THE COMMONWEALTH of Virginia To Thomas Stith Senior, Benjamin Blick, Andrew Meade, and Buckner Stith Gentlemen Greeting whereas William Mays and Rebecca his wife of the County of Brunswick by their certain Indenture of Bargain and Sale bearing date the tenth Day of March 1788 have sold unto James Blick the fee simple estate of four hundred acres of land . . . lying and being in the County of Brunswick, and whereas the said Rebecca cannot conveniently travel to our Court . . . to make acknowledgement of the said conveyance therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Rebecca shall be willing to make before you . . . and we do therefore command you that you do personally go to the said Rebecca and receive her acknowledgment of the same and examine her privately and apart from the said William her husband . . . the 17th Day of March 1788. This Indenture made the twenty second Day of September 1788 BETWEEN Christopher Thrower and Sarah his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and William Edward Brodnax of the same County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of * . . . do give grant bargain sell confirm and release unto the said William Edward Brodnax . . . all their right title and interest of in and to the plantation and tract of land devised by the last Will and Testament of John Sims deceased father of the said Sarah unto her brother John Sims his son after the death of his mother the said Will bearing date the twelfth Day of May 1788 and recorded in the County Court of Brunswick will more fully appear the said John Sims having conveyed the said to the said William Edward Brodnax by deed of feoffment and who now hath the possession thereof . . . This Indenture made the eighth Day of February 1788 BETWEEN John Dupree and Nancy his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and Fredrick Cook of the County aforesaid of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds . . . doth absolutely bargain and sell in plain and open market all that tract and parcel of land lying and being in the County of Brunswick on the branches of Pigeon Roost Creek unto the said Fredrick Cook . . . containing by estimation three hundred acres . . . and is bounded as follows BEGINNING at a dogwood tree on Fredrick Cook's line, thence on his line to a spannish oak, thence on his line to a black jack on Isaac Mosley's line, thence on Mosley's line to a red oak on the Ridge Path to John White's line, thence on a line of marked trees by the Ridge Path to a red oak a corner on Lewis Huff's line, thence along the said to a forked poplar on the head of a branch, thence down the branch as it meanders to the Pigeon Roost Creek, thence up the Creek to the BEGINNING . . . This Indenture made this twentieth Day of September 1788 BETWEEN Matthew Bishop and Martha Bishop his wife William Bishop and Rebecca his wife all of Brunswick County of the one part and Smith Hampton of the same County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of twenty eight pounds . . . doth grant bargain and sell alien enfeoff release and confirm unto the said Smith Hampton . . . one certain tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County of Brunswick aforesaid containing by Estimation one hundred and eighty seven acres and bounded as follows (to wit) BEGINNING at a hickory on William Bishop's line, thence Bishop's own line to Charles Oldham's line, thence on Charles Oldham's line to Joel Lambert's line, thence on the said Lambert's line to Isham Rease line, thence on the said Reace's line to the County line, thence on the said County line to James Fisher's line, thence on the said Fisher's line to William Bishop's line, and thence on the said line to the First Station . . . This Indenture made the twelfth Day of March 1788 BETWEEN David Walker (son of George) of the one part and Gray Edwards of the County of Brunswick of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and ninety pounds and six pence . . . doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Gray Edwards . . . all that tract of land which was devised to Kidder Keith Walker brother of the said David by the last Will and Testament of George Walker deceased and which descended to the said David by the death of the said Kidder Keith and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at a corner oak on Waqua Creek thence thro a meander along Andrew Walker's line South fourteen and a quarter degrees East 340 poles to a corner hickory on the back line thence along the same South seventy eight degrees West 170 poles to a corner post oak, thence North nine degrees West 352 poles to a corner buck beam on Waqua Creek, thence down the same as it meanders to the First Station containing by a late survey three hundred and twenty two and a quarter acres . . . This Indenture made this twenty second Day of September 1788 BETWEEN Robert Hardaway and Sarah his wife of the County of Dinwiddie of the one part and John Sturdivant of the County of Brunswick of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and nineteen pounds . . . do by these presents grant bargain and sell unto the said John Sturdivant . . . one certain tract and parcel of Land situate lying and being in the Parish of Meherrin and County of Brunswick containing by estimation two hundred acres being one moiety of a tract of four hundred acres sold and by deed conveyed by Lewis Parham to John Peterson as by the deed for the same duly recorded in the County Court of the aforesaid County of Brunswick reference being there unto had may more fully and at large appear which said four hundred acres of land are bounded as follows (to wit) BEGINNING at a corner red oak, thence North fifty five degrees West forty poles to a white oak, thence North twenty degrees West one hundred ninety six poles to a small shrub white oak, thence South twenty degrees West three hundred and twenty poles to a red oak, thence South [blank ] degrees East two hundred poles to a white oak on Peterson's line, thence along his line North seventy degrees East two hundred and sixty eight