their heirs and assigns forever upon special trust and confidence and to and for the uses interests and purposes trusts following that is to say the said William and James Huff and Allan Love shall and will dispose of the said one hundred and five acres for the best price to be got for the same the sale to be made by the publick auction for ready money and the money arising or accrueing from such sale or dispositions and the residue of the said money arising from the said sale and disposition if any to be paid to the said William Fogg . . . that the said William and James Huff and Allan Love their heirs and assigns shall and will, well, truly and faithfully keep perform and fulfill the trust by the presents reposed in them in selling and disposing of the said land for the best price to be got for the same at publick auction in ready money, and in the first place paying themselves satisfying the debt and interest that may arise and become due to them and the residue if any to be the said William Fogg . . . This Indenture made this eighth Day of September 1787 BETWEEN Benjamin Johnson surviving executor of James Johnson deceased of Brunswick County of the one part and Thomas Carter of the same County of the other part . . . that whereas James Johnson by his last will and testament bearing date the twelth Day of January one thousand seven hundred and eighty five which said will has been duly recorded as the law directs in the County Court of Brunswick did among other things direct that his land lying in Brunswick County on Briery Creek should be sold for the payment of his just debts and whereas the aforementioned Benjamin Johnson surviving executor of the said James Johnson pursuant to the said Last Will and Testament of the said James Johnson deceased for and in consideration of the sum of forty pounds . . . doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Thomas Carter . . . all that tract and parcel of Land directed to be sold by the last Will and Testament of the said James Johnson Deceased, lying and being in the County of Brunswick on Briery Creek and bounded by the Lands of Edward Birchett, Edward Goodrich and Zebulon Lewis containing by estimation one hundred acres . . . And shall well and truly execute all process and preceipts to him directed and pay and satisfy all sums of money and tobacco by him received by virtue of any such process to the person or persons to whoom [sic] the same was due, his or their executors, administrators or assigns and in all other things shall truly and faithfully perform the said office of Sheriff during the time of his continuance in the said office then the obligation to be void. This Indenture made the tenth Day of January 1788 BETWEEN Samuel Kelley of Brunswick County of the one part and James Kelley of the same County of the other part . . . that whereas the said Samuel Kelley being justly indebted to William Kelley the sum of fifty four pounds ten shillings and three pence half penny specie fifty pounds bequeathed by the last will of their father Giles Kelley to be paid by the said Samuel on condition of a gift therein made to the said Samuel of a certain Negroe man slave named Solomon and four pounds ten shillings and three pence half penny being a ballance of the said William's porportion of his said father's personal estate in the hands of the said Samuel, and the said Samuel Kelley being willing to secure the payment of the said sum with interest thereon to be computed from the first of this present month untill the same shall be fully satisfied and paid, he the said Samuel Kelley for and in the consideration of the sum of five shillings . . . doth bargain and sell unto the said James Kelley . . . two Negro slaves named Solomon and Hannah . . . in trust nevertheless and it is the true intent and meanding of these presence that if the said Samuel Kelley . . . shall not on or before the tenth Day of January next ensuing, the date hereof, pay or cause to be paid unto the said William Kelley the said sum of fifty four ponds ten shillings and three pence half penny specie with interest thereon to be computed from the said first day of this present month that then it shall and may be lawful immediately after the expiration of the said term for the said James Kelley as trustee to advertise giving ten days notice and to sell the said two slaves Solomon and Hannah to the highest bidder for ready money and to satisfy and pay unto the said William Kelley his debt with interest . . . but if the said Samuel Kelley shall and do pay up unto the said William Kelley or unto the said James Kelley as their trustee the said debt and interest as aforesaid in full at any time before a sale of the said slaves under this deed of trust shall be actually made then this Indenture shall be come void to all intents and purposes as if the same had never been made . . .
