This Indenture of Bargain & Sale from Dudley House of the one part to Joseph Mason of the other part was proved by the oaths of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. This Indenture made this 5th day of September 1792 between William Brewer of the County of Brunswick and State of Virginia of the one part and William Vaughan of the County and State aforesaid of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of forty eight pounds five shillings . . . hath granted bargained and sold aliened enfeoff'd released and confirmed unto the said William Vaughan . . . one certain tract or parcel of land in the County and State aforesaid on Rattlesnake Creek containing ninety six acres and an half . . . and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING on Rattlesnake Creek at the mouth of Henry Ledbetter's spring branch thence up the said branch along the said Ledbetter's line to a persimmon a corner tree in the sd. Ledbetter's old field thence an East course along the said Ledbetter's & Fleming's lines to a branch, thence down the said branch as it meanders to Rattlesnake Creek, thence up the said creek at [sic] it meanders to a burch above the ford, thence along a line of marked trees a North course, being a line between the said Brewer and Vaughan to live willow oaks in old field corner trees, thence a West course along the said Vaughan's line to the Beginning or First Station . . . Brewer of the one part to Wiliam Vaughan of the other part was acknowledged by the sd. Wm. Brewer party thereto to be his act & deed & ordered to be recorded. Deed Book 15, page 515. This Indenture made 9th day of November 1793 between James Laffoon and Jane his wife of Macklinburg [sic] County of the one part and Robert Blackwell of Brunswick County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of seventeen pounds . . . and twenty four hundred weight of tobacco . . . by these presents do bargain & sell unto the said Robert Blackwell . . . a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Brunswick containing fifty acres and bounded as follows, to wit, BEGINNING at Lanier's corner on a post oak thence along his line to Sterling Edmunds's corner on a white oak thence along the said Edmunds's line to the mouth of a little branch which is William Keen Samford's line thence up the said branch to the head and thence a strait line out along the courses of the first mentioned line for complement and from thence to the Beginning . . . Signed by James Laffoon and Jane Laffoon and witnessed by William Bishop, Joseph Samford, and Joseph Whitehead (his mark). Brunswick County Court April 28th 1794. This Indenture of Bargain and Sale between James Laffoon and Jane his wife of the one part and Robert Blackwell of the other part was proved by the oaths of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. This Indenture made the 25th day of April 1794 between William Owens and Mary his wife of the County of Brunswick and State of Virginia of the one part and George Wright of the County & State aforesaid of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of forty five pounds . . . by these presents hath forever granted bargain sold and confirmed unto the sd. George Wright . . . a parcel of land or tract, laying in the County aforesaid, bounded as follows BEGINNING at a pine the corner tree between William Owens & Briggs Goodrich from thence a South course to a white oak on Middleton Fletcher's land from thence a S. E. course to a red oak from thence to a white oak on the road from thence down the said road to a white oak a corner tree, and from thence a S. W. course to the First Station to contain one hundred acres . . . and the said land is in possession of him the sd. George Wright . . . Signed by William Owens and Mary Owens (her mark) and witnessed by Thomas Goodrich, Owen M. Fletcher, and Micajah Lane. Brunswick County Court April 28th 1794. This Indenture of Bargain & Sale between Wm. Owens & Mary his wife of the one part and George Wright of the other part, was acknowledged by the sd. William & Mary to be their act & deed and ordered to be recorded. Previous to which acknowledgement the said Mary being first privily examined as the Law directs did voluntarily assent thereto. This Indenture of Bargain and Sale between James Hicks and Judith his wife of the one part & James Sturdivant of the other part was acknowledged by the said James & Judith parties thereto to be their & deed & ordered to be recorded. This Indenture of Bargain and Sale was acknowledged by William Berry a party thereto to be his act and deed & ordered to be recorded. Deed Book 15, page 549. This Indenture made this 29th day of November 1791 between Lewis Brown son of Richard & Priscilla his wife of the one part & John Rives of the County of Greensville of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds . . . do grant bargain & sell unto the said John Rives . . . one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying & being in the County of Brunswick on the South side of Smokey Ordinary Road containing by estimation two hundred acres and bounded as followeth BEGINNING where Beverly's path crosses the said road at a black jack thence down the said road to Jessee Edwards's corner white oak thence along the said Edwards's line S 19 W 170 poles to a corner pine thence along Lewis Brown Senr. line N 63 W 128 poles to his corner black jack, thence a new line continuing the same course 180 poles to a small white oak corner thence a new line N 18 E 174 poles to the Beginning . . . to the only proper use and behoof of him the said John Rives . . . This Indenture of Bargain & Sale was proved by the oaths of Thomas Pelham & Sampson Duggar witnesses thereto and having been proved on the 23rd day of April 1792 by the oath of Frederick Burdge also a witness thereto the same is ordered to be recorded and Priscilla Brown wife of the said Lewis Brown being first privily examined as the Law directs did voluntarily assent thereto. This Indenture made and indented the 23rd day of June 1794 between Henry Jackson & Ann his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and James Bass of the same County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of fifty pounds . . . doth hereby grant bargain sell and confirm unto the said James Bass . . . one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying & being in the aforesaid County and bounded as followeth that is to say BEGINNING at William Rices corner white oak thence along his line North twenty degrees East seventy poles to a small pine on the Three Creeks thence down the said Creek as it meanders to the mouth of the So_io slash thence up the said slash as it meanders to Bruces corner maple on the same thence along this line South sixty & a half degrees West eighty poles to a small black jack thence along a new line North thirty six degrees West one hundred & twenty two poles to a small black jack on the sd. Wm. Rices line & thence along the sd. line North eighty two degrees East eighty poles to the Beginning and containing by a late survey one hundred acres . . . Signed by Henry Jackson and Ann Jackson. TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME I William Atkison Senr. do send greeting whereas by the death of my son James Atkison it is supposed that I have a right to his estate but know ye that I the said William Atkison of the County of Brunswick for and in consideration of the love, good will, and tender affection which I have and do bare towards my loving children William Atkison, Thomas Atkison, Dorothy Atkison, Martha Collier, John Atkison and Rebeccah Atkison have given and granted and by these presents do freely give and grant unto the said children when they come of age or marry all the right title interest claim & demand which I have or may have to a Negro fellow named Roger one Negro girl named Nancy two head of horses, stock of cattle together with all and singular the goods chattels and credits belonging to the estate of my said son James Atkison to be equally divided between my said children to wit William Thomas Dorothy Martha John and Rebeccah when they come of age or marry . . . provided also and it is the true intent and meaning of these presents that if the estate of my said son James be in debt in that case his debts are to be paid out of his estate . . . this 21st day of May 1794. This Indenture made this 19th day of April 1794 between Joseph Mason and Elizabeth his wife of Brunswick County and State of Virginia of the one part and John Drummond of the said County & State of the aforesaid of the other part . . . for & in consideration of the sum of three hundred and ninety six pounds . . . have granted bargained & sold . . . unto the said John Drummond . . . one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Brunswick in Meherrin Parish containing by estimation three hundred & ninety six acres . . . & is bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING where the said Drummonds line crosses the (?) Main Road thence along the said line North ten degrees West two hundred & nine poles to a beech on the spring branch down the said branch as it meanders to the mouth at Hicks Creek up the said creek as it meanders to the mouth of Jorden Houses spring branch up the said branch as it meanders to the fork, up the said fork as it meanders to the said Houses [line] along the said line South sixteen degrees West forty eight poles to a black gum North eighty degrees West one hundred and ten poles crossing the said creek one hundred & twenty one poles to a [ ] oak stump in John Nicholson's line thence along his line South sixty three degrees West twenty two poles to a black jack thence South four degrees West one hundred and nine poles to a spanish oak thence South eighty six degrees East eighty eight poles to his corner turkey oak on the old road thence crossing along Mark Jackson's line the same course one hundred and sixty two poles crossing the main road one hundred and ninety nine poles to his corner pine thence along a new line North twenty seven degrees East seventeen poles to a small hicory [sic] on the main road down the said road one hundred and ninety seven poles to the Beginning . . . This Indenture made this 19th day of April 1794 between Joseph Mason & Elizabeth his wife of Brunswick County & State of Virginia of the one part & John Drummond of the said County & State of the aforesaid of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of seventy five pounds . . . have granted bargained & sold . . . unto the said John Drummond . . . one certain tract or parcel of land lying & being in the County of Brunswick and in Meherrin Parish containing by estimation seventy acres . . . and is bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at an oak standing by the road running South thirty degrees West nine chains to a black jack standing in a branch thence along the surpentine windings thereof to a shrub oak corner thence North forty degrees East twenty six chains to a corner pine to the said Masons line thence North eighty degrees West twenty eight chains along his line to a corner pine on the old road thence South sixty degrees West to the Beginning . . .
