This Indenture made this 9th day of May 1793 between John Loyd of the County of Brunswick and Buckner Stith of the same County . . . for and in consideration of the sum of Five Shillings . . . he the said John Loyd doth hereby acknowledge he the said John Loyd hath granted bargained and sold aliened and confirmed unto the said Buckner Stith . . . a certain tract or parcel of land on the South side of Couches Run containing two hundred acres adjoining the lands of Aristotle Eldridge, the Revd. Thomas Lundies Lewis Browns & others agreeable to a deed bearing date the 9th day of May 1793 from Andrew Meade to the said John Loyd for the said land and also the following property vitz. on [sic] Chestnut Sorrel mare one bay mare and three cows and calves & one steer . . . In Trust nevertheless and it is the true intent and meaning of these presents that whereas the said John Loyd being indebted unto Andrew Meade in the just sum of fifty pounds eighteen shillings due on Bond executed this day and being willing and desirous to secure the said Andrew Meade in the payment thereof with interest and the costs of this deed at a future date doth agree that it shall and may be lawful and he doth hereby give unto the said Buckner Stith full power and lawful authority after the first day of December 1794 on giving ten days public notice to sell to the highest bidder for ready money the land and property aforesaid and to apply the money arising from such sale to the payment of the within mentioned sum with interest from the 9th day of May 1793 to the said Andw. Meade . . . but if the said John Loyd shall on or before the expiration of the term aforesaid or at the day of sale pay unto the said Andrew Meade the said sum of Fifty Pounds Eighteeen shillings with Interest and costs aforesaid in full then this Indenture shall be null and void and of no effect as if the same had been made . . . I Richard Jackson of the County of Brunswick and State of Virginia do hereby set free from Bondage one Negro man named Stephen age twenty four years to be free the 25th day of December next . . . this 22nd day of July 1793. This Indenture made this 22nd day of July 1793 between Edward Love of the one part and William Walker Senr. of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and forty pounds . . . do grant bargain sell alien enfeoff and confirm unto the said William Walker . . . one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County of Brunswick and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at a corner pine on Walkers line and thence along his line to William Watsons and thence along his line to Robert Watsons and thence along his line to Shaeltons line on the Creek and thence up the Creek as it meanders to my own line and thence my line to the Beginning at said Pine containing by estimation two hundred and sixty two acres . . . This Indenture made this 4th day of May 1793 between John Davis of the first part James Batte of the second part and William Brown of the third part . . . that the said John Davis for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds . . . which he the said John Davis oweth to the said James Batte and honestly desires to pay to him and also for and in consideration of the sum of five shillings . . . doth give grant bargain sell alien and confirm to the said William Brown . . . all the slaves following (to wit) James, Patience, Nanny, Ephraim, Holland and Rose and their increase . . . UPON TRUST and special confidence nevertheless that if it shall happen that the said one hundred shall be in arrear and unpaid to the said James Batte . . . on the 25th day of December in the year 1793 or at any time thereafter that then and in that case it shall be lawful . . . that the said William Brown . . . shall sell and dispose at public auction to the highest bidder for ready money all or any of the said slaves having given ten days previous notice of the time and place of such sale in the Petersburg Gazette and shall out of the proceeds of such sale pay and satisfy to the said James Batte . . . the aforesaid one hundred pounds with legal interest thereon till paid together with the cost of drawing proving and recorded of this deed & the necessary expenses attending such sale . . . BE IT KNOWN TO ALL PERSONS that the conditions hereafter mentioned & herein described are conditions concented [sic] to & agreed to between Parsons Campbell & Suzannah Ezell before they enter into wedlock or marriage together the conditions are these that whereas the said Suzannah Ezell is possessed with and entitled to a tolerable estate that the said Parsons Campbell is not to be entitled to any part of the same by virtue of intermarrying with the said Suzannah Ezell any further that she pleases or gives consent and that no bargain or contract of his with the same is to stand good without her consent and be it known by these presents that the said Suzannah Ezell is entitled to dispose of or will away any part or parts thereof at her own discretion & that a sale or gift of the same shall be good & lawful as tho [sic] they never intermarried with each other given under our hands and seals this the twelf [sic] day of June 1793. THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA To William Robertson John Baird & William Poythress Gentlemen Greeting whereas Edmund Harrison and Mary his wife of the County of Prince George by their certain Indenture of Bargain and Sale bearing date the 28th day of January 1793 have sold unto Joseph Baugh of the County of Brunswick the fee simple estate of six hundred and sixty four acres of land with the appurtenances lying & being in the County of Brunswick and whereas the said Mary Harrison cannot conveniently travel to our Court . . . to make acknowledgment of the said conveyance therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Mary shall be willing to make before of the conveyance . . . and we therefore command you that you personally go to the said Mary & receive her acknowledgment of the same and examine her privately and apart from the said Edmund her husband . . . the 3rd day of July 1793. This Indenture made this 10th day of December 1793 between Mary Mason widow of John Mason late of the County of Greensville deceased of the one part and William Harrison of the County of Sussex of the other part . . . for the consideration mentioned in an Indenture between the said John Mason decd. of the one part and the said William Harrison of the other part bearing date the 28th day of May seventeen hundred and ninety two for the conveyance of five hundred and ninety three acres of land by estimation . . . according to the bounds mentioned in the said Indenture which is duly admitted to record in the County Court of Brunswick reference being thereunto had will fully appear and also for the consideration of five shillings by the said Harrison to the said Mary Mason in hand paid . . . she the said Mary Mason doth by these presents release give grant and confirm unto the sd. This Indenture made and concluded this 20th day of August 1793 between Charles Edmunds of the County of Brunswick of the one part and Frederick Briggs of the said County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of forty four pounds eight shillings and nine pence three farthings . . . doth grant bargain sell alien and confirm unto the said Frederick Briggs . . . the following slaves a boy a____e by the name of Jeph, also another by the name of Adam, a younger one . . . IN TRUST NEVERTHELESS and it is the true intent and meaning of these presents that the said Charles Edmunds being justly indebted unto Hinchia Gilliam of the said County of the sum of forty four pounds eight shillings & nine pence three farthings and being willing and desirous to secure the payment of the same at some future day have by these presents made over and conveyed unto the said Frederick Briggs aforesaid the above mentioned slaves Jeph and Adam in trust for the purpose aforesaid therefore if the said Charles Edmunds shall fail to pay or cause to be paid unto the said Hinchia Gilliam . . . the aforesaid sum of money as will appear by his Bond with the lawful interest from the date on or before the first day of January next then the said Frederick Briggs shall by these presents have full power and lawful authority on giving ten days publick notice to sell the said slaves Jeph & Adam to the highest bidder for ready money and to pay unto the said Hinchia Gilliam his debt interest & costs . . . This Indenture made this 15th day of August 1792 between James Stewart & Sarah his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and the said Richard Hudson decd. of the other part that formerly lived in Greensville as an overseer for Edmund Wilkins WITNESSETH that the said James Stewart for and in consideration of the sum of fifty pounds . . . to him in hand paid by the said decd. Richard Hudson before the sealing & delivery hereof . . . doth grant bargain sell alien enfeoff and confirm unto the said Alphins [sic] of the said Richard Hudson decd. and their heirs forever one certain tract or parcel of land in the County aforesaid in Meherrin Parish containing one hundred and thirty seven acres of land whereon he liv'd at the time sd. Hudson bought the said land of the Stewart and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at a black jack on Richard Branscomb line a corner tree running thence South course to a spannish [sic] oak on William Richardson's line thence a West coarc [sic] to a hickory on John Burnett's line thence North to a hickory on John Burnetts and Demseys Sewards line thence down Buck water to a branch thence up the said branch to the Beginning at the black jack the sd. land being part of the tract granted to one Morgin by patent . . .