poles to the BEGINNING which tract of four hundred acres of land is divided by a dividing line between John Peterson and Drury Thweatt conveyed by Thweatt to * Chestue Curtes known and distinguished by the name of Curtes's line and divides the said tract into two tract of two hundred acres each by Estimation the one of which now in the possession of Chestue Curtes is the tract herein by these presents before sold . . . This Indenture was acknowledged by Robert Hardaway and Sarah his wife to be their act and deed and ordered to be recorded previous to which the said Sarah being privately examined as the Law directs did voluntarily assent thereto. This Indenture made and intended the first Day of February 1788 BETWEEN John Sims of the County of Brunswick and the Commonwealth of Virginia Planter of the one part and William Edward Brodnax of the same County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of six hundred pounds . . . doth give grant bargain sell enfeoff and confirm unto the aforesaid William Edward Brodnax . . . a certain tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being in Brunswick County on the North side of Meherrin River abutting and bounded as follows that is to say BEGINNING at Henry Crittenden's corner on the river, thence along his line to Sterling Peebles line, and along his line to Charles's line, and along his line to the said Peebles' line, and again and along his line to Crowder's, and along his line to Freeman's line, and along his line to Meherrin River at Kelley's ford, thence up the river to the BEGINNING the same containing by Estimation five hundred and forty three acres of land . . . Signed by John Sims and witnessed by Isham Smith, Thomas Rivers, and Francis Stainback. [Margin] Received of Wm. Edwd. Brodnax six hundred pounds current money of Virginia being the full consideration money within mentioned as witness my hand this first Day February 1788. This Indenture & receipt indorsed were acknowledged by John Sims to be his act and deed and ordered to be recorded. Deed Book 14, page 411. This Indenture made this seventh Day of May 1788 BETWEEN John Sims of the County of Brunswick of the one part and William Edward Brodnax of the same County of the other part . . . whereas the said John Sims stands justly indebted to the said William Edward Brodnax in the just and full of three hundred and twenty six pounds fifteen shillings and seven pence half penny actual gold or silver as will more fully appear by his Bond bearing date seventh Day of May one thousand seven hundred eighty eight and being willing and desirous of securing the payment of the same and interest on the said kind of money thereof this Indenture Witness that as well for the securing of the said sum of L326"15"7 1/2 and the interest that may appear to be due on the said Bond as also for the consideration of the just sum of five shillings to the said John Sims in hand paid by the said William Edward Brodnax . . . John Sims hath granted, bargained and sold by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said William Edward Brodnax . . . the following Negroes and property (to wit) Sharper, Molly, Tempy, Rachel, Sarah, Ceasor, and two sorrel horses, one black mare and sorrel colt, two steers, which is to break into Oxen, one feather bed and furniture . . . provided allways [sic] and these presents are on these conditions that if the said John Sims doth pay or cause to be paid unto the said William Edward Brodnax . . . the above sum of three hundred and twenty six pounds fifteen shillings and seven pence half penny with interest as above and all the expense whatsoever that incurs from record of this Indenture or in providing for the securing this debt in the said kind of money on or before the twenty fifth Day of December next ensuing the date hereof . . . this Indenture and everything herein contained shall cease determine and become actually void . . . This Indenture made the twenty third Day of February 1788 BETWEEN Peter Randle and Mary his wife of the County of Montgomery in the State of North Carolina of the one part and William Edward Brodnax of the County of Brunswick in Virginia of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred pounds . . . do give grant bargain sell and confirm and release unto the said William Edward Brodnax . . . all their right title and interest of in and to the plantation and tract of land devised by the last Will and Testament of John Sims deceased father of the said Mary unto her brother John Sims his son; after the death of his mother the said Will bearing date the twelfth Day of May 1778 and recorded in the County Court of Brunswick will more fully appear the said John Sims having conveyed the same to the said William Edward Brodnax by deed of feoffment and who now hath the possession thereof . . . Davidson, County Clerk. At a Court held for Brunswick County the 22d Day of September 1788. This Indenture of Release from Peter Randle and Mary his wife of the State of North Carolina to William Edward Brodnax of this County, together with a Commission annexed for taking the acknowledgment and privy examination of the said Mary and a Certificate of the Execution thereof as also a Certificate of the proff [sic] of the said deed from Montgomery County in the said State of North Carolina were presented in Court and being examined and approved or admitted to record agreeable to the act of assembly entitled "An Act for Regulating Conveyance". THE COMMONWEALTH of Virginia To James Gray and James Fletcher Gentlemen Greeting whereas Peter Randle and Mary his wife of the County of Montgomery in State of North Carolina by their certain Indenture of Bargain and Sale and Release bearing date the twenty third Day of February 1788 have sold and released unto William Edward Brodnax of the County of Brunswick in Virginia all their right title and interest of and in a tract of land containing by Estimation five hundred and forty three acres of land . . . lying and being in the said County of Brunswick and whereas the said Mary cannot conveniently travel to our Court . . . to make acknowledgement of the said conveyance therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Mary shall be willing to make before you of the conveyance . . . and we do therefore command you that you do personally go to the said Mary and receive her acknowledgment of the same and examine her privately and apart from the said Peter her husband . . . the twenty seventh Day of February 1788. THE COMMONWEALTH of Virginia To John Moss, John Fitzgerald, and William Brown, Gentlemen Greeting Whereas Buckner Stith and Anne his wife formerly of the County of Brunswick by their certain Indenture of Bargain and Sale bearing date the twenty first Day of December 1785 have sold and conveyed unto Edward Marks of the said County the fee simple estate of seven hundred and eighty acres of land . . . lying and being in the said County of Brunswick and whereas the said Anne cannot conveniently travel to our Court . . . to make acknowledge of the said conveyance therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Anne shall be willing to make before you . . . and we do therefore command you that you do personally go to the said Anne and receive her acknowledgment of the same and examine her privately and apart from the said Buckner her husband . . . the first Day of July 1786. THE COMMONWEALTH of Virginia To James Saunders and Abraham Fulkerson, Esquires, Gentlement Greeting whereas John Tarply and Agga his wife of the County of Brunswick by their certain Indenture of Bargain and Sale bearing date the twenty ninth Day of December 1786 have sold and conveyed unto William Hammonds the fee simple estate of one hundred and eighty six acres of land . . . being in the said County of Brunswick and whereas the said Agga cannot conveniently travel to our Court . . . to make her acknownledgment of the said conveyance therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Agga shall be willing to make before you . . . and we do therefore command you that you do personally go to the said Agga and receive her acknowldgement of the same and examine privily and apart from the said John Tarply . . . the fourteenth Day of October 1786. Merchant Glasgow of the one part and Owen Myrick of the same County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and seventy pounds . . . do grant bargain and sell unto the said Owen Myrick . . . all that tract or parcel of Land lying on Brandy Creek containing by estimation three hundred and thirty eight acres . . . and bounded as follows BEGINNING at a corner maple on the Westward Road on Pooley's Bridge Branch, thence down the said branch on Lazarous Williams's line to an ash on Brandy Creek John Williams corner tree at the mouth of the branch, thence up the branch John Williams's line to a white oak a corner tree, thence along Chinea Williams's line to a corner white oak on Willis line, thence along Willis line to a white oak and red oak corner trees, thence along a line of marked trees to a white oak on the Westward Road on Bartley Sims's line, thence along the said road to the First Station . . . and the said William Sims . . . doth hereby by convenant and grant two hundred thirty eight acres of the tract or parcel of land as doth the said John Wardrop for John McCall and Co. one hundred acres of the said tract lying within the said bounds on eastward side of the Westward Road to and with the said Owen Myrick . . . This Indenture made this twenty ninth Day of September 1788 BETWEEN Owen Myrick of the Parish Meherrin and County of Brunswick of one part and Paul Hartwell of the said County and Parish . . . that the said Paul Hartwell for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred pounds . . . doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said Owen Myrick . . . that tract or parcel of Land situate lying on Rattlesnake Creek in the aforesaid County containing one hundred and thirteen acres . . . BEGINNING at the mouth of Ledbetter's corner, thence along the meanders of the branch Ledbetter's line, to a white oak on Owen Myrick's line, thence along the said Owen Myrick line to Rattlesnake Creek, thence down the said Creek to the BEGINNING also including thirteen acres on the North side bounded all round by the said Myrick's line and I the said Paul Hartwell doth bargain and sell to the said Owen Myrick all that tract or parcel of Land with all the appurtenances thereto . . . This Indenture made this fifth Day of September 1788 BETWEEN John Green and Dolly Green his wife of Brunswick County of the one part and Stephen Jones of the said County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of one hundred and sixty eight pounds . . . hath granted, give, bargained and sold unto the said Stephen Jones . . . one certain tract or parcel of Land, containing one hundred and sixty eight acres . . . situate lying and being in the aforesaid County and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at the mouth of his spring branch on Nottoway River, thence up the said branch to the head, thence to his line, thence along the said line to the head of a branch, thence down the branch to Ceder Creek, thence down the Creek to Nottoway River, thence up the said River as it meanders to the BEGINNING . . . This Indenture made the eighteenth Day of March 1788 BETWEEN John Covington and Polly his wife of the County of Lunenburg of the one part and Daniel Taylor of the County of Brunswick of the other part . . . for divers good causes and considerations himself hereunto moving but more especially for and in consideration of the sum of two thousand and five hundred pounds of Neat Inspected crop Petersburg tobacco . . . hath granted bargained and sold unto the said Daniel Taylor one certain tract or parcel of Land containing twenty five acres . . . and is bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at a post oak on Johnson's line upon a small branch, down the said branch unto the Rock Branch, down the Rock Branch unto the creek upon the Mill Pond, along the creek unto Johson's [sic] line, along Johnson's line as it meanders to the BEGINNING . . .
